I've always hated my body. I feel like a giant whale. Always have. I feel like I can't trust the views of friends and family to give me honest opinions because weight always seems so taboo to be honest about. I don't want false compliments but genuine honesty. Do I look seriously fat? What's your opinion of me in these images?

I ordered some new boots, as seen in the images in the comments. I always struggle to get boots from normal high street & supermarket places as I have huge calves. I finally found a standard pair that fit from the high street. I was thrilled that I could get them over my calves but I don't think they look right. I carry the majority of my weight on my thighs and calves. I hate my legs so much. I'm 5ft 4 too.

I am trying to lose weight but it's not exactly a fast process.

Thoughts?

From your description I was expecting you yo be much bigger. You don't look fat at all. I think with a toddler it is hard to concentrate on looking stylish. I remember not being able to wear white for several years. Personally I don't think the boots look good, but if You like them that is all that matters.

Magpiefeather · 06/10/2020 18:52

You don’t look fat at all. Your body language does look self conscious though! If you could hold yourself confidently people would get a much more positive first impression imo (and it would possibly make you feel happier?!)

Something I struggle with, but saw recently in an article and has really resonated with me.... all of the advice to “accentuate your waist” or wear this “to make your legs look longer” or certain cuts to “make your tummy look smaller” are all, deep down, saying your body and your shape is somehow lacking. It’s all geared towards looking thinner. Why should you want to look thinner than you are?

Instead choose clothes that feel good to wear, in colours that make your heart sing.

Squintybumcheek · 06/10/2020 18:54

I think you have a great figure and don't look fat at all however if losing weight would make you feel better then you should go for it.

It looks like you have an hourglass figure so check out Pinterest for tips. Things I have found helped me look and feel better is v necks, tighter fitted tops and chunky boots as they balance out your figure. Those knee highs are totally wrong for your shape in my opinion, Chelsea boots also won't work unless chunky.

MissMarplesHandbag · 06/10/2020 19:03

Agree with others. Those knee high boots aren’t doing you any favours - they are too high.
What about something like these - along the biker boot style suggested by a PP, should be a bit looser on the mid-calf.

Oh gosh op, you don’t look fat. You look a 12-14? You have a lovely figure regardless of your dress size/weight. I am not keen on those boot though. Maybe it’s the leggings with them... they’d be nicer with a skirt or dress.

BabyLlamaZen · 06/10/2020 19:11

Your clothes are quite baggy but you have a very feminine figure! This is a good thing!

Also I like your house decor.

Bloomburger · 06/10/2020 19:13

Your clothes are making you look bigger. Start wearing clothes that are more fitted at your smaller points and get a bra which holds your boobs up.

Joeblack066 · 06/10/2020 19:13

You are gorgeous OP! Just learn to love yourself. Stop with the negativity hun, and listen to some Lizzo for confidence!

Namechangeme87 · 06/10/2020 19:15

Tiny waist n curves in all the right places ! I work out to get this shape . You are lucky . More fitted tops will flatter your shape

WasntSupposedToBeLikeThis · 06/10/2020 19:16

@Joeblack066 totally agree. All OP needs is more self confidence.

ramarama · 06/10/2020 19:17

You don't look fat. As someone with similar lifelong weight issues (around my own concerns about others perception, as much as my actual weight) I have noticed that 'people' mostly seem to remember you as fat vs not fat if you have a big tummy and/or carry weight around your stomach and face/chin. Your waist looks small.

If big legs are your concern you should embrace dresses that show off your waist, step away from joggers.
and you need boots that end as low as possible on the leg, they are hard to find but persevere, makes a huge difference. And black opaque tights are your friend :-)

Namechangeme87 · 06/10/2020 19:17

Oh and some self confidence wouldn’t go amiss ( I know easier said than done ) u look great !

GameSetMatch · 06/10/2020 19:19

You look fine, just like a normal person, not too fat, not too skinny just ample ‘perfect’ even. One thing I will point out is that you stand angled forward, push your shoulders back and straighten yourself up.

RiftGibbon · 06/10/2020 19:24

You look absolutely fine to me!
I do like the boots, but I think they're a bit too long for you, coming right up to the knee. Might look different if you were wearing a skirt.

Roowig2020 · 06/10/2020 19:32

I think you have a lovely figure that's in proportion. You can certainly buy clothes that will flatter your figure more though. Long necklaces and scarfs will also draw the eye downwards.

KnitFastDieWarm · 06/10/2020 19:33

You’re a similar shape to me - i have a 13 inch waist to hip difference. The thing is, I genuinely love my body shape and that comes across in the fact that i dress to show it off and carry myself with confidence. I wear high waisted tight jeans, dresses with a waist, etc etc.

First things first, tuck in, knot, or just get rid of that baggy top and replace it with one that fits your properly. Secondly, you’ve got a great arse, so make sure any trousers or skirts you buy fit perfectly with nicely placed pockets etc. Hollister and NYDJ do good jeans for curvy bodies.

Thirdly, relax your shoulders woman! Grin

You’ve got a great figure, now you just need to ACT like someone with a great figure.

IamPeppaPig · 06/10/2020 19:35

@DaisyCrazyLazy I'm 5ft 4 and 13 stone 2 at my last check a week or so ago. I was 14 stone at the beginning of summer.

What are your ankles like? I don’t like wrap dresses personally - too formal. As a fellow hourglass, I recommend a skimming but fitted top with mom or barrel or wide-leg jeans/culottes/midi skirts to disguise your thighs and move focus to your waist. You need high-rise baggier bottom half with tighter tops. Slightly overweight Apple-shaped women in drapey tops and leggings look smaller than they are; hourglass women look bigger than they are in the same outfit.

IamPeppaPig · 06/10/2020 19:36

The paint colour for those who asked, I believe, is Wickes Ocean Drive.

I dont even own a pair of Jeans. Only leggings. I've always had trouble finding jeans that fit over my thighs. I have to go a size up to get them on my thighs but they're too loose and baggy on my waist. And any time I ever found a pair that fit I always thought they made my legs look ever shorter and fatter than normal!

OP posts:
KittyKattyKate · 06/10/2020 19:46

You need to channel Kirstie Allsop. Waisted dresses are your jam.

IamPeppaPig · 06/10/2020 19:47

I always go baggy to try and hide my body. My Ma always said to wear clothes that hid my fat and I guess I now feel self conscious wearing anything that fits properly!

samosamimosa · 06/10/2020 19:48

You are being ridiculous, there is no way you are fat and certainly not whale like.

I love the colour of your wall though Grin

You certainly don't look 13 stone, you look less.

Savemyusername · 06/10/2020 19:52

I’ve seen lots of dresses and knee length boots around which I think you could wear. Boots and leggings don’t look great on anyone.
