I saw a thread about what we accept we cannot wear, so I thought a thread about what looks great on us would be nice as well!

@Gwenhwyfar

What kind of person/head is good for hats? How do you find hats that suit?

I do not what it is about my face, but I seem to suit all hats. No matter what style - even a simple bobble hat - makes me look better.

However, I also have very curly hair, and so I rarely wear them as at some point you have to take them off and then I have All The Frizz. Angry

MiniTheMinx · 16/11/2020 09:18

I think oval faces suit all hats, longer faces need a wider brim, round faces need a hat that is either quite large, flooppy or angular with a larger top. Square faces suit cloche style hats best. I wanted to be a milliner when I went to Art college many years ago, not very realistic given that so few people wear hats.

I like my décolletage as I’m tall, slim and small boobed. So anything that draws attention to that area. DH in particular always seems to like me in a high neck halter neck (this kind of thing)

What looks amazing on you?
Wagsandclaws · 16/11/2020 21:59

I'm a 20/22 and I love barely there sandals on me, for a fattie I've got fairly trim legs and ankles so I try and accentuate the best bits iyswim?

Sometimes being an apple shape is awful as i can look like an upside down triangle but I like my legs and ankles Smile

It's lovely to see a nice diverse section of women who know what suits. Attached pic of one of my favourite outfits with said barely there silver sandals Smile

@Wagsandclaws

Wow you look amazing. That’s a great photograph! I have very chunky legs despite being slim (ish!) in the torso and arms ... we all come in different shapes & sizes!

@PrimeraVez

I love that top — just gorgeous! I’d say one-shouldered dresses & tops suit you too. They suit me as do cold shoulders. My top half is much easier to dress than my bottom half as All my weight is in my bottom half.

Stumpedasatree · 17/11/2020 16:40

I wish I knew what suited me!

I'd love to fire all my measurements, skin and hair colour into an app and for it to spit out my ideal wardrobe Grin.

I'm envious of those who do know what they look good in.

I rarely seem to get any compliments so that makes it even harder.

Gwenhwyfar · 18/11/2020 16:34

"I'd love to fire all my measurements, skin and hair colour into an app and for it to spit out my ideal wardrobe grin."

Oh yes. Why doesn't that exist? Or does it?

I think I suit halter necks as well, but it would have to be at least 35C for me to wear one. Even a small puff of breeze and my shoulders would be cold!

Separatedandabitsad · 18/11/2020 17:14

@Stumpedasatree

Have you ever gone to a stylist? I haven’t but I went to the personal shopper in Debenhams a few years ago. I know lots of other shops have them ... I know now is not a great time for it but something like that could inspire you.

Long legs and good ankles so 7/8 trousers and mini or midi skirts. I've got really nice feet, so sandals and a pedicure all summer long. We'll draw a veil over my top half Grin

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 18/11/2020 18:42

Ankle boots too. And Converse.

Applesonthelawn · 18/11/2020 20:06

Expensive loungewear. I'm athletic, 61, thick long silver hair, light skin, bright blue eyes, bright lipstick works wonders and black eyeliner. Like my neutrals, plain solid colours, no patterns. Love hiker boots, but hate biker boots which are just too masculine for me.

I get drowned out by prints especially large ones, and sharply contrasting colours. Can't wear short sleeves - I look like a builder. A bit apple shaped so I look very matronly in a blazer or things that are too tailored.

Twinkie01 · 18/11/2020 20:56

I don't think I've ever looked in the mirror and thought I looked great.

I'm tall and muscly with big boobs, size 10/12.

Am reading to see if there's something I can wear from the descriptions of other people.

It's a lovely thread reading what makes other people feel good about themselves.

Separatedandabitsad · 18/11/2020 21:30

@Twinkie01

I’d imagine v necks look amazing on you

That’s funny as I’d put the veil over my bottom half!! Grin

Yes fitted draped dresses in jewel colours and red lipstick with a smidge of orange in it

mymadworld · 18/11/2020 21:36

Crisp, ironed white shirt tucked into jeans/trousers with a fab belt (I mentioned ironed as there's not much in my wardrobe that gets this treatment!)
gold jewellery - always worn silver and realised I actually suit gold much more!
Slim fit belted dresses. I have a small waist and flat stomach plus dresses are great for disguising chunky thighs.

Have to say nothing makes me feel sexier than my work uniform- I’m a short size 16 hourglass so usually look dumpy, but the minute I put that on (especially the long sleeved version) I look and feel really confident. I did, however, have it professionally tailored; that’s what made the difference. Cost a bomb like, but I figured I’d be wearing it 60 hours a week so...

Also I am going to try a midi prairie dress! This has been a lovely thread to read.

PussGirl · 18/11/2020 22:04

Salsa jeans - the best fit I've found by far

Usually worn with a fitted top in a plain, cool colour & a knotted scarf - knotted like a plait - and pumps or boots

Age 55, size 8/10, curvy bottom, small perky boobs

Separatedandabitsad · 18/11/2020 23:06

@PussGirl

I’ve often wondered about Salsa jeans. Thanks.

I like wearing scarves because they suit me but also because I get cold easily so they’re a handy way to keep warm.

OP posts:
PussGirl · 19/11/2020 06:46

@Separatedandabitsad they are cut to fit a slim waist and a sticky-out bottom. Fairly high-waisted.

DukeOfEarlGrey · 19/11/2020 12:33

Thanks for the uplifting thread OP!

I’m 5’11 and an hourglass (now exaggerated hourglass after a year of staying in!)

I look awesome in a business suit - I would totally hire me

I was also surprised to discover that I look fab in a silk jumpsuit for evening - so surprised in fact that I now own about 5 I’m different colours and styles!

Separatedandabitsad · 19/11/2020 15:55

@PussGirl

Perfect!

OP posts:
Separatedandabitsad · 19/11/2020 15:57

@DukeOfEarlGrey

I love jumpsuits & they suit me too but I never saw a silk one! Oooh la la! Sounds amazing! You’re lucky your hourglass just gets exaggerated when you gain weight. I’m hourglass when I’m slim & very apple & pear-like when gaining weight!
