AARRGHH! Discontinued favourites 😡

I’m SO annoyed! Just went to the Lish website to reorder my Queen Bee hair stuff and found it’s gone. Replaced by a cream which just won’t be right for me - it’s the addition of beeswax that stops my hair from fluffing up and releasing all moisture.

So I have two questions. What favourites of yours have been discontinued and what did you replace it with? And can you recommend anything to replace Queen Bee? 😭 I guess technically that’s three questions but still....

I am also annoyed that I bought a lipstick from Mac (it was a limited edition to be fair) which was discontinued with no equivalent replacement. It was perfect.

L’occitane creme maman et bebe. As good as hydrocortisone for my eczema. Nothing comes close, including other l’occitane Shea butter creams. I’ve had an alert on eBay for years and it’s never come up.

What happened to the whole Helena Rubinstein & Elizabeth Arden ranges? They used to do some lovely things.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 11/12/2020 09:20

@LadyEloise

Anyone in the beauty trade on here ? If so do you know why popular products are discontinued and why popular products have their formulations changed ?

I presume best sellers aren't dumped - that would be commercial suicide.
But why reformulations ?

If it ain't broke why fix it ?

I’m not in the trade but sometimes reformulations happen because regulations change, eg EU bans or changes ‘safe levels’ for certain ingredients and so companies have to change their products to fit the new legislation. Also, sometimes reformulations happen as a cost saving exercise.

You can still get CK Truth, I buy it from here

L'Or du Torrente perfume. Still not replaced it 😭x

Blueberrycreampie · 11/12/2020 10:19

Body Shop lip gloss in Cranberry. Came out one Christmas but not seen again since. It was in a tin and lasted for years till it got all sticky. Liz Earle cooling Lavender Gel. Lovely after being in hot sun. Would be great if it came back.

ChrissyPlummer · 11/12/2020 10:22

Champneys used to do a gel thing which I used to use on my chub rub. Haven’t seen it for years and not found a replacement. I just don’t wear skirts/dresses without tights/leggings now.

Wella Liquid Hair. LOVED it! It made my hair silky and shiny like nothing before ever had or since.
I've looked on amazon and they have quite a few products under liquid hair. Which is the one with the fab results please?
alittleredhen · 11/12/2020 10:37

Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint! I'm devastated about it!

PatsyStone39 · 11/12/2020 10:48

@sunnymondays the perfume that's very like Carmella is this www.lookfantastic.com/sol-de-janeiro-cheirosa-62-eau-de-parfum-50ml/12545085.html

It's quite pricey so perhaps try the body spray or shampoo in the sol de Janeiro range to see if you like the smell. There's a 10% off discount code right now. But it's absolutely devine! The shampoo is to die for. I walk around sniffing my hair all day. Lol

Thank you so much! I just ordered AND I used the code 'Perfume18' to get 18% off. Bargain!!! Tis the season to buy presents for oneself 😍

Kiki275 · 11/12/2020 11:47

@ChrissyPlummer that's an easy one. Asda Little Angels Liquid Talc!!! Cheap as chips but a nightmare to get hold of. Honestly it's fab, you'll find it with the baby talc, washes etc x

littleburn · 11/12/2020 11:48

Dior Glow Maximiser primer. It was gorgeous! Gave a lovely warm, non-sparkly golden glow on its own or under foundation. My first Sali Hughes-recommended purchase too. Becca have something close, but not quite the same.

I use this under my boobs to prevent sores from my bra rubbing (nice!)😂

I am still annoyed that Loreal discontinued their Translucide foundation, years and years after it happened. I have never found one that measures up, it was absolutely perfect for my skin. Also their Studio Silk & Gloss curl spray- again, perfect for my hair, nothing has ever given me as good a result (cheap or expensive) and it irritates me that it is gone.

danuta22 · 11/12/2020 13:48

sotto vocce perfume from laura biagotti

Elizabeth Arden is still available. I think Helen Rubinstein pulled out of the UK market. Lots of the products mentioned above haven't been discontinued, it's just that shops don't have floor space for new stuff and old stuff.

@LadyEloise, perfumes all had to be reformulated due to ingredients regulations, oskmoss for example, which is the basenote of basically all chypre perfume (Miss Dior, Dioressence, Chanel 5, Chanel 19, anything we think of as classic "grande dame" perfume has been regulated as it is a known allergen) I can't remember exactly when it happened. About 20 years ago.

ChrissyPlummer · 11/12/2020 13:56

@Kiki275 oooh! I actually have some of that - I use it for when I do my martial arts graduations to stop my feet slipping. Never thought of it for chub rub. Thanks!

FuzzyPuffling · 11/12/2020 16:04

Vera Wang "Truly Pink" perfume. It really does smell of roses.

Drawmelikeoneofyourfrenchgirls · 11/12/2020 16:12

Valentino Rock n Rose perfume, it was beautiful. Does anyone remember shelaq from benefit? It was like glue for your makeup, came in a little blue bottle. Made your mascara stay put all day! Also, bobbi brown lipgloss. There was one particular shade I wore daily for years but they discontinued it, their shade selection is really poor now

Everley · 11/12/2020 16:25

Yes, She-Laq is my most missed product ever! Bloody great stuff.

Also:

  • Impulse O2 body spray
  • Estee Edit Lip Flip Shade Transformers (basically a black lipstick & a yellow lipstick that either deepen or lighten your lipstick)
  • ProStrong Marathon Manicure - the only thing to keep polish on my nails
  • Bare Minerals brow colour in a little pot
  • Urban Decay Smoke Out eyeliner
  • Urban Decay Hotpants eyeshadow
  • Estee Lauder Blushing Natural Cheek Colour in Rose Desire
  • the Clarins waterproofing topcoat for mascara

Body shop dewberry

eatingapeach · 11/12/2020 17:12

Gucci Accenti. Still searching for a replacement.

EnPoinsettia · 11/12/2020 17:18

Oh, remembered Dior Hair Mascara. And as PPs have said, 17 liquid liner. Bloody unshiftable.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/12/2020 17:19

I loved the BodyShop Absinthe handwash , I used as a showergel. It was gorgeous in Summer
Also M&S Forest Fern shower gel .
