We used to have one of these and it was fab!

It was vaguely for size 18+, but I know a 5 foot size 16 is not the same as a 6 foot one, so don't think it needs to be strict.

Anyway, if anyone would like to join me they'd be v welcome.

FWIW, I'm a tall size 18, apple shape.

Still in my PJs Blush. Then going out for a walk / run (stating C25K again).

This is true re style challenge divebar! Will have to get creative... I really want that style app for my phone, but I have an Android (booo)! I did try using one for androids but it wasn't as slick. Or maybe it was pilot error. I use a spreadsheet on excel 🤓.

Is the Saturday Style Challenge going to be one garment three ways again?

What I need is for my best friend (who I haven't seen since August) to be sitting on my bed chatting as I chuck... that will be a very fine day when it happens.

ParisJeTAime · 18/02/2021 09:35

God, I know @StCharlotte Sad. When will that sort of lovely, casual afternoon spent going through our wardrobe with our best friends happen again?

Although, my best friend is a man, so probably never, but I'm sure I could find A female friend to go through it with me in non covid times.

Last week the challenge was one garment, three ways. I'm happy to stick to that if everyone else is? It obviously isn't compulsory either if anyone wants to comment but doesn't feel like participating. I enjoyed it, as it did make me look at my wardrobe and try new things.

I'm doing a workout now and then will get dressed. Think I'll wear my new green dress, just because Grin.

DD went though my wardrobe with me - she's only 15 but knows far more about clothes than me (she has a capsule wardrobe and a clothes allowance) but she doesn't take the fact I'm 30 years older than her into much account when trying to give me fashion advice Grin

My Levi 501s have arrived and I think they suit my shape actually, I'm pretty happy. Also glad I managed to order the right size! Top is Fatface.

Like your jeans, Hare. You are lucky to have a Dd who takes an interest. I think she probably has a very good awareness of the differences in suitability for age, but also sees what you can’t, yet, which is that you are seriously gorgeous.I say this because I have spent years being ashamed of myself and at best hoping clothes will fit and not draw attention to me.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 18/02/2021 15:56

Oh Zebracat thank you Blush

I have rather lovely children, and the two teens are still very sweet and not stereotypical teens, although I must say i used to teach secondary school a million years ago when we still lived in the UK, and found teenagers are actually mostly nice people, unlike the unique subspecies drawn to secondary school senior managent ShockGrin...

Zebracat · 18/02/2021 17:19

I think the obnoxiousness of teens can be overstated. I live with a truly delightful 17 year old. Returning 20 somethings on the other hand...

Zebracat · 18/02/2021 17:22

My 17 year old does think I’m ancient however. She’d dress me out of the M&S classic collection, and that’s how she likes us.

Divebar2021 · 18/02/2021 20:51

My DD is only 8 ( nearly 9) .... although I’m an ancient 50 years old. She doesn’t yet mind my clothes or think I’m embarrassing. She doesn’t know but I have saved anything that would remotely be cool in 10 years. Band T shirts, a Che Guevara T shirt from NYC, a studded jacket, designer anything that I’ve had including a T shirt from the last Alexander McQueen collection ( that McQueen did himself before he died ). A pair of immaculate Vivienne Westwood bondage boots which I hope I might actually wear myself a bit more. I hope she doesn’t turn her nose up at it..... that would be just my luck.

cindylouwhosplaits · 18/02/2021 22:27

Hi! Please can I join in? I've recently lost a lot of weight (almost 11 stone) and am enjoying being able to buy a wider selection of clothes. Am still losing weight so am trying to spend as little as possible on clothes that may not last too long! Currently in size 18/20.

Today's outfit is a teal cord pinafore & black turtleneck jumper from Sainsbury's with black tights and heeled boots from Next. Felt really good today as normally in leggings/tunic for work.

ParisJeTAime · 18/02/2021 22:31

Of course! Welcome @cindylouwhosplaits Smile.

I love that whole outfit! You look great!

@Divebar2021, that's such a nice idea! I'm sure she won't turn her nose up at it. And if she does, you can wear them yourself Grin.

@Zebracat, that's so funny! I think anyone 25+ seems ancient when you're 17!

@ParisJeTAime I LOVE the spotty one ...sorry not fussed on other two .I think spotty style is most flattering on you.

Maverick66 · 18/02/2021 22:43

@cindylouwhosplaits WOW! Well done!
Love your outfit!

Divebar2021 · 18/02/2021 23:03

@cindylouwhosplaits

11 stone ? Wow here I am feeling like the cats meow because I’ve lost half a stone. 😉.

cindylouwhosplaits · 18/02/2021 23:09

Thank you. It's been a year since I had bariatric surgery so a bit of a cheat really! Slowed down a lot now but to be fair, I'll be happy just losing a few pounds a month from now on. Summer will be interesting trying to hide the tops of my arms as they do have loose skin- so I'll be here for the ideas!

Zebracat · 18/02/2021 23:49

Hello @cindylouwhosplaits. 11 stone is amazing. And you look wonderful. Like Divebar, I’m pretty chuffed at my half stone. Divebar, if your Dd doesnt want your clothes, you can sell them. My guess is that she will be proper pleased.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 19/02/2021 07:43

cindylouwhosplaits welcome to the thread and massive well done on the 11 stone, wow! That outfit really suits you.

Divebar2021 I'm jealous that you have such cool stuff saved. My DD has a leather jacket of mine from 20 years ago, which she did wear in Autumn last year, but she already has a bigger shoe size than me (plus long, slim feet instead of my very wide ones) so couldn't wear the couple of pairs of nice shoes I still had from my younger days anyway. She actually has a couple of DH's old band type T shirts, they're not something I ever really owned.

Divebar2021 · 19/02/2021 07:52

My DM is very glamourous ( still is in her 70’s) and I can remember wearing a suede jacket of hers as a teenager and loving that. That jacket would be from the 70s. I currently have a short fake fur jacket of hers ( vintage St Michaels) and a vintage fake fur I bought as a student 30 years ago which I’m saving for DD. There’s also stuff I bought from places like Portobello road. It’s just some fun stuff but maybe she won’t think I’m quite such a fuddy duddy.

Divebar2021 · 19/02/2021 07:58

Oh and I hate summer clothes if I’m honest. I much prefer winter dressing with boots and coats... and arms are my bloody nemesis too. I hope the gyms re-open and I can get back to some weights before summer. I can remember being 17 and a guy telling me I had meaty arms (and I was pretty slim back then.) Funny how those comments stick with you over the years.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 19/02/2021 08:12

Divebar2021 your arm comment reminded me of a similar comment - when I was 22 I lived in Japan and taught English at a couple of secondary school - at the least academic school few of the students spoke/ had the courage to speak much English, but one comparitively speaking enormous adult sized man-boy (probably close to my age at the time having repeated a few classes) stood up when I walked in to his class the first time and shouted "Sensei Good-Arms!" BlushShock I was a size 12 and my armscwere firm and toned just due to being young, but I certainly had enormous, meaty arms compared to japanese high school girls and even all the female teachers! After that a lot of the older boys called me Sensei Good-Arms outside the classroom - I was never sure whether it was an insult so decided to ignore...

Mind you a 4ft 9 or so, tiny maybe 45 kg, fairly elderly male teacher at that school once apologised in a very gracious tone, saying he was very sorry not to be able to offer me a lift home - it was on his way and he had no other passenger, but he didn't think I'd fit in his car! Shock He had a perfectly ordinary small Nissan...

ParisJeTAime · 19/02/2021 09:36

Omg that car comment is wild @UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme! I did my Gap ya in Peru and people used to stop in the street to point me out to their children 😂. "Mira, mira la gringa"! I also got stopped for a photograph by some Japanese tourists on my graduation day in England. Big, tall, blonde verging on ginger person. I was quite the strange sight to them! Like a zoo animal 🤣.

Ah @Maverick66, you're cutting me deep (joking). I've sent spotty back. I wore green yesterday and I'm thinking some more about red. I may ask them for another returns label so I can send it back too. The deciding factor is that it's 100% polyester, which I don't like. Spotty just wasn't for me. I have had dresses that shape before and I never wear them! Just don't feel right. FWIW, dd (6😂) and DH (we have already established; not into fashion) liked the green one on me best. So maybe they look different in person... or else we as a family all have terrible taste 🤣.

Also, reporting back on the not-goth boots; I wore them out yesterday. Walked into town, went round the shops and back again, carrying heavy bags and they did not rub at all! Even my beloved Seasalt knee boots rubbed to begin with, so I'm delighted. Glad I kept them.

@cindylouwhosplaits, sorry, I was too busy looking at your lovely outfit and general gorgeousness to realise what you'd said about that weight loss! Good Lord, that is amazing. Huge well done to you! Bariatric surgery does not sound easy, so I don't think it's a cheat at all!

StCharlotte · 19/02/2021 09:46

Huge congratulations @cindylouwhosplaits! And that outfit looks fabulous. Wonderful to see you're dressing with confidence and rightly so.

StCharlotte · 19/02/2021 10:02

There was a lighthearted feature on the radio this morning about what you've let go during lockdown. Lots of comments about no bras for a year etc. One chap said he was having his first jab and was just as excited about the fact that it meant he could wear some smart trousers!

It's the same here. I'm not shielding but I am WFH. I have my first dose today and I'm wearing the new cowl necked dress because of course I need its short sleeves! And it will be the first time in months anyone apart from DH has seen me Not. In. A. Coat. I've even painted my nails. Honestly, it feels like a date!

ParisJeTAime · 19/02/2021 10:12

Aw I know @StCharlotte, I remember when I'd been off for a while with dcs and getting 'dressed up' for the doctors. This is the same only more so, as I don't even have toddler groups to dress up for! Ah well.

I colour coordinated my wardrobe last night 🤓. So I am primed and ready for spring, when people might actually see what I'm wearing instead of now, when I'm always in big boots and a big coat. Could be wearing my nightie underneath for all people know! And also, please God, when we can go out again. I am getting on the first train to london the minute it's ok. Might take dd and mooch round the V&A then land on my poor childless friend (dd's godfather) and go out for lunch. All a fantasy at the moment of course 😭
