Princessing goals for 2021?

FuckOffDailyFailure · 27/12/2020 11:31

What is everyone working on for 2021? Obviously, events might not be happening, so I don't have anything to aim for.

However, I'm planning a self-care / hygge style makeover for myself.

I want to:

  • Eat healthily and maybe shed a few lbs!
  • Drink more water and less Wine
  • Tone up my arms, so I can wear tshirts and sleeveless dresses in the summer
  • clear out my wardrobe and pack things into storage. Things I am unlikely to need, like my work suit Xmas Sad and going out things
  • more reading / studying (I am a pt student) and less screen time! Need to go to all my online tutorials next term Xmas Blush. Keep forgetting as they always happen at kids' bedtime

@PumpkinWitch - look at Justine Leconte on YouTube for help with creating a capsule wardrobe, I think she's done at least one video specifically about it. And there are others about how to figure out your ideal colour range (i.e. if you're cool or warm toned), whether you're pear or apple shaped & what styles suit those body types, etc.

For haircare you could do worse than look either at the big haircare thread on S&B, or at the Long Hair Community forums (which are primarily US based so most of the product recommendations aren't available here) but a lot of the info & techniques still applies. TBH the worst thing for split ends is using heat. I never use heat, & never have splits. Same for my DD - her hair was knee length until recently & in good condition right to the end.

Seaair2 · 18/01/2021 19:50

Lovely thread! I have so many ideas/ things I want to do I just don’t know where to start!

PumpkinWitch · 19/01/2021 09:30

LegoCaltrops that is brilliant advice. I will check out those videos. A lot of things that look good on other people don’t suit me because I have short legs and massive boobs. A lot of capsule wardrobe stuff says things like you need a skirt. I look awful in skirts. So I do need something on how to dress for my shape.

I can’t find the big care care thread. I have had a look at the long hair community and there is some good advice there. 😍

RubyGoat · 19/01/2021 09:44

@PumpkinWitch - oops sorry, my mistake, the haircare thread is specifically in relation to the Curly Girl/no shampoo method of haircare. I'm sure there is lots of hair advice buried in the skincare threads though but they are many & long! Am growing my hair again - it's taking so long, I'm sure it used to grow a lot faster when I was younger!

RubyGoat · 19/01/2021 09:52

@Carriemac - I only ever tried dyeing my lashes or brows a couple of times. Mainly because I'm lazy! Grin My only useful advice would be, get some disposable mascara type applicator brushes, to use as well as the little paint brush thing they send with the kit. Especially for the lashes, the paint brush isn't adequate & you'll mostly just poke yourself in the eyes, very painful.

I’ve been following you guys for a while, I was reluctant to join in. Last lockdown I was in full PPE for 6 months, I aged 20 years in 6 months, my face is awful.
Since the new wave started, December, I’ve been comfort eating something dreadful, last time I ran was Christmas Day. Went into full self preservation mode.
It’s not good.
So last week I ordered a few woolly dresses from Massimo Dutti, I’ve been going to work in trakkies, no one cares...but me! So now I make an effort. I shower at work a couple of times a day anyway, my skin is so dry, so I now have a tub of body cream in my locker.
Last time I didn’t bother with make up, this time I’m using a tanning moisturiser, waterproof mascara and I am actually wearing body spray.
I’m trying to look after myself.

My hair is cut in a bob, but I look like I’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards. No point in blow drying it in the week, I wash it before I leave work, put a woolly hat on and come home. But I could make a hair mask for it at home. Any recommendations? It’s not dyed, I don’t need that yet. I quite like the idea of a hair band that matches the face mask, anthropology had some on sales in Liberty prints.

I tackled my nails last weekend, I trim my cuticles, I buffed the nail bed till it shone. My hands are awful though, dry and aged. Note to self, dig out the cotton gloves, put moisturiser on before bed and then the gloves.

Cracked heels. Sign I’m getting old, they are so bad. Should spend some time looking after them. And do my pedicure, I haven’t done it in a year!!!

I managed by some miracle to buy some barbells, I can do weights at home. But what I need to start doing more of is stretching.

That’s about it.

Carriemac · 20/01/2021 08:34

Dyed my eyebrows yesterday and they look so much better . My hairdresser is mixing up some root colour and
I'm
Picking it up from outside her door ( she's on my route to work) so my DD is going to attempt to do my roots

BuddhaAtSea · 21/01/2021 07:32

I woke up and did a meditation, then half an hour of yoga (with Adrienne, of course), I walked the dog, had a coffee and a glass of water.
The plan today is to do some exercises from of my self compassion book.
Today is the day I tackle my feet. Pedicure and really moisturise. I got the nail varnish ready too :)
@Carriemac how did your root dyeing go? My DD has dark hair. Along with every teenager in this country, she did a ‘half and half’, the other half is now...blond!!! The roots are coming through and she’s struggling to keep them blond. 😂😂😂

RubyGoat · 21/01/2021 07:56

@BuddhaAtSea - re your heels, do the same for them as you do for your hands, if you can. Put foot cream on them, quite thickly, then put cotton socks on over the top. I usually do this a couple of times a week for a few weeks & it totally transforms them. Also, quick few seconds with a pumice in the shower you I have time, just before you turn off the water when your feet are softest.

Carriemac · 21/01/2021 09:38

The root dyeing went really well, my DD did it, said it was easy and although I was really nervous the hairdresser’s Mixture was npmuch better than a box dye. I’m going to trim DDs long hair today, just a couple of centimetres with a hairdressing scissors .
DH has a big birthday coming up and I’ve ordered a restaurant meal at home and as we will be taking photos/ zooming families I’m going to dress up and try to look good . The whole 30 diet is going ok, can’t weigh for 30 days which is a struggle for me

Tehmina23 · 21/01/2021 21:50

I've managed to stick to my calorie counting since Monday, finally!

Basically I weighed myself Sunday & got a shock - I'm 13 stone.. so that was the push I needed to start dieting properly.
I still feel the urge to binge but I know that probably won't go away for a very long time!

I bought a new dress from River Island which is a 12 and is a little snug so I'll wear a cardi with it until it's less snug!

BuddhaAtSea · 23/01/2021 07:13

That reminds me @Tehmina23 to use my fitness app to log in my food!
Day 3 of yoga, boy I’m stiff!!!

PumpkinWitch · 23/01/2021 08:24

I think I have the wrong type of hair for the curly girl/no shampoo method. I considered cutting it myself but that would probably be a disaster.

I like the idea of giving myself a pedicure. It is something I have never done. In yoga with Adriene she gets you massaging your hands and that is nice.

I am eating better, planning my meals and I haven’t been eating chocolate. I am going to take DS out for a big long walk.

The next thing I need to sort is clothes. I can’t find anything that I like.

My boyfriend is doing his own manly version of princessing he has been going for 10k runs.

Tehmina23 · 23/01/2021 11:12

Oh dear had a binge last night as felt miserable due to having anxiety at work (nhs now got Covid patients to look after plus many need all care & feeding too).

So probably had 2600 calories yesterday!!
Now got 4 days off so will stick to 1500 each day plus do exercise.

Trying to clean teeth twice a day & put night cream on too. Also failed at that last night.

Cookie79 · 23/01/2021 11:25

I’ve fallen firmly off the princessing waggon but hopping back on. The past few weeks have been busy - school stresses, put house on market, accepted offer, offering on one we want and I’ve accepted a job in the area we want to move to. Significant rise and more prospects, not 3 jobs smushed into one and not enough hours in the day. Closer to the seaside too. Work has also been crazy busy (Local Gov) and I’ve neglected myself a bit as I’m just exhausted when I get home.

But now I have a goal to start my new job (be a while yet as I can’t hand my notice in until I have the offer in my hands - references, DBS etc) looking happier, healthier and more princessified!

Going to restart looking after myself with a brisk walk in the snow and then a decadent afternoon soak in the bath, nails, face mask etc.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/01/2021 12:56

I bought a soup maker from jl, it’s a great way of getting vegetables into your diet, you can use frozen veg in it. I’m using organic chicken stock cubes for convenience.

Label everything you freeze though, I’ve just sat down to what I thought was Tuscan bean soup & it was homemade Jalfrezi curry sauce.

It was nice but not what I had been looking forward to all morning.

If anyone wants nice nails/cuticles use cnd solar oil, it’s a manicure in a bottle.

Eesha · 23/01/2021 17:49

@BuddhaAtSea i bought one of those magnitone pedicure things, like a foot shaver, for 20 pounds on eBay. It's given my feet a new lease of life. No way as good as those micropedi electric ones but still does the job.

ilikebooksandplants · 23/01/2021 19:48

I’ve kind of given up already because I feel so down during this lockdown but I have started wearing make up every day and I’ve been doing a proper skincare routine with spendy products every day and that’s quite nice. I am barely moving though because I just can’t be bothered.

My hair is also a disaster. Roots to my ears. Motivate me, people?!

LBB2020 · 23/01/2021 20:42

I’m feeling really demotivated the past week too! I’ve eaten so badly but I have been out for a walk most days and even did a YouTube exercise video the other evening!
Back on the healthy eating from Monday and hoping I haven’t put back on the 2lb I had lost! x

BuddhaAtSea · 23/01/2021 21:58

@Tehmina23 I found I was doing the same at work. So I’ve been making myself drink a 750cl bottle of water before I eat any of the biscuits and chocolate in the staff room. Gets you full pretty quick. Then you need to pee, so you don’t drink but you don’t eat crap either, cause those ain’t the rules 😂😂.
@Fluffycloudland77 oh, I have nasty surprises like these sometimes. I was looking forward to some macaroni cheese and defrosted is was plain rice with some leftovers from tins, like sweet corn and stuff. Thanks for the cuticle oil recommendation!!
@Eesha, thank you, that might be just what I need!
@ilikebooksandplants I do the same, Coco Chanel and fresh pyjamas 😂
@LBB2020 what YouTube exercise?

I made my other half run me a bath, otherwise I would have just collapsed.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/01/2021 22:18

One day we’ll learn to label. Obviously the time I made a pizza with pastry and didn’t realise till dh tentatively mentioned the pizza tasted like pies wasn’t sufficient 🤨.

LBB2020 · 23/01/2021 22:27

@BuddhaAtSea it was a postnatal arms and back workout. It was only about 20 minutes long but it made me feel better doing it!

BuddhaAtSea · 26/01/2021 07:26

@LBB2020 that sounds great!
I had a proper look last night. I actually have cracked heels. Never ever in my life have I had that. I went to bed after putting cream on and fresh socks.
I’m about to do a yoga session.

LBB2020 · 26/01/2021 09:11

@BuddhaAtSea I’m trying to do a couple of short workout videos a week along with walking and daily MUTU system.
I’m trying to remember to use body lotion and foot cream every night after I shower as my skin is so dry, I think it must be from being at home so much with the central heating on. Enjoy your yoga Smile I’m getting DC ready to get out for our daily walk
