We used to have one of these and it was fab!

It was vaguely for size 18+, but I know a 5 foot size 16 is not the same as a 6 foot one, so don't think it needs to be strict.

Anyway, if anyone would like to join me they'd be v welcome.

FWIW, I'm a tall size 18, apple shape.

Still in my PJs Blush. Then going out for a walk / run (stating C25K again).

Thanks for the kind words ♥

@parisjetaime yours looks so cute with the white shirt. I would never have thought of putting a shirt under a dress, I'm more a long sleeve glittery thermal kind of girl, but the white in the shirt really makes the dress pop. I did go through an obsessive stage of buying boots first lockdown so there are a couple more pairs. I'd wanted these ones for years since someone wore them to my wedding.

@divebar2021 ill definitely be the crazy cat lady in the quirky clothes. 😁

I dyed my hair on Thursday so appreciate the hair comnents 😊 it's been so neglected.

Am I the only one whose let themselves go????

Loving seeing the 3 items challenge. Maybe ill brave it one day. I read every day, just don't post but I'm always here in the background.

Hotter boots have been on my radar for a while due to feet issues so curious to see

ParisJeTAime · 21/02/2021 18:40

Ah thanks, I was admiring your purple top under Hell Bunny dress too @Myshitisreal! Love your hair colour as well.

Yes, do join in the style challenge if and when you feel like it Smile!

Forgot to comment on others. Paris. I love the shirt except with the skirt. I love the skirt, but I feel it needs a plainer, slimmer fitting top, although you could then have the shirt as a jacket.
Myshitisreal. I love that you have so much going on, I can’t really see the details. Great boots!

ParisJeTAime · 21/02/2021 20:28

Thanks @Zebracat! I think the same about the skirt...think it will go well with a black top I have actually...but it's a little dressy for my day to day wear I think 🤔. Maybe one day we'll be allowed out again and then I can wear it.

Btw, no, I won't be clicking on your random link up there, since you've been spamming half the Style and Beauty Board this evening 🤪🙄.

OP posts:
Divebar2021 · 21/02/2021 21:14

Oh shame! I missed the spam.

@zebracat I was playing around with a long cream skirt yesterday too and paired it with a grey sweater and snakeprint boots. I think the increase in temperature and arrival of some daffodils is making me think about spring.

I had a good sort out and clean of my wardrobe yesterday and am happy with the way it looks but am not happy with every item in it. I’m definitely going to be considering each item and whether it deserves to be taking up space. I’ve noticed I’m short on tops but heavy on “going out” dresses... I must have over 10. Although I feel I might be taking every opportunity I have to dress up when the restrictions lift. Maybe I’ll show you some photos and get some opinions.

ParisJeTAime · 21/02/2021 21:24

Ah you didn't miss much Dive. It was along the lines of, "sorry, I know this is off topic, but could you click on this and tell me if it's legit?". Saw the same message on here and at least two other S&B threads this evening!

I am so ready for spring. Have I said that yet today?! I usually say it at least twice a week on here Blush. Love cream and warm grey together.

So I did a thing. When buying a birthday present for DH, inadvertently purchased some boots for me. Oops. But are they wonderful, or are they just odd?

ParisJeTAime · 21/02/2021 21:32

And yes, definitely happy for more pics to help you whittle down your collection. You could maybe try and get rid of half and keep the top 5? Even if we say we like the ones you don't like, it might help you decide you really don't like them iyswim. Or if getting rid of them altogether is too much, you could put half of them into storage and see if you miss them? Or keep them in your wardrobe, but at least you've had a good excuse to try them on and we get to see nice dresses Grin.

I think I only have one dress which would look weird on a normal weekday. It's my event dress!
Works for weddings, christenings, parties and probably would be fine at a funeral too. I have other dresses which would do for events as well, with the right styling. But that's my default option.

I'm a SAHM, so there really isn't much need for anything dressy usually. I have a few multitasking dresses, which do for daytime or going out, and would do for work, (if I still went to work).

I am very limited on space though, so needs must really!

OP posts:
ParisJeTAime · 21/02/2021 21:40

X post with Zebra, sorry.

Oh, I like those boots a lot Zebra! Would be lovely with skirts and dresses I think. Or even over leggings with a oversize jumper maybe?

OP posts:
Zebracat · 21/02/2021 21:56

Yes. I think they meet a need because I really hate tights, but love skirts and dresses, so could wear them all year round. And they are less than 50 quid in John Lewis -reduced to clear, but I am trying to only buy things that I really need, and I have other boots, but only ankle boots. Oh well, it’s done, and I will return if they aren’t comfortable, and most boots aren’t. I may have also bought a jacket...

Divebar2021 · 21/02/2021 23:51

I’m going to revive my Depop shop...I think I have the relevant motivation now although it’s not really the ideal platform for my clothes - I just find it easier than eBay.

@Zebracat Those boots remind me of some knee high lace up boots I had in the 90s. What are you thinking you might wear them with? And a cheeky jacket too? I’m thinking about an eBay jacket..... do I need it? No. Do I want it? Yes.

There was a new poster... sorry I can’t see your name now. Cheery wave 👋. Sorry about your JL order... how disappointing. Funny how I don’t really think of people reading this...( although I am obviously familiar with the concept of threads.). More the merrier as far as I’m concerned.

Myshitisreal · 22/02/2021 05:55

@zebracat this is a picture of the dress off a website. It's £22 on attitude clothing website ffs 🤯 it's called "even in death" and the little ties at the side mean you can cinch it in so it's super flattering. It's a shame they don't have more in this shape. I've in one other design, kind of colourful unicorns. Can we see the jacket? I love those boots 😍

@divebar2021 and all you're all so disciplined getting rid of things. I'm a bit of a clothes hoarder. Plus my size tends to vary a lot, so I have a range of sizes as it goes up and down from year to year. Am I the only one? I doubt any of my jeans will fit at the moment, well not comfortably anyway. 😵

I really love seeing everyone's different styles.

Love that @Myshitisreal! Goes with you Jack Skellington prints!

@Divebar2021, I've never actually used Depop! I used to buy and sell a lot on eBay, but it is an absolute faff! Don't really use it anymore.

Here I am in a surprisingly flattering (I think) tent-like dress from Cos. Going to wear with these black Snags and my not-goth boots Grin,

I am a size 20-22 at the moment (I was working back from 18 to 16 this time last year Blush ) and 5'4".

Most of this year, I have been wearing a pair of jeans (I used to favour skinny ones - now I can only get straight ones to fit me) or leggings, and a decent jumper (I mostly wear the M&S ribbed polo neck jumper in black/navy/red/turquoise/grey/brown) in winter, or top (generally LandsEnd plain round necked tops (in long or short sleeves depending on season) when warmer in a similar range of colours but less black and more white) for zoom calls. And my fluffy slippers.

Today, I have a grey v necked fitted cashmere jumper (that the moths have attacked, so I am making the best use of its last few wears) and a pair of navy skinny jeans, over hiking socks and slippers.

Every time I spend the money (usually sales) on a naice jumper, either DH washes it in a machine wash and shrinks it (I keep them out of the hamper to hand wash) or moths/carpet beetle larvae get at them and they get holes. So I think I am giving up on naice jumpers for a while until I totally purge the house....

BiddyPop · 22/02/2021 11:23

Sorry, I should clarify - I wear one colour tops - I just have the same ones in a range of different colours as I find the shape that works and replicate it in multiple colours, and change it up with scarves/necklaces/cardigans/jackets as necessary.

Maverick66 · 22/02/2021 11:24

Just been catching up on thread and you ladies are one stylish bunch.
So envious of how you put your looks together.
I'm 54 but have been 'middle' aged forever Blush.
My weight always held me back and I have always felt so frumpy but you ladies are an inspiration!

alphaechokiwi · 22/02/2021 11:24

Hi everyone, I'm a long time lurker and huge admirer of all your style. I've lost weight in the last 6 months, I've still got a lot to lose but want to embrace your 'look and feel good at any size' ethos. I am trying to shift from a wear what you can fit into mindset but I just don't know what suits me... I'm hoping you can help me! I'm 5'4", 49 and currently a size 16 -18. I'd like to work through my current wardrobe before buying anything new. I'd love your expert opinion....
Here's 3 recent looks I've tried out - all of these clothes have been in my wardrobe for several years but never worn apart from the tops / cardigans.

  1. Brown cardigan XL - John Lewis, black jeggings 16 M&S, t-shirt L whistles
  2. Wine jumpsuit - whistles 16, Breton top Benetton via eBay
  3. Lucy & Yak umi dungarees XL, Benetton breton eBay.

Welcome @alphaechokiwi and @BiddyPop Smile! Love the pics alpha, especially the Lucy and Yak dungarees 😍. I have dungaree envy. I can't really wear them though, or I haven't found any which look nice on me yet...

Biddy, I feel your pain re naice jumpers! I have ruined one of mine recently. It was quite new as well Hmm. Oh well. They are a bit temperamental aren't they? Hope we won't need them TOO much longer.

Ah thanks @Maverick66! I know what you mean. I dressed a lot older than my years as a teenager tbh. No other choice as I was big and teen shops didn't really cater for me. I shopped in BHS Blush.

I'm so happy there is so much more available for bigger sizes now, but I appreciate there are many places which don't cater for 18-20+. I think that is slowly changing though.

@BiddyPop

Hello. I hear you about the weight gain during lockdown.... I went to the upper reaches of an 18 and am now nosing back down towards a 16 although it’s very much a work in progress.
The cashmere can be saved if you don’t have too many holes. There’s a bonding powder ( I think it’s a powder) that you can buy that you mix with cashmere shavings ( from the inside seams) and you iron over the hole and it bonds and fills it. The other option is a felting kit. I own one of these but haven’t used it yet.... I’ll give it a whirl and see how I get on. You probably need to stick the sweater in the freezer for a couple of days to ensure any larvae are killer. You tube has tutorials.
I have cashmere going back 15 years.. I love it.

@Myshitisreal
I used to be a real shopper and I’m trying not to be.... I have a whole separate wardrobe in the spare room and storage boxes full of my “ thin” clothes... some of those things date back 25 years. Am I ever going to wear Karen Millen ever again? Blush My mum who is a pro shopper also gives me stuff relentlessly.... I mean she wants to post me 5 pairs of trousers. I don’t want 5 pairs of M&S trousers I want 1 perfect pair of Margaret Howell trousers ( ok maybe I want 2 pairs of perfect trousers). So I’m getting rid. Stand by for a listing of 5 pairs of trousers in my shop 😂

@Maverick66. I think you need to do you. I’ve regressed slightly from my Karen Millen wearing 20’s. I have a very cool trendy friend who wears loads of oversized items and I’m very influenced by her. I really don’t want to be... I want to do me. Not everything is to my taste and I don’t expect to wear stuff that everyone likes but you are on this thread so I guess you’re interested in style & fashion. Don’t write yourself off! ( I’m 50 by the way )

@alphaechokiwi. Those Lucy & Yak dungarees are great... I’m trying to get into “ shopping my wardrobe”. I don’t do dungarees but I do boiler suits. I’d like to see the wine coloured jumpsuit with some different shoes... it might look shit but ankle boots might work too as well as the trainers.

It would be nice to see everyone for Style Challenge Saturday!!!!

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 22/02/2021 13:52

Hello BiddyPop - I hear you on the fancy jumpers - I need machine washable, due to my work (support work, long varied shifts, own clothes, staying clean not guaranteed) and family of five I just cba with hand washing anything and everything needs to be fairly easy to care for.
Hello Maverick - this thread is great for inspiration. I'm more jeyns and a nice top or just a t shirt or jumper myself but I'm trying to branch out a little as far as is practical for my lifestyle (nothing to do with covid restrictions really, but location, life stage and work).

Hi from the other thread alphaechokiwi - wow ypu look great! You've got me wondering whether I could wear dungarees, I had some dungaree shorts I loved 25 years ago GrinBlush but I think a 45 year old in dungarees might be a bit out there for very rural Bavaria... Adult women don't even wear leggings or joggers in public here unless actually going jogging... Hmm...

StCharlotte · 22/02/2021 14:10

It would be nice to see everyone for Style Challenge Saturday!!!!

I'm definitely planning it this week.

Myshitisreal · 22/02/2021 14:20

@maverick66 hi and welcome.you'll see plenty of different styles here 😁

@divebar2021 my mum is a pro shopper too 👀 it's bloody awful. I've been asking her for years to do buying me things she can't afford. But she doesn't listen bless her. I guess it's her love language. Margaret howell trousers look lovely, especially the palazzo pants. I find it difficult to get trousers to fit me right. I need a loose waist band. I bought my rose boots off depop. It's a weird enticing place, especially for dm boots. I've stopped looking at it now 😂

@untilyournexthairbrainedscheme, personally, I would wear the dungarees if you're happy and comfortable in them. Why not 🤷‍♂️

@alphaechokiwi those dungarees are so flattering on you. The skirt also but the dungarees especially ♥

@parisjetaime I love your non goth goth boots 😉

Im out again. Busy social life has me at the doctors. Charity shop marks skinny jeans size 16, charity shop shirt also marks think it's size 20. T shirt cupcake cult. Boots calvin Klein (ie tk maxx purchase, the most comfortable boots I've ever owned)
Also wearing long sleeve black top from h and m which covers my butt 😂

Im stunned my jeans fit 🤯. Husband loves me in Jeans so was delighted to see.
