Ooh I like that a lot Bani, it's a shame they have it in the most perfect rusty red on Bootz but the largest is a size 40. I also somehow like attached dress on afound for you, for some reason. Is that too long to be a midi for you (or alternatively, off you fuck, Bo, with your snake skin ideas Halo).

And I also like this one on their own site but maybe too party (free shipping and returns though).

And while we're at it these trousers can totally pass for a skirt and work with boots too.

I really like that idea @Redandblue11of mixing sweatshirts with structured wool trousers. Those culottes are beautiful.

I agree with pleats being difficult to wear, I adore a skirt from COS via eBay that I got a couple of years ago, it has wide pleats AND wrap, I look huge at waist and hips. I have been wearing it with long heavy shirts and blazers, something like the current Joseph silhouette. I’ve been looking for a longish heavy knit to go with it, but no luck so far.

Sorry some reason it’s not letting me attach images here are links to the skirt www.endource.com/product/cos-asymmetric-pleated-wrap-skirt/XBw2L8nnfAABBJ-t

Those Joseph culottes are pretty perfect bani, and look good with sweatshirts. You must be about my height based on culottes length. My dream is to be able to toss clothes on and get that effortless casual chic result!

That Joseph model in the jacket and handkerchief hem pleat skirt- is there a trick to it? Is there anyone non celebrity who can carry that off without looking like going for party wear and missed the mark, or trying for fashionable meets corporate and missed the mark? I think the skirt being white tips it over into unachievable in real life for me.

70sduvet · 17/02/2021 23:13

Pleated skirts - the semi wafty kind looked good on me when I was a size 12 and possibly had a hint of an in and out shape.
Now im thinner my waist and hips and bum are like a column and they just hang and look odd.

The outfit choices in ads or magazines or even blogs now never seem to take weather into the equation. When would you be cold enough to wear a jacket but warm enough for sandals?
Posing on a cooker with zara maybe?
I'm always looking for inspiration that INCLUDES ACTUAL RELEVANT FOOTWEAR!
Micro uggs are apparently back in but you know only with a matching micro mini dress

I haven't watched the decorating show yet but have it saved. Its the rules you see, if someone from NI is on TV we all have to watch. He works in a local decorating shop that is really good and well known here.
My family loved Changing Rooms. Ragged rolled kitchen and sponged bedrooms and God the stencils!

luggageandbags · 17/02/2021 23:37

I agree, it’s silly seeing runway models in heavy coats and bare legs but to me this Joseph styling is perfectly wearable, I find myself in need of a lightweight wool jacket in mornings and evenings for most of May and September.

My skirt is more cream than white and I have been wearing it with a simple poplin caramel colour shirt and tan sandals or plimsolls; I think that keeps it easy even though the skirt and silhouette is fashun. And the swish is worth it.

70sduvet · 17/02/2021 23:57

luggage if there's a swish its always worth it!!!
Id almost forgotten about swishy clothes with all this stay at home crap. Very little swishing. Must rectify.
I'd almost forgotten about the need for light jackets tooBlush, so now that does make sense. I need to look at photos with a more positive outlook. spring is coming

botemp · 18/02/2021 07:11

Right, we can start rubbing those thighs again for the next few months, there will be a Jil Sander and Uniqlo spring summer collection 🎉

I'd quite like a shirt dress Smile

I commend you luggage, I'm pretty sure I'd end up looking like a tourist guide in a pleated midi with a longline blazer on top. It's a popular look in Korea/Japan, they seem to have the shape for it.

I missed Red’s culottes and sweatshirt - that is a cool look, very insouciant. The culottes look fab on you, no straining at the pleats there .
Several/many years ago when boots and short trousers (knee-length? can’t remember) were trendy a friend said to me I could wear that because I had long legs (longer than hers she meant, primarily, she is petite). But I have tried the cropped/culotte thing now a few times and I can’t get along with it. SoI think the trousers you posted Bo would be out. This might be foolish of me so I promise I’ll make an effort at some point to try on a similar item with an open mind.
As regards snake print I’m afraid you’ll have to fuck off. Possibly in a very dark combination like navy and black. And not up to my face. But I have looked at that very dress because of the colour before. Wink You posted the same skirt I did but a different colour (also great colour). It’s a good one I think, I’m only a little dubious on the hem.
Twist & Tango are a difficult brand, one of those that are no better than H&M really quality wise but with higher prices (which makes me loath to pay them). More importantly I find the sizes tricky. By their size guide on their website I would not fit into a 42, but my experience with most brands is that I most often do. [shrug] Basically, I dare not order without free returns, there are no guarantees.
The Cos skirt Luggage looks to me like the quintessential tricky Cos garment - clever, appealing, but hard as hell to actually wear. As for longish knits I’ve been wearing my Irish wool men’s jumper to death this winter so that’s my suggestion, look at those!
I don’t understand the mismatched in warmth looks either and bitch on the royal thread about heels/pumps worn with heavy wool coats. What IS the point. Most importantly I think they’re missing a trick by only doing that sort of styling, because we need tips on the other sort as well (the sort we wear). But bare legs are one thing, legs can be tolerant. Feet on the other hand ….

banivani · 18/02/2021 07:26

Any prepics of the items from the new JS collection?

botemp · 18/02/2021 07:41

I thought it was a different but similar, wave instead of herringbone pattern. I suppose you can use the PayPal return service again but you don't sound that excited about it.

They briefly sold Twist and Tango here in a Canadian department store that stood no chance but spent a ridiculous amount of money trying (I have my bargain Margiela jumpsuit to thank for that Halo), I can't remember the sizing of t&t, or that I actually tried anything.

I thought it was a bit like other Scandi brands that are nice enough but just priced too highly for your average person and too low for someone who regularly buys diffusion designer brands. I always assumed that in Scandinavia the price equation made more sense, although I'm still clueless how these brands survive financially (I think that about a lot of brands though).

Sorry no pics, I think it's just a press release that's been sent out. Remember we had to wait for forever to even catch a glimpse of anything last time.

H&M studio launches today though, it's a bit historical pirate.

I love that hat and I'm very impressed to see H&M taking their inspiration from Dr Gull in The Four Marys.

That link doesn't work for me bo but no matter, I'm excited already. And this time, I'm keeping the shirt - you can remind me I said that if needed.

I like that tailored trousers and sweatshirt look Red. I've been trying to do it myself and also to mix blazers with something dressed down, which is proving a bit harder - well there's jeans of course but I'd like to find something a bit fresher. I did try a blazer with joggers but couldn't get past feeling like I'd swallowed a copy of Vogue. Which in fairness, I had.

CatherineMaitland · 18/02/2021 09:33

The Four Marys!

I still have a lot of those comics in a box somewhere, the stories hold up surprisingly well.

Floisme · 18/02/2021 09:37

Who was your favourite Mary?
Mine was Mary Simpson.

CatherineMaitland · 18/02/2021 09:57

Mine too - she was most like me.

Redandblue11 · 18/02/2021 10:46

Thank you for the compliments on the Joseph culottes. Not sure why I didn’t do it before ...

Those H&M studio clothes are ghastly.

Allegedly it will be 15 degrees and sunny over the weekend. I might be able to wear a skirt without tights!! 🌞🌞🌞🌞

Redandblue11 · 18/02/2021 10:47

I love the Joseph inspiration that luggage tagged.

botemp · 18/02/2021 11:00

Ghastly Hmm that's unnecessarily harsh, most of it is not my thing but it's hardly offensive or that different from what else is out there. I quite like some of the trousers but nothing that I need. I even enjoy the pirate vibes but perhaps that's just nostalgia to when Vivienne Westwood did it exceptionally well.

Who are these Four Marys?

I've too much time on my hands so going by inbox archive I'm now thinking either April or May for the +J collection to launch but I'm thrown as they recently launched the baby poo Uniqlo U collection a few weeks back when that usually launches closer to summer and they just launched the Ines de La Fressange collection today.

I'm quite keen on this blouse, but not sure I really need it - www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-ines-silk-stand-collar-long-sleeved-blouse-436216.html?dwvar_436216_color=COL66&dwvar_436216_size=SMA002&cgid=IDshirts17000

Would love a Jil Sander shirt-dress. There can never be too many shirt-dresses in my wardrobe. As long as they are not blue ones - blue ones make me look like a wartime ward sister.

Floisme · 18/02/2021 13:07

Who are these four Mary's?
Shock
Does that mean you never played Bunty's Cut-Out Wardrobe?

Floisme · 18/02/2021 13:08

Marys. iPhone added the apostrophe.

botemp · 18/02/2021 13:14

Oh, god, I read that as Bunty's Cunt Out wardrobe Shock

I did have those paper doll dress things but always got annoyed with the whole cutting everything out carefully business. Our back up fridge has a magnetic Lenin version where I can dress him up as a nun or YMCA member whenever I fancy. Didn't have to cut him out though.

Anyhow, the only British boarding school adventures I ever knew about were the Mallory Towers series, but pretty sure you're not supposed to mention ever reading those anymore.

OP posts:
Floisme · 18/02/2021 13:29

I adored Mallory Towers. I think I may even have enjoyed it more than Miss World.
