Princessing goals for 2021?

FuckOffDailyFailure · 27/12/2020 11:31

What is everyone working on for 2021? Obviously, events might not be happening, so I don't have anything to aim for.

However, I'm planning a self-care / hygge style makeover for myself.

I want to:

  • Eat healthily and maybe shed a few lbs!
  • Drink more water and less Wine
  • Tone up my arms, so I can wear tshirts and sleeveless dresses in the summer
  • clear out my wardrobe and pack things into storage. Things I am unlikely to need, like my work suit Xmas Sad and going out things
  • more reading / studying (I am a pt student) and less screen time! Need to go to all my online tutorials next term Xmas Blush. Keep forgetting as they always happen at kids' bedtime

Right, my list is pretty massive but I’ve split it into categories. I’m going to write a copy for by my bed so I can remind myself of my goals:

Exercise
Run 15miles a week
Yoga x 3 times a week (I use downward dog too, love it!)

Body / health
Lose 2 stone and tone up - but do this by eating well and nourishing myself rather than ordering McDonald’s as I’m tired then thinking sod it and having wine as well!
So my version of whole 30 - only eat something that has no other ingredients in it, so nothing processed, just food in its natural best quality state.
Take vitamins daily
Come off my anxiety medication
No Diet Coke

Beauty
Drink 2-3 litres water a day
7 hours sleep
Hair mask x 2 a week
Subtle fake tan x 2 a week
Manicure / pedicure once a week
Use my Phillips lumea again
Acid mask x 2 a week
Good morning / night skin care routine
Set my outfit out the night before - cull my wardrobe.
Wear ‘proper’ clothes even if working from home

General
Read before bed every day (not mumsnet!)
Eat all meals up table with Ds
Follow organised mum method for cleaning house
Have a good morning routine rather than waking up at last minute then rushing
Do my self worth course and the course on healthy boundaries / good relationships.

Above all, I want to laugh and have fun and be happy. I want my sparkle back! I think my aim is going to be present and show up as the best version of myself that I can muster in that moment. I’m 40 in a few days, and I want to be happy with my lot whilst making the best of it! (Sorry for the essay!)

I really have too many things in my wardrobe! I'm very much guilty of buying stuff because it's in sale and I need to stop doing that. My plan is to set up the rest of my capsule wardrobe, use only these things for a while and see if it works for me so I can start selling or donating stuff after for a while not using them.

User9574 · 29/12/2020 01:40

Great thread. Placemarking as will come back to update.

LemonSquirtInTheEyeOfLife · 29/12/2020 02:01

Adding two more:
Get back onto healthy meal prep - so that I have decent meal options ready for the days I'm ill. (I'm really ill quite often, bedbound at least 4 days a month, sometimes up to 10, & I have a few rough days before & after, too.) DH is not keen on healthy food with lots of veg. He'd live on pizza & kebabs if he could.

Also, go to bed earlier. I've been a terrible insomniac ever since I got pregnant, (DD is 8!) & for a week every month I really struggle to sleep more than a couple of hours per night. It's clearly hormonal, have bought some decent sleeping tablets, I'll see how they go... I'm not helping myself by staying up late other nights though. Blush

My aim for the year is to be back to a size 10 (ish) by next winter. Don't know if I'll manage but I'll take what I can get. I had mostly kicked the chocolate habit, but I've eaten some over the last week. However, cheese has replaced it somewhat... is that better than chocolate? I think I could cope without much chocolate if I ate more cheese! Grin

LaBellina · 29/12/2020 05:36

Unfortunately @LemonSquirtInTheEyeOfLife, insomnia can have a negative influence on your metabolism and result in weight gain.
I think if you manage to sort out the insomnia issue it might help you to lose weight more easily. I know how shit it is because I have also suffered from it during pregnancy and post partum. Probably you have tried everything already but here's my 2 cents : camomilla tea before bed, st John's worth pills (be careful though if you're on the pill!), switching off your phone at night because the screenlight helps you to stay awake and read a nice book instead. Go to bed very early for a couple of nights, even if you ly awake for a few hours you'll still hopefully fall asleep before midnight. Hope you can get it sorted xxxx

SpeckledyHen · 29/12/2020 07:30

Great thread thank you FODF
So much inspiration here . Off to set my priorities which will be based around health mainly.

LlamaofDrama · 29/12/2020 09:03

This has ended up really long! Basically, I want to look - and be - better groomed, but with a little daily effort rather than going crazy once in a blue moon and shocking everyone who knows me.

So my goals are capsule related, in an attempt to reduce input effort and increase output effect Grin.

Wardrobe: more or less already a capsule wardrobe in the sense that I have few clothes that are worn frequently. Now I need to go through, remove the mistakes, remove the ones with holes in or knackered elastic, identify gaps and fill them with high quality pieces rather than cheapie tat, which is my usual habit. And also get things tailored to fit, I'm not a standard size and I need to be less lazy.

Skincare: I want to create a capsule skincare routine. I can't be doing with lots of products, that need their own suitcase when you go away (hah!) and take hours of loving attention. So I want to strip it back to the essentials that will do a good job. Then prepared to spend a bit more on those if necessary.

Make up: similar to skin care. I think this is nearly there, last year I got a mini bag to put just my daily make up in so I'm not groping through three eyeshadows and four brow pencils to find my one concealer, when I don't use either eyeshadow or brow pencil very often. But I want to review this and do it properly. The right shades. The right products. Learn how to use them!

B127 · 29/12/2020 10:28

I have more.

Start taking a daily vitamin again.
Dig out the daily facial tan drops and use a couple of drops overnight once or twice a week.
Get into a weekly routine to epilate my underarms and legs, ready for summer.

I've already pared back makeup this year, so sticking with lipstick, mascara, a little concealer and perfume.

LemonSquirtInTheEyeOfLife · 29/12/2020 10:51

@LaBellina thanks, I'll try the camomile tea & st John's wort. I struggle to read books these days due to neurological illness, but I listen to audiobooks & podcasts instead. The headphones also reduce the noise of DH's snoring... and I'm not on any hormonal contraception. I did sleep ok last night, once I eventually got to sleep.

Have woken up this morning with pleasantly achey arms. Exercise, yay! Grin

LemonSquirtInTheEyeOfLife · 29/12/2020 10:57

@LlamaofDrama - one of the most effective skincare products I've ever used is Biologique Recherche P50 toner liquid. It's hellish pricey though, so much so that I don't use a cotton pad to apply it, I put a few drops on my fingers & spread it directly on my damp face. The cotton pad method wastes too much!

FuckOffDailyFailure · 29/12/2020 11:14

Thanks bellina for capsule info.

I wonder if the way to approach it then, is to pick my top items and try to only wear those. The thing is that my best items aren't really every day wear. I have a couple of dresses from Cos which are nice day wear, and would be every day wear in normal times. But at the moment, there is no point in wearing them.

Emmelina · 29/12/2020 11:20

I love this post.
Self care is also my goal this next year. I have a little over a stone to lose to be comfortable with myself again physically, it’s not much but I’m too short to carry the extra little bit well. I need to get out of the house more outside of work. Maybe a new haircut! I’ve never been a glamourpuss at all but just turned 40 and really think I should do something. Maybe a new hobby, too. Hmm.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/12/2020 13:24

Went into town today, we are tier 2 and I just needed to get out! Shops were deserted. I bought some nice workout clothes, a cashmere blend jumper and 2 vests from TK, and a really nice pair of jeans half price in Debenhams (so nice I have come home and ordered an identical pair online!), and a lovely slouchy grey yoga hoodie. This afternoon I'm going to put a podcast on and start a bit of ruthless sorting of my wardrobe I think. I buy lots of eBay and charity shop bits but they are often never quite right and therefore I don't wear them much so I am channelling your capsule wardrobe vibes!

Eaumyword · 29/12/2020 13:45

I bought some retinol serum and really nice shampoo and conditioner.
Booked in for a haircut on thurs, hope it might still happen (currently Tier 3) as I've been cutting it myself since November!

FuckOffDailyFailure · 29/12/2020 14:17

I've done some shopping this week too. There are some quite good sales on.

I got some boots from Seasalt, a nice jumper and gilet from Joules, (yes, I'm one of those Mumsnetters Xmas BlushXmas Wink), some jeggings from M&S and some new underwear, (nothing exciting, just refreshing my pants drawer for the New Year)!

I also have some storage bags arriving today and a bag from a company called Loopster, who give you a small amount of money, for old clothes, which they then sell on secondhand. I'm putting things which are in good condition, but which I want rid of completely, in there, and things I want to keep in the storage bags. Little project for me today.

OP posts:
Eaumyword · 29/12/2020 15:02

Loopster? Ooh I'm going to google. I always feel sad to clear my wardrobe of lovely clothes whose only crime is to not fit my sizeable arse. I do charity bag them but wardrobe clearing out is fairly major.
Ps: I wear gilets and jumpers from Joules too! Grin

FuckOffDailyFailure · 29/12/2020 15:59

Grin eau. I always heard Joules and Seasalt were awful and frumpy, so never bothered looking there.. went in one day and realised my style must be awful and frumpy, as I loved quite a few things in there Xmas Blush. Oh well. It suits my lifestyle anyway and I also love M&S!

Eaumyword · 29/12/2020 16:40

This is like looking in the mirror Grin

LlamaofDrama · 29/12/2020 16:50

Lemon that's a rabbit hole I can't risk falling down! It looks amazing, but while they won't give a price it looks sufficiently expensive that I might need reviving with smelling salts if I bought. It makes me sad that I can't throw that sort of care at the only skin I'll ever have, but I think I'll need to go and look at Nivea again. I could spend hours playing on the website though...

Tehmina23 · 29/12/2020 19:18

So far I've stuck to 1500 today and yesterday.
It's sooo hard especially in the evening when I get bored & lonely so want to snack. I think the weight went on mainly through too many snacks.

EssexLioness · 29/12/2020 19:30

Checking in today... back on the diet and did my steps for the day. Did light make up and made a bit more effort with my hair. Stuck to skincare routine

FuckOffDailyFailure · 29/12/2020 19:43

Oh well done to people sticking to a diet! I've sort of resigned myself to the fact I won't start properly till New Year.

OP posts:
Tehmina23 · 31/12/2020 12:52

Snacked too much last night. No chocolate in the house so ate the protein bars Id bought for work!
So snacking is ruining my figure and my budget as I have to buy more!!
Looked in the mirror this morning. Can't get into my skinny jeans so wearing leggings.

So got 4 days off now.
It's back to 1500 cals per day plus a walk & my free weights as tier 4 the gym is shut.

Also got to start a good night time routine.
I keep falling asleep in my clothes with the lights on!!

Eesha · 31/12/2020 13:03

Lose a stone as always. Prior to the hols, I was eating healthy and doing 20K steps a day and feeling so much better. Now sitting with my second McDonald's in two days!

FestiveFannyGallops · 01/01/2021 00:51

Please could I join you? My goals are:
Clinique 3 step twice a day plus eye cream and serum now that I'm getting on a bit (44)
Tone my upper arms. They seem to be looking old lately
Continue with my fitbit goals and 16:8 eating
Get my BMI to 21 (currently 23.5)
Lights out by 10pm
Daily walk on the weekends and holidays (I walk a minimum of 5 miles a day mon-fri).
Cracked heel cream and exfoliating my feet every other day
Hand cream at night

The arms, lights out and bmi are going to be the most challenging.
