So I think I need to give up on very wide leg jeans, I ordered some Topshop Oversized Mom jeans and they weren't right at all, taking them back today.

Hit me with your non-skinny but not too wide jeans to wear with DMs or chunky trainers please!

CottonSock · 13/11/2020 12:38

Ooooh joining. A bit under 5.1". Stuck in a rut with skinny jeans

chasegirl · 13/11/2020 15:03

Looking for a nice black winter jacket, wool or similar. Everything seems to be too wide or have massive shoulders.

Any recommendations please?

This is how I feel - I think I've been wearing Jamie Skinny Ankle Grazers for nearly a decade!

NearWildHeaven · 14/11/2020 10:31

As a petite with a slightly pear shape I haven't worn skinnies a lot (otherwise I end up looking like a carrot). I wear the relaxed skinnies from Next which are a bit less tight and halfway between skinnies and straight legs. Rolled up they work with boots and trainers I reckon.

Sooverthemill · 14/11/2020 10:55

@TooMinty mom jeans aren't 'wide leg'. They just aren't skinny. Take a look at these from fatface which are nice.

Or for actual wide legs these from white stuff ( an offer at the moment). I have similar and they are fine on my 5'1

There are so many styles that aren't skinny ( though I'm returning to skinnies this winter!)

Sooverthemill · 14/11/2020 11:00

@TooMinty this is me in wide legs (1&2)
In slim boyfriend (3)

Thanks @Sooverthemill - you look great in all of those. I think from your excellent modelling I would like slim boyfriend jeans - where did you get yours?

Oh sorry, missed this - will check out Next too, thanks!

That particular pair are quite old Hush ( definitely worth a look as they have loads, or try ebay) but jigsaw do a pair ( which I have too) called the Hampton or try Boden who do a 'girlfriend' which is basically the same and I'm wearing the black Boden girlfriend jeans today

Sooverthemill · 14/11/2020 14:04

Actually the ones I'm wearing in the first set might be the Hampton!

MargosKaftan · 14/11/2020 14:06

I just got a delivery from New Look. Pretty much everything is going back, bur their petite slim leg joggers are staying, first that look right on my frame.

Good for a casual jean alternative.

Thanks! I was wondering what "girlfriend" jeans meant so you have answered that! Will check out Hush and Jigsaw plus I think Mint Velvet have some too.

Would the joggers work with DMs do you think?

I’ve discovered Toast ‘Ashley’ jeans which are meant to be a long crop but sit just on my ankle bone and look nice with chunky boots - they’re a wide but straight cut and fit my bum and thighs well.

chillichutneysarnie · 15/11/2020 09:59

Placemarking, great thread!

I will check those out. Although Toast is a bit dangerous for me as I think all the knitwear looks gorgeous but sooo pricey...

50 and 5'2" here, a curvy size 12 on a good day or 14 on a fat day.

Some good brands that may not have been mentioned (thanks for all the recommendations):

~ NYDJ do petite, the leg is about 29inch but shrinks to about 28
~ J Crew petite is OK for work, as is Banana Republic
~ Joules jackets are short in the back, so only the sleeves need taking up
~ Ralph Lauren wrap dresses "normal size" are short in the back so fit we shorties.
~ Monsoon dresses usually fit. Many of them have straps you can slide to tighten, or they lift easily.
~ Lands End do good basics, such as T-Shirts, shorts and chinos

wink1970 · 16/11/2020 13:00

Oh and Precis Petite - they have been stuck in a 'fuddy duddy' mode for years with their main range but still do lovely work coats, smart military styles and pea coats. They dry clean wonderfully and are very warm.

Sooverthemill · 16/11/2020 15:12

@wink1970 my inside leg is 25! NYDJ are far too long

wink1970 · 16/11/2020 15:17

@Sooverthemill Sad

I have normal-ish legs but a short back. It makes for a frustrating shopping experience for tops & jackets (especially as I have 32G boobs)

Wish they would invent a growth tablet, I'd take it over looking younger any way.

Sooverthemill · 16/11/2020 16:31

I have no idea if my back is normal or short. Nor indeed what my body 'shape' is. I just try stuff on and see if it fits but never ever wear anything trouser like with an inside leg of more than 26 ( or I get it hemmed but often ruins the line). Pretty much always buy petite jeans.

JaceLancs · 16/11/2020 21:01

I’m 5’4” size 12 hourglass size 4 narrow feet
Although I’m not as short as many of you DD is same body size n shape as me but only 5’
We both have absurdly short torso and long legs so can’t wear anything fitted round waist or with a seam or belt loops even as they are so far in wrong place
It also means the narrow part of say a dress or coat which would normally be the waist is around my stomach so never fits

Appzy · 17/11/2020 09:46

This thread has been amazing!!!

Has anyone managed to find knee length leather boots that don't smack them in the back of the knee??

I'm barely 5"1 and on the shorter side with legs, need a narrower fit around the calves and I've never found a pair that fit yet!

wink1970 · 18/11/2020 13:15

@Appzy I'm 5'2 and have a couple of pairs of R&B boots where the back is cut shorter than the front. They're quite old but they still do similar styles.
