@Caggie09 hope you face calms down soon.

Justilou1 · 03/09/2021 02:10

@Caggie09- you could be right on the cleansing oil, but it could be the combo. Generally an oil or balm needs a (gentle) surfactant to be completely removed. I’m not sure that a cleansing cream will do the job as you’re adding more occlusives on top. (Or using two first cleansers).

Caggie09 · 03/09/2021 07:28

@Justilou1 i did wonder if it was my second cleanse too. I say cream, it's the Oskia Rest day cleansing milk. It comes off with a flannel too. Finger's crossed, my skin isnt as bad atm, but if it does have a major flare up again, ill remove the cleansing milk and some other products i think it maybe. Im assuming its the cleansing oil, as its described as lighty exfoliating the skin too. Time will tell!

Ponks · 03/09/2021 07:49

Hope your face is feeling a bit better @Caggie09 . When I have a reaction I slap on some LRP Cicaplast Baume which has been pretty magical at soothing red patches.

clary · 03/09/2021 14:44

Sorry to hear about your skin @Caggie09, hope it's better soon.

Empties for me from the last 10 days:
Elemis milk bath - only ok (from GWP) still looking for HG bath product
Filorga face mask - liked this
REN tonic - we all have this, no? it's ok
urban Veda night cream - really liked this, from H&B last Dec I think? smooth, smelled good
Sweet chef beet mask - these are always good
Paula's choice niacinamide - I love this and want to RP but have too many night treatments to work through...really felt it improved my skin and this bottle lasted a long time

@Caggie09, I don’t think that it’s necisarnaly either product. What I suspect is that you haven’t understood what is required of a double cleanse. For first cleanse, you need an oil, balm or cream cleanser (something that does not foam or lather.). This one breaks up sunscreen and makeup. The next cleanse must involve surfactants to remove the residue from the first cleanse. (Foam, foaming gel, etc.) They do not have to be drying stripping, bit your face should feel clean and plump.

daisyjgrey · 03/09/2021 15:16

@Justilou1

Oooh I double cleanse and use an oil/balm as the first and then normally the Liz Earle cleanser or Cerave SA cleanser as 2nd. I've always read/been told that foaming is bad and to steer clear of foamy face wash/cleansers. Im not entirely sure why I seem to know this though 😂

Caggie09 · 03/09/2021 15:26

I usually use an oil/balm as my first cleanse to take off my makeup & spf, then usually go in with a hydrating cleanser.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 03/09/2021 16:34

I too recommend the Cicaplast for some skin tlc. It’s very thick but feels almost medicinal.

Justilou1 · 03/09/2021 23:57

@daisyjgrey - the Cerave SA is perfect though. It has mild surfactants in it and does foam a little bit. (I love it myself!)

Justilou1 · 05/09/2021 11:57

My turn for some empties!!! Another tube of Curel Makeup Cleansing Gel from the stash. I was keeping it for travel, but.. ha! I love it. I have another hiding in the cupboard. Curel Cleansing Foam. I love it even more than the gel. It lasts for aaaaaages and it leaves your face so soft! Two mini Nars Afterglow lip balms. One in Torrid and the other in Dolce Vita. Toros is a lovely, perfect, nudey peach that is so much nicer than Orgasm! (And so is it’s name!) It’s barely there, but it’s fabulous. Dolce Vita is the warmer, cooler, rosey version. Also fab. The texture of these is wonderful, the packaging is delightful. I used up Orgasm ages ago. It does mean that you are inclined to use them all the time and go through them quickly!!! I was given a full-sized Laguna (which is my favourite), and I will keep that for summer. Would I ever buy one? HELL NO!!! I am certain that you can get tinted drugstore lip balms that are almost as good, but with less gorgeous packaging. I also fiiiiinally used one of my millions of lanolips balms in rose. It’s pretty, and it has an spf, but I hate the gluggy formula. (Pity, because I think their new bronze one would be a close dupe for the Laguna.)

Experiment627 · 06/09/2021 12:42

I have some empties:

  • The Body Shop vitamin E overnight serum in oil: HG for me but cos I have been trying out so many other things it took me a while to use up. I think I need to stick to a less is more approach & not be so gung-ho about starting products as they do go off quite fast!
  • Boots Vitamin C brightening eye gel: pleasant enough but felt like I was applying some in a gel consistency. Did not notice a dramatic difference.
  • Boots Your good skin provitamin overnight cream: I did really like this but not as much as the M&S dream cream
  • Garnier Olia after colour care: I always accumulate the conditioners that come in hair dyes - I am gradually working through my stash! I only use conditioner every other wash or so - I am finding my hair a smidgen less oily these days... but as I have dry ends I don't feel like I can entirely suspend use.

Dammit, I did a huge declutter and had a load of empties at the weekend but I just binned them without taking a photo!
From what I can remember:
Elemis rose spray toner - decluttered as the spray mist came out in a line rather than a circular pattern. Annoying and needed to drench your face to get full coverage.
Urban decay all nighter - empty, have a backup but only use it occasionally.
Smash box liquid lipstick - decluttered due to drying out.
Charlotte tilbury magic foundation - empty. Would buy it again but have a few different ones on the go at the moment so happy to wait.
Allies of skin vitamin c - empty. My favourite, have already started on the next one.
Glow recipe watermelon toner - empty. Nice enough but have a drawer full of similar stuff so no need to replace with anymore!
Some weird dissolving detox tabs from CB advent calendar - decluttered. Tried one once and it was utterly foul.
Jo malone lime basil and mandarin perfume - empty. Already have a replacement.
Hourglass tubing mascara - empty. Or at least, dried up, I can’t tell Grin have approximately 25 open mascaras on rotation at the moment so steering well clear of any more.
Honest beauty primer - decluttered. Made absolutely everything ball up on top of it so that had to go.
Can’t remember what else but this is about half of what went.

Experiment627 · 06/09/2021 18:37

What a shame @TheChosenTwo but great progress!!!

Whoever mentioned the Cicaplast, thanks for the recc! Been working a treat. Slowky introducing my skincare back in now!

  • Dead sea bath salts, coconut and lime. Picked these up from Home Bargains on a whim. Under 2 quid. Got the matching bubble bath too. I liked pairing them up. The scent is super strong and made for a lovely bath. For under £2, ill buy these again.
  • Love Beauty Plant body gel. The coconut scent is too strong and a really artifical smellEnvy, not that hydrating for me. Always felt really sticky after use. Glad its out the stash! Moving onto REN kelp body cream.
  • IGK first class dry shampoo. Hate that this os my only HG dry shampoo. Too pricey for the amount i go through. But the best ive used!
  • Revolution plex 3 treatment. (Olaplex dupe) For how affordable this is, id say its a pretty good dupe! I use neither often. But, my hair looks better when i use this. Looks smoother, and less like a shaggy dog. I use over night to get best results. Have more in stash.
  • Mitchum. HG. These empties make me realise how quickly i get through this stuff!!

-Si perfumr armani. Not my favourite perfume, got a bigger bottle. I have over 50 bottles of perfume, this isnt i get drawn to that often!

  • Rose water & Glycerin mist. Think i prefer the plain rose water. It seemed a little sticky amd heavy on the skin. Cant say i noticed much more hydration with the added glycerin. The mist comes out nice and even, and doesnt seem to attack the face.

Thats all for this evening!

Experiment627 · 06/09/2021 21:24

@Caggie09 for the Revolution treatment - you say you use it overnight- do you wash hair, towel dry & chuck on?

OP posts:
ememem84 · 06/09/2021 21:30

Superdrug foamy soap and a kids bubble bath gone. Also used up a hand soap.

Caggie09 · 06/09/2021 22:13

@Experiment627 i dont shampoo my hair first, just wet it, towel dry and chuck on! Then just wash and condition as usual!

Experiment627 · 07/09/2021 05:30

Thanks @Caggie09! Do you cover your gair with something?

OP posts:
daisyjgrey · 07/09/2021 15:21

@Experiment627

I Olaplex mine overnight and I French plait it. It kind of dries/hardens a bit overnight so it's not greasy etc. Washes out fine in the morning.

Caggie09 · 07/09/2021 15:44

I put mine in a bun. Mine dries up too and feels a tad crisp. Lovely hair in the morn though!

Experiment627 · 07/09/2021 16:00

Great - thanks!

OP posts:
Ponks · 07/09/2021 18:35

I've been wondering about Olaplex as my hair needs a big conditioning boost. Thought it only worked when hair was wet though?

@Justilou1 I've already got the LaNeige lip balm on your recommendation (really like it btw) , now I want to try the Nars! Wish they would stop using naff names though

@Experiment627 we need a new thread!

daisyjgrey · 07/09/2021 18:57

@Ponks

Yes you put it on wet hair, depending on the number on the bottle/instructions. There's one that goes on dry hair though I think, its on my shelf but I haven't gotten around to using it yet!
