Checking in at 5' and apple shaped Sad

I have mainly given up even looking these days.

I tend to wear straight cut tunics as dresses (forever grateful for my nice legs)

What I need to find is petite leisure way for someone that has a relatively huge waist Confused

IceniWarrior · 10/10/2020 18:06

Smallest person on thread so far. Size 6-8, size 2.5-3 feet.

Get so fed up.

I would love a proper wool coat but can't find one in my size.

Jumpers like those from Mint Velvet but they are massive. Or nice materials jumpers. I find Hobbs OK for tops.

Would love Super dry jumper dresses but they are massive. I find petite clothing never to be in the fabrics or cuts I want.

IceniWarrior · 10/10/2020 18:07

Yes, I'd love some great joggers in chilli in. My age 15 Nike ones drown me.

Fizbosshoes · 10/10/2020 18:17

4'11 here, size 6-8.
I got jeggings from next kids section (age 12)
And jeans I get ankle grazers from Debenhams or gap, DP petite range also suits me although some petite ranges somehow think you only want smart/office clothes (I never wear smart clothes!)

PalacePaper · 10/10/2020 18:32

Fab idea for a thread! I'm 5'2" (with short arms and legs) and always looking for tips for clothes that don't swamp me. I'm currently looking for a winter parka, I really liked a Didriksons one which was recommended on another thread but the sleeves were long on the tall model, they'd have covered my entire hand and then some 😂

Off to read the comments so far 😀

PalacePaper · 10/10/2020 18:45

Forgot to say I'm a size 10-12. I quite like Boden, but struggle with the dresses as I'm long bodied so the waist in the petite size is usually too high on me.

So far I love the Uniqlo coat, the denim dress and the dungarees Smile This is both good (for my wardrobe) and bad (for my bank balance!) They are all things I've been looking for for a while - thank you everyone! What a great thread!

Justtryingtobehelpful · 10/10/2020 18:54

@nixso29 my sister gave me a midi skirt from Apricot. I think it was a good length on me. Although, it was A line which helped balance me out.

Justtryingtobehelpful · 10/10/2020 18:56

I bought some jumpsuits from Hush in the sale for next summer. They give the inside leg measurements on their website which was super useful. I've returned so many due to them taking around my feet. However, these ones were perfect!

Justtryingtobehelpful · 10/10/2020 18:57

Wallis petite range is great too. Bought some from there too. Ok, I admit I bought five various boilersuits and jumpsuits in the same day as I was so excited to find lots I liked which would (probably) fit me - which I'm delighted to day, they did! 😁👍

IceniWarrior · 10/10/2020 19:15

Kids Barbour coats are nice from Next Brands. I have a long black one. And kids Heat Holder tights.

Fionasmammy · 10/10/2020 19:15

Is petite 5ft3 and under or what?

Fizbosshoes · 10/10/2020 19:27

Justtryingtobehelpful
Interesting, I tried some Wallis petite stuff a few years ago and didnt find it fitted any better than most "regular" ranges.

Sooverthemill · 10/10/2020 19:46

@Fionasmammy yes in the UK petite is defined as 5’3 and under.

ASOS do petite it’s true but yes lots seemed aimed at the very youthful. I find much Boden petite is too long ( not all) as they don’t realise how short our legs are: my inside leg is 25 and 28 is way too long

Fionasmammy · 10/10/2020 19:51

Soover thanks

barberousbarbara · 10/10/2020 19:52

Can I join please? I'm 5ft 2in, size 8-10, huge bust and no bum. I buy petite ranges from River Island, Dorothy Perkins and Asos. I buy petite jeans and trousers but they sit slightly too high but the main ranges are too long. Most dresses sit at a frumpy length on me. I'm happy to be living in joggers at the moment while working at home.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 10/10/2020 19:59

Signing in! 5'1", size 8 and I'm in need of clothing suggestions!

I'm debating if I restart my hunt for flat (so can walk to work), smart black knee high boots to wear with work, last year they all hit the back of my knee, or were too scruffy looking, or had a heel. I need to be able to bend my legs in boots. Goose stepping down the street isn't a good look.

tyrannid · 10/10/2020 20:04

Are larger shorties allowed here? I know some people define petite as being shorter but also smaller all over. I'm 4ft 11 but also a size 18-20.

I'm glad it's not just me finding petite trousers are often too long! It's like they assume you are wearing huge heels all the time. I can't wear heels following an ankle injury so my trousers often drag on the floor Confused

SparkyBlue · 10/10/2020 20:13

Oh this is great I've found my tribe. I'm 4'11 and currently a 10-12 with a big bum and boobs and short legs. I did find that M&S used to have extra short in jeans but a lot are no longer available.

NearWildHeaven · 10/10/2020 20:14

TooMinty coming back to the cardi conversation, I have had some success with the bigger sizes in Zara girls.

Something like this might work. I am tempted for winter WFH

Zara cardi

TooMinty · 10/10/2020 20:25

Oh good call, Gap Kids might also have something cosy too. I like to pretend I'm an adult but if age 12 fits...

TooMinty · 10/10/2020 20:28

@Ifonlyiweretaller

Great idea! My name suggests I should be allowed to join your gang :)

My local Sainsbo's has suddently got a small petite section - I got a nice (although very polyester) animal print blouse and I love it! Just checked website but its not on gthere, although quite a decent selection of trousers/jeans.

I've just made my annual leggins purchase from Mint Velvet, the fit and quality is great. And they had pleather leggins too so I've ordered some of those to try. Not sure of sizing as have lost a bit of weight since last Winter, so trying various. I like that they do a lot of their trousers in a short length.
DP's have quite a good selection too.

Which Mint Velvet leggings do you get?

I got pleather leggings from Topshop, very comfy and flattering 😊

IceniWarrior · 10/10/2020 20:30

Does anyone not feel like a proper adult at all?

IceniWarrior · 10/10/2020 20:33

Mint Velvet biker jeans in short are good.

Arofan · 10/10/2020 20:33

@popularinthe80s What would be the equivalent of these two I.e Loft and Ann Taylor in the UK? Just to get an idea.
