Princessing goals for 2021?

FuckOffDailyFailure · 27/12/2020 11:31

What is everyone working on for 2021? Obviously, events might not be happening, so I don't have anything to aim for.

However, I'm planning a self-care / hygge style makeover for myself.

I want to:

  • Eat healthily and maybe shed a few lbs!
  • Drink more water and less Wine
  • Tone up my arms, so I can wear tshirts and sleeveless dresses in the summer
  • clear out my wardrobe and pack things into storage. Things I am unlikely to need, like my work suit Xmas Sad and going out things
  • more reading / studying (I am a pt student) and less screen time! Need to go to all my online tutorials next term Xmas Blush. Keep forgetting as they always happen at kids' bedtime

Ooh I've been waiting for this thread thank you OP.

I'm comfortable with my style and have a good idea what suits me and what doesn't. I'm an hourglass and fortunately put on weight proportionately, so my shape stays the same just gets larger or smaller. However I'm now the heaviest I've ever been and come to the realisation that it's my weight that makes me look old and frumpy as opposed to my actual clothes, hairstyle, make up etc so my goals are going to be primarily weight loss based.

  • Lose 3.5 stone and get to healthy BMI (aim to do this with a combination of low carb and intermittent fasting).
  • Drink 3L of water a day.
  • Complete an extended fast (aiming for around 60 hours) once a month.
  • Floss every day.
  • Run once a week and do 3 x home HIIT workouts a week.
  • Start facial exercise routine as face is starting to look saggy and jowly. Although this may be the weight? But not sure if the anticipated weight loss will help this or make this worse so either way exercises will hopefully help.
  • Up skincare regime with targeted anti-aging products.

After the shitshow of 2020 I am feeling v optimistic about 2021 and I'm determined to seize every opportunity including taking control of my health.

I love yoga. I used to practice at a beautiful studio a few times a week. Sadly closed now!

I don't like Yoga with Adriene. She is lovely and so many people love yoga because of her videos, but, I find that I need to be given an instruction with yoga. Maybe because when I first started yoga, I did Ashtanga, at a studio which was quite prescriptive with asanas. You must do blah blah and blah. Most people hate that at yoga and love "find what feels good", but I'm the other way entirely. Obviously, you should never do something which feels bad, but I do like to do my asanas 'properly' and for me, that means I need clear and concise instructions.

I use an app called DownDog and I prefer this to the youtube videos. It's free at the moment I think.

@chipsandpeas please could you post a couple of links to the Youtube zumba? I've never found any i like...

Great thread. I am:

  • building running/cycling into my week. First thing in the morning before an excuse presents itself
  • I've been doing pretty well with skincare routine so I'll keep that up
  • more water, less wine. I've been drinking so many hot drinks this year (home working). in December i switched most of them out for hot water. Reducing the wine is the next step in the quest for decent hydration.
  • making more of an effort to wear my nice clothes. Have revived my wardrobe app...
WindFlower92 · 28/12/2020 13:40

Sort my wardrobe out! I'm due at the end of May so will mainly be in maternity wear so I've got a good chance to throw old things away and start fresh.

Look at my diet. DH is looking to go keto in the new year, so even though I won't joining him completely, I would like to take the healthier elements of it into at least my dinners with him.

Get back into taking care of myself. Skincare, good clothes and makeup when I go out and maybe exercise when my body is up to it.

PusheenLove · 28/12/2020 13:53

I your view, what are the benefits of yoga?

(Question to anyone who cares to answer)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/12/2020 14:00

@PusheenLove for me, yoga started as a way of supporting my running (it made me stretch) but quickly became a really nice way to relax and just tune in to myself and tune out the noise of life. I really got into it during lockdown 1. Plus it has contributed to an overall sense of wanting to better nourish myself physically and emotionally. It lengthens muscles and tones you up as well.

PusheenLove · 28/12/2020 14:27

Sounds good.

Is the toning better than weight lifting? I'm looking for vanity-related benefits Grin

FuckOffDailyFailure · 28/12/2020 15:03

I definitely look and feel better, the more yoga I do!

I have a weakness for threads like this, I just love them!

Loose 10 pounds, already lost 9 want to shift some more- that doesn’t sound like a big goal but I’m 5ft and 9 stone 1 so it’s hard weight to shift as I’m at the end.

Have a proper skin care regime- got lots of goodies for Xmas

Eat better- that’s hard for me and I always fail as I don’t know how to prepare and cook good food.

Do nails more often - done them last night and need to keep it up as I feel better about myself.

I’ve already started my New Years resolutions as you can tell- no time like the present.

Exercise- I need to work on this one.

cookiemonster5 · 28/12/2020 15:13

I want to get back to how I used to be. I'm very overweight. I'm a size 18 which doesn't sound too too bad but at 5ft 2 I look massive.

I used to always have my hair and make up done but over the last couple of years as the weight has crept on and my mental health had decreased I've barely ever even dried my hair let alone worn make up. I've done my make up a total of 4 times in 2020 including Xmas day. I'm making a conscious effort to do my hair if not my make up.

I'm going to get running again. I joined a running club last year and loved it but kids and illness made me fall behind. I'm signing up again as soon as I can and making sure I go twice a week.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/12/2020 15:15

Had a wardrobe cull

I was sorting out underwear and scarves then moved onto my wardrobe .
But it has shown a few gaps in things I need ( like "Oh I really like this top but I need a green cardigan with it , not the black ones I already have" sort of thing )

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/12/2020 15:35

@PusheenLove I think it's a different kind of muscle tone. I don't do Weight lifting but I do a lot of cardio (running) and a lot of bootcamp/circuits type body weight exercise. But I find yoga really lengthens the muscle and arms/shoulders particularly look toned and have a nice shape.

northernstars · 28/12/2020 15:41

I love these threads too!
For me get back into running and ab work. Had a lot dental work since October and everything went to pot from then. Snacks only on a weekend. Wearing perfume everyday rather than for going out. Ditto with clothes and jewellery. Teeth whitening strips every day. Hair and face masks - have a ton that I have never used.
2 habits I stuck with from last new year are keeping my nails nice (bought the uv lamp in first lockdown) and reading books in bed rather than taking the iPad to bed. If I can get another 2 good habits to stick this year I'll be happy.

EssexLioness · 28/12/2020 15:42

Thanks for starting this post OP! I have had a lot of stress since lately and struggled with my mental health since lockdown in November

  • I want to lose 2 stone (already lost 2 stone this year so halfway there)
  • increase my daily activity: 10,000 steps daily and tone up my arms - maybe yoga would be good for that
  • sort out the crepey skin under my eyes... I am in my 40s and this seems to have worsened a lot this year. I’m guessing I would need an eye serum for this?
  • do my hair and light make up every day... I used to do this but have slipped the last couple of months and feel grotty for it
  • restart regular skincare routine ... again, I used to do this but now it’s on an ad hoc basis
  • floss daily... this is something I always struggle with tbh
  • once lost the weight invest in a good capsule wardrobe including decent underwear
EssexLioness · 28/12/2020 15:43

Oh and go to bed at a decent hour... and when I’m there not spend hours growing on my ipad

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/12/2020 15:43

@northernstars and others- which whitening strips do you recommend? I used pearl drops toothpaste religiously in lockdown and it was quite good. I've never heard of strips- do you wear them at night?

Is anyone looking at all aspects of their life?

I need general direction - the freelance work I used to do dried up due to covid - so need to find some work/income.
I've let all aspects of my self care (beauty, diet, exercise) become terrible. I've put on weight so only wear tracksuit bottoms, rarely wear makeup.
I feel pretty low, house is a mess.
I'd like to read more, be more organise, spend more time doing stuff than looking at Instagram watching other people do stuff.

Yes, definitely up for a holistic approach to rehauling my whole life! Including studying more, reading more, maybe taking up a crafty hobby etc. My looks are a good starting place, but I am aiming to do lots next year, (please God that covid or something else horrible won't scupper my plans again)!

Karcheer · 28/12/2020 16:33

That's good @FuckOffDailyFailure I guess we have to start somewhere :D

I will think of an initial list...

EssexLioness · 28/12/2020 17:09

Yes I am @Karcheer but I thought some of these things might help boost my mood so i can start tackling some of the bigger stuff too

Tehmina23 · 28/12/2020 18:27

I'm now 12st11lbs at 5'4" which I know is far too big.
I'm out of breath a lot, getting stress induced chest pain & joint pains.
I'd like to get down to 11 stone by calorie counting & gym.

My dream weight would be lower than that, eg 10 stone but I'm unsure how achievable that is for me.
I take a lot of meds which affect my appetite & slow my metabolism. Plus I binge & comfort eat on & off which is a habit I need to kick.

I work 3 days a week, usually 2 early shifts & 1 late shift.
Realistically it's hard to get below 1900 cals on an early shift day. If I try to eat less I feel quite unwell.
On a late shift day I can cut down to less than 1700 calories.
But on my 4 days off I can do 1500 calories.
I can start to go to the gym probably 3 times a week if we stay in tier 2 - 3.

I'm trying to start whitening my teeth.
I've got the trays & gel from the dentist I just need to make the effort to do it.

Finally I need a proper night time routine for my face, to make time to cleanse my face properly, apply serum eye cream & night cream.
Then my skin will look fresher, & more hydrated.

LBB2020 · 28/12/2020 19:34

I’ll join too!
I had a baby in September and have felt rubbish about myself since. I need to:

  • loose 10lbs to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight but ideally I’d like at least a stone off
  • start back with some exercise other than just walking, it will have to be YouTube videos around the baby and my toddlers naps!
  • go through my wardrobe and shoes as I have so much that doesn’t fit/doesn’t suit me/doesn’t suit my lifestyle etc
  • make an effort with my hair and makeup, before this year I wouldn’t have left the house without my makeup on but now it’s rare I wear any!
  • spend less time on my phone

That will do to start with!

2021optimist · 28/12/2020 20:04

Today I exercised, worked a half day (at home), wore proper clothes (not joggers) and wore jewellery. It's knackering this princessing lark! Grin

LemonSquirtInTheEyeOfLife · 28/12/2020 20:44

I'm joining. My goals are mainly health related. I had previously llst 4 stone of baby weight, but 3 stone of it has gradually crept back on. I feel flabby & listless, & am easily exhausted. Long term, I'd like to lose the weight, but I'm more interested in regaining muscle tone etc at the moment.

Exercise every day I'm well enough. (I'm long term / chronically ill, but some days I feel relatively well.) Either a good long walk, or cardio exercise with the Switch. I've got 2 exercise games. Both quite fun.

Skincare - I used to do a proper rougine. Totally fallen by the wayside since the summer, when I got ill. Now I'm feeling somewhat better I'm going to get back to it.

Korean Italy cloths - after a shower or bath. They do make an enormous difference, especially in conjunction with body moisturiser containing urea, salicylic or lactic acid. Massive reduction in keratosis pilaris, & generally smoother skin.

Also, I'm growing my hair. It's been extremely short for a decade. Much greyer, and darker, than it used to be! I won't be dyeing it though. Frankly, I CBA with the hassle. Maybe some moisturising treatments as it gets longer. I know an amazing one that makes it incredibly soft & silky.
