Ah... advent season commences again!!!! Last year I had "just" two...

@Ponks I have the same questions about essences as you do

About essences, I they are not all created equal. I fell for the SK-11 hype and was thoroughly disappointed in myself. (Load of expensive bollocks that did nothing for my skin at all. It costs $229 here in Aus.) I was given Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner ($16.95) as a GWP. I thought I’d give it a try. This one contains fermented black rice extracts and hyaluronic acid, and my skin loves it. It is plumping and I could quickly see a difference in brightness and texture. I mix in Niacinamide powder from The Ordinary PM and that kicks it up even further. I apply all over face, neck and chest, then my tretinoin on top in the evening and my moisturiser. In the morning I use a gentle exfoliating acid pad/wipe on neck and chest after cleansing (would be too much on face after tret.) and then essence, vitamin c serum, sunscreen. Considering adding a retinol for chest and neck area as turning 50 next year. *My GP friend who is also skincare obsessed told me to apply my tretinoin over the essence to improve it’s penetration. I have been doing this for about two months and have noticed that the lines in the cow’s feet area appear much less pronounced. I have also noticed that my actives cover a lot more surface area, so they will last a lot longer.
There are lots of other essences worth investigating. I’d check out James Welsh on YouTube for some good reviews, or Gothamista.

Clinique moisture surge (small travel size) finished. Liked it but have so many other things to use up.

Savlon cream. The dc keep falling over. Ffs.

Yes @Justilou1 you've made me want to try an essence again... I had thought that it would prevent actives applied afterwards from working effectively.

Finished: Gallinee face cream from Cult GWP, nice moisturiser but didn't like the demerara sugar smell.

Plus Soap & Glory Junk the Gunk deep cleansing shampoo. When I bought it I didn't realise it was full of exfoliating beads! Did work well though. Probably deep cleansing as you have to rinse so much to get the beads out.

Clarins one step facial cleanser - I really like this but it doesn’t do anything that the much cheaper micellar water does.

La Roche Posay B5 Hyalu serum - my first foray into grown up skin care. I like this and will RP, but will try some others in my stash first.

I can’t help but notice a few mentions of the beauty advent calendars appearing across the S&B board. I have never bought one, but after spending a year on this corner of mumsnet, I am very tempted.

@Ponks , I feel the same about the Gallinee moisturizer, it’s nice but the smell is really off putting.

I would love to host my fellow beauty addicts, but suspect we would be terribly enabling!!! (You’d also have to cope with three teenagers, a sports-mad DH and a hyper-anxious, constantly shedding, giant breed dog.) Meanwhile, definitely check out James Welsh on YouTube (he’s just so positive and gentle, you can’t help but adore him.) and see what he has to say about essences. He also refers to other YouTubers as well. (I just can’t cope with Hyram… he’s a bit too squealy and bouncy for me.)

@SlatternIsMyMiddleName I found a fantastic thread yesterday about the advents... I do not want to be an enabler however I will carry on getting advents whilst they bring me such JOY!
Yes they contribute to my stash but I also make lots of wonderful discoveries!

also gone today is a dove bar. i love this. and love how it's become a staple in my life. i started using it when i was on an eco kick, so as to try and reduce my plastic use. whether i have or not is another matter. but it's a small step

Gosh! I have not used Dove for ages! May need to give a go again!

Two empties:

• The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea scrub shampoo: adore how this smells - like Bulgari Green Tea range... however too greasy for my oily roots
• Nivea MicellAir black bottle: hmm 🤔 touted as 0% residue but I felt it left one. I used this mainly to remove eye makeup

I have two empties as well!!! A very cute sample of MAC In Extreme Dimension Mascara. Love the wand so much, I’m keeping that for sorting out clumpies. I won’t purchase because as fabulous as it is (super black, long, full lashes), I had gritty eyeballs by early afternoon. Bugger. The second empty was a pot of the much-adored Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in the Berry flavour. I adore this product and hope to never, ever, ever be without it. I will confess to having one in my bag and one in my car and one in the bathroom as well. The grapefruit is my favourite, but the berry has the slightest hint of pink. Gorgeous. If they stop producing this product, the fabric of the universe will unravel.

@Experiment627 i started buying this again after having seen it on special offer in boots. for some bizarre reason i feel cleaner using it than shower gel. and it saves plastic, etc - although i dont even want to think about the "eco-ness"of soap bar production. . . .

My gynae suggested Dove for menopausal dry skin on my body. Unfortunately only managed one use as it makes me sneeze like Snow White’s little friend. My DD2 loves it though. (I love the scent, but it doesn’t love me!)

Noble Isle Rhubarb Rhubarb shower gel - nice enough, but not so nice that I would buy, there are other brands I prefer.
Vilhelm perfumery Dear Polly - again I liked this, but not enough to repurchase- not as good as 'Scent of a Lady'.
Medik8 retinol 3TR - first time I've used retinol, got the 6TR now. I don't see an improvement in my wrinkles yet, but they're not getting worse.
Ouia body creme - really nice, would definitely get again.

I'm now trying to work out what to get for the upcoming GWPs.

Oooooh, are there some GWPs coming up? Asking for a friend……
