Yes, since I'm a gen z-er now I can inform you all that rebelling through clothes is as ageing as a side part in skinny jeans. You rebel through body modifications and/or gender identities. And then if you're really cool, you rebel against those, obviously.

I chopped my school skirt into a dress or top for ‘muck up day’ at the end of year 12- I can’t remember which, prob have photos somewhere 😳
Definitely not cool enough to rebel through body modifications!!

Floisme · 10/03/2021 13:06

Oh indeed bo - why rebel against clothing when you can subvert physical reality itself Smile

I'm currently making a little Chanel style jacket with Linton tweed fabric with a bit lurex thread running through it.

I am here for the Clothed Women in Repose exhibition

I had a look at the Chanel show and I have to say it felt a bit all over the shop to me. There’s bit of flapper inspiration, noughties ski gear, 90s supermodel vibes, the opening luxe bohemian looks ( which I adore) and then you get the attached logo jeans which are bound to be a hit with the Instgramati. Then there’s this look which is absolutely not Gen-Z, but more gen-X - those are skinnies right, a coatigan and a pair of, dare I say it, “mum boots”. Maybe Virginie is having a laugh. My favourite game to play with runway shows is to pretend Karl (because if you’re going to daydream you may as well go the whole hog) has offered me my choice of looks from the show to take home. There’s no pick ‘n’ mixing, it one complete look. I choose this burgundy one mainly for the gorgeous coat.

Bani I loved your rant. You’ve hit the nail on the head, a sparkly lurex tweed jack is only subversive when your world contains lots of bouclé 2-piece suits. The bouclé Chanel jacket has been done to death by the high street and it practically looks like Chanel is copying that.

thisname I think making it yourself with gorgeous fabric is practically subversive at this point.

Well Flo when you live your life online the consequences of your virtual actions in the physical don't concern you much 🤷 in extension of that, we're ploughing our way through Adam Curtis' latest documentary series, very interesting food for thought but I fear I'll end up a nihilist at the end as it does all feel a bit despondent.

Subverting the subversives with unicorns... Well played time, well played. I'm sure you're already aware of the cloning couture blog.

Yes, the Chanel show was all over the place but it was very Parisian in that it had something for all the different Parisiennes. It felt a bit Isabel Marant in places, the hair was good too for a comprehensive guide to core Parisian hairstyles, I've just cut myself some curtain bangs so I fit right in Halo I've liked that a lot of the shows have been out on the streets of Paris, it really gave it an added dimension. Chloé show was interesting to watch for the urban interaction although I'm not all that wowed by the clothes (to similar to GH's own line IMO).

I'm not really a Chanel fan, but if I had to pick a whole outfit I'd pick the attached but I'd probably never wear them together.

Linton Tweeds are lovely... a local shop stocks notebooks covered in them. They make good presents for arty people, stationery-holics (I know a few) and anyone else who scribbles and likes fabric.

banivani · 10/03/2021 19:20

thisname I hope your jacket turns out fabulous and you love it! Grin Star Sure you're making it yourself so you're definitely firmly choosing it, not making do!

Clothed Women in Repose -- I might start a pinterest board!

ThisNameIsDifferentFromTheLast · 10/03/2021 21:09

The large herringbone tweed esq pattern used for the trousers and coat is a nice modern touch on a classic, and those trousers are just a perfect level of slouchy.

Xing I love the idea of a tweed bound notebook. Think I'll be borrowing that for a way to use up any scraps.

Bo the cloning couture blog is fabulous, I loved the Alexander McQueen flounced top she recreated.

Alas on me the jacket is looking more Angela Merkel than subversive, but at least it's not like bojo so still a win.

timeisnotaline · 10/03/2021 23:15

The jigsaw range was Linton tweed, I have a now somewhat worn but very useful dress and blazer/work type jacket (separates). Jacket is in a big size so fits layers and is a great way to look a bit more dressed in winter.

I do quite like lurex tweed, I’m partial to lurex in everything Grin. But I think for those of us who didn’t really grow up with tweeds at all, tweed plus lurex thread just seems like another kind of tweed, not any kind of pseudo uprising.

I totally forgot the Simone Rocha collab was today but did manage to fairly easily browse. I ordered the cable knit jumper (loved the shape, hate the embellishments, will see if they can be easily removed) and the red check dress. Uhmed and ahed at some other things but a lot was all synthetic and just not wearable (not sure if I'll keep any of what I ordered but I'm curious). The men's trousers looked too pyjama bottoms up close and the children's clothes were severely limited in size range so no chance of squeezing into that. Anyone els manage to snap something up?

Name, yes I really appreciate her blog and also the thorough documentation of everything. Is it a generational thing that the more serious sewers are pretty much blog exclusive?

In Bojo's defence, whoever his (I assume) Saville Row tailor is, they bloody do a good job. I had no clue he was as big as he was previously and now that he's lost weight I struggle to see the difference from his suits.

Floisme · 11/03/2021 09:04

Oh I'd forgotten about Simone Rocha! Too late now I think - I'm 'in the queue' and I've got to work. I might have been tempted by one of those photo print Ts but I think I'll ask MrFlo to do me a home made one for my birthday.

quirkychick · 11/03/2021 10:18

I'm not so keen on the lurex tweed Grin. I think I just meant I like the mixing and matching of styles rather than one in particular. I do like both Elle's choice and bo's choice with the burgundy coat and slouchy trousers. I find "classic" clothing really doesn't work that well on me and I need to mix it up a bit. I certainly have punk connotations with tartan and stripes. Anything vintage can start to look a bit costumy, if you're not careful.

Redandblue11 · 11/03/2021 14:40

I go away for a couple of days and I find all the gorgeous photos and immensely interesting conversation about women lying down, and ME and Russia!
‘I go away’ in metaphorical sense .

Yes the MH dress is MHL. And I tried it a bit looser and makes more sense but still on the roomy side, I will probably not get it altered , I am quite happy (I think) with roomy stuff. Tbh most of my dresses are roomy at the top if they fit perfectly at the bottom.

Redandblue11 · 11/03/2021 15:44

I have just realised that I have missed a whole page of posts too, thisname making a jacket etc etc
I am also up for the WLD with clothes exhibit.

Pigeon31 · 11/03/2021 18:00

@quirkychick

Sorry, not lying down either, but a link to an article about the Chanel show and being a tribute to Stella Tennant www.theguardian.com/fashion/2021/mar/09/chanel-stella-tennant-chic-androgyny-paris-tribute-virginie-viard It's that making tweed etc. modern again.
I love the loose tweed trouser suit with the pearls but oversized suits would swamp me so I just have to admire from afar. (Also I have a jerk reaction against Chanel because she was a Nazi but not really fair to blame the current designers for that)
banivani · 12/03/2021 06:48

I had forgotten about the SR opening too but did check it out but still nothing I liked. If the pearls come off I agree the Aran jumper is a nice shape but I wasn’t keen enough to get it at all.

I started the Pinterest board but it’s very hard to find photos unless you know what to look for so it’ll be a work in progress ;)

botemp · 12/03/2021 07:22

You just need to know where to look Wink I give you the women of the Bauhaus.

Those are GREAT Bo, thank you! I searched for some people I knew I could remember seeing photos of and now Pinterest thinks I want glamour shots in general :(

timeisnotaline · 12/03/2021 08:19

What do you search for to get woman, clothed, sitting, bemasked? Blush
That’s a beautiful burgundy fabric in the coat and trousers in Chanel. A touch of watered silk in the effect from the photos.

I’m sure I saw a style editorial in the last month saying post COVID reactionary fashion means stilettos will be IN. Is there anyone else saying that? It’s not what I’m seeing.

Redandblue11 · 12/03/2021 08:28

Stunning photos Bo.
Confused Bani Pinterest has some disturbing ai to associate what people are searching ... they need to work on that!

botemp · 12/03/2021 08:40

Covid streetsyle, maybe, Time? Why must they be bemasked? That makes it difficult because masks are generally an indoor thing and people don't hang around and sit indoors with their masks on much.

Found one from Eileen Gray (not the one I was looking for but can't seem to find that one, it must be in a book and miraculously enough not on the internet).

And some Zaha Hadid, can't find the full pic of that either but still a good pic.

What are you all typing into Pinterest, I've never had such issues. I did on our local version of eBay though when I saved a search for a hard to source curly girl brand called Kinky Curly and constantly got kinky sexual stuff in my suggested feed, and no, I'm not interested in having your sissy husband come clean my house wearing dolls clothes while I verbally abuse him (sincerely doubt a wife was the one posting that ad) Hmm

Crude algorithms suck, speaking of, I'm being bombarded with wedding dresses now probably for talking about miniature ones on here...

Ah, gotcha, no gimp suits entered my Google search bar, I promise, it was just part of the Bauhaus search results.
