Have we seen the back of wearing heels?

This article hasn't told me anything I don't already know really, but I was never much of a heel wearer. To me heels are anything over 2" high, and I can't wait to kick them off as soon as I can.

Good riddance if that’s the case. I’m way ahead of the trend :)

Floisme · 14/02/2021 09:37

I've not worn heels in years and having no intention of ever wearing them again. I still think they'll come back into fashion, because it's a pendulum, because human beings have the collective memory of a mayfly, and because in a few years time a new generation will come along. I'm fine with that as long as I still have a choice and so far I always have.

Onedaysomedaynowadays · 14/02/2021 09:38

I live in London so walk a lot which meant I never really wore heels before covid!

Ginfordinner · 14/02/2021 09:40

I live rurally and walk a lot. I only ever wore heels (2" in my case) on rare nights out, and occasionally to work.

Heels will always be with us, but it is going to be rare that any of us wear them.

It’s a casualty of WFH and the end of office wear. Most of my heels were under the desk at work for putting on for meetings. Those meetings are happening by Teams now.

addicted2spaniels · 14/02/2021 09:44

I wore heels on my 50th last year.

And on my 21st.

I don't like to overdo things Grin

thebabessavedme · 14/02/2021 09:45

I cant wait for a reason to wear heels again, to me it means partys, going out, dressing up, weddings, fun, dancing, ohhhh bring it on! Grin

AdaFuckingShelby · 14/02/2021 09:45

I've put most of mine in the charity bag to be disposed of when we're allowed. Really can't be bothered to mince my way across a restaurant again wearing she's that I can't really walk in. Just for vanity. No thanks. I've kept some wedges and platform type thicker soles to give me some height so I don't have to take my trousers up at the hem. Grin

AuntieMarys · 14/02/2021 09:46

Haven't worn them for years. I'm tall and have no desire to bend down to listen to people

Reinventinganna · 14/02/2021 09:46

I’ve been wearing mine around the house. I’m not giving them up.

Mosaic123 · 14/02/2021 09:51

I love the way heels make your legs and clothes look better and me taller. Sadly they are too uncomfortable.

Ginfordinner · 14/02/2021 09:53

I'm with you on how they look @Mosaic123, but like you I just can't walk in them. Although, at 5'7" I don't need to look taller.

I haven't worn them for years. Dodgy knees and back stopped that. Also realised that my toes hurt in them. I've got one or two pairs left for very fancy events. There's no way I'd be wearing them to work!

thecognoscenti · 14/02/2021 09:54

I hope so - awful things. I got told off when I was junior in my career for not wearing them enough. I like how they make my (chubby and stumpy) legs look but those bastards hurt.

BallsToYouSue · 14/02/2021 09:58

I'm also tall and do not need them to look taller, but they definitely improve my posture a bit. That said, I wear them extremely rarely. Even in non covid times, I mainly go out in London and there is a lot of walking involved for me to get there, trains, changing stations, tube. If we ever go to a restaurant where one of us can drive, I might wear them again.

I also think it's a pendulum and they will come back. Years ago the thing was ballet flats and how bad they were for your feet, so a bit of a heel was better blah blah. Now it's flats only.

I never have been able to walk in the huge heels anyway, so I wouldn't notice if they were in or out, as they are and have always been Not For The Likes Of Me!

Bmidreams · 14/02/2021 10:05

I'm not a heels person but I do own a few pairs. I usually wear them on a night out and also take flats with me. However, doesn't anyone else feel like getting glammed up, wearing dresses and heels, etc, after just slobbing in pjs for months??? Wearing all your nice clothes again they wont fit

dottiedodah · 14/02/2021 10:13

Well I am 5 ft 0 ins and havent worn them for a long while due to ankle probs! Really doesnt bother me being short TBH .Went out for my "Big " birthday last summer ,wearing my flat ankle boots under a long pretty dress! My sons GF who is in her 20s and very pretty, wore trainers with her party frock too .Do you think heels were invented by a" misogynistic bastard" as portrayed by Robin Williams in Mrs Doubtfire?

FuckingHateRats · 14/02/2021 10:16

I sorted out my shoe and coat cupboard last week and threw out all but one pair of heels. Trusty black Clarks leather sandals which go with everything. I will never go back to wearing heels when out for drinks etc, and I don't wear them for work anyway. Trainers all the way.

lavenderlou · 14/02/2021 10:24

I wear the occasional chunky heel which is comfy, otherwise just flats. However, I think post-Covid there will be a resurgence in "dressy" clothes and heels might be part of that.

Pandemicjobhunting · 14/02/2021 10:27

Some outfits just need heels though.

Yes we’ve got loads of dresses now you can wear with trainers, even at night but if you’re going to a wedding or similar and have a posher dress on what shoes could you wear? Flats whether it’s sandals or ballets just never look right.

Floisme · 14/02/2021 10:37

The last wedding I went to, I wore pointy flats.

natalienewname · 14/02/2021 10:43

@Reinventinganna

I’ve been wearing mine around the house. I’m not giving them up.
Love this! I might start doing the same!

I like heals, and can and have walked distances in them when actually working in the office. However mine are never usually higher than 8cm

I won't give mine up, and am looking forward to having an occasion to wear them out again...drinks, restaurants, parties, dancing, theatre, ooh can't wait!!

MapleMay11 · 14/02/2021 10:49

I've never stopped wearing them and never will. They're essential for certain outfits and in some work/social situations.

LunaNorth · 14/02/2021 10:53

I only wear them lying down Wink

TheChampagneGalop · 14/02/2021 10:54

Very glad to see less of them in women's fashion.
Maybe they'll come back as footwear for male royals again.
