I've always hated my body. I feel like a giant whale. Always have. I feel like I can't trust the views of friends and family to give me honest opinions because weight always seems so taboo to be honest about. I don't want false compliments but genuine honesty. Do I look seriously fat? What's your opinion of me in these images?

I ordered some new boots, as seen in the images in the comments. I always struggle to get boots from normal high street & supermarket places as I have huge calves. I finally found a standard pair that fit from the high street. I was thrilled that I could get them over my calves but I don't think they look right. I carry the majority of my weight on my thighs and calves. I hate my legs so much. I'm 5ft 4 too.

I am trying to lose weight but it's not exactly a fast process.

Thoughts?

I think you have a great shape. You have a lovely defined waist and look in proportion. The boots also look really nice on. You look fab!

IamPeppaPig · 06/10/2020 19:55

I'm.not very feminine and always feel uncomfortable if I've ever worn dresses. I dont think they look good on me because I have really wide shoulders. And I always feel like a pig in a dress. But perhaps it's something I should give a try again.

OP I've not read every page here but before I read your post on the first page, I did think you were quite overweight. I say that as I know other women roughly your size who were told that in a medical/ health context.

I am not saying this to be hurtful and I feel a bit bad saying it but being overweight has become so normalised.

I think if you can carry on with your weight loss and another 2 st or so goes, you will feel much healthier.

I'm not coming at this from a 'looks' perspective at all, but purely as a long term health issue.

Othering · 06/10/2020 20:13

Yes, we've absolutely normalised being overweight. At your height and weight op, you could easily afford to lose a couple of stone. Bloody rotten dieting though. Why does food have to taste so good!

ellieboulou33 · 06/10/2020 20:20

Op you have a lovely womanly body with a waist I'd kill for.

I'd try kind skirts with belted waists, long dresses with nipped in waists.
Fitted shirts to show off your best feature, you look perfectly normal and feminine

MaverickDanger · 06/10/2020 20:26

I honestly thought you were no bigger than a size 12.

The boots aren’t flattering, you need to find the thinnest part of your leg (usually ankle) and have them cut off there.

You have a gorgeous waist and your body is well proportioned. V neck fitted tops and more colour would really suit you!

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 06/10/2020 20:27

Your figure is sexy and gorgeous- that's my honest opinion. You look like a real woman, curves in all the right places.

IamPeppaPig · 06/10/2020 20:31

Someone used to tell me I had a beautiful face and it was a shame my body ruined it and that I should lose weight. Especially as when my DC starts primary, I don't want him being teased because of the size of me. Hah. Well, I don't think my face is so beautiful anymore. I've got fat hamster cheeks now. 😂

longtompot · 06/10/2020 20:32

I love your boots. Where did you get them from?

Iloveliberty · 06/10/2020 20:48

You’d be amazed what a proper fitting bra can do! I’ve been in the same boat and realized that floaty tunic type tops or over sized tee shirts only make me look bigger. 😊

doadeer · 06/10/2020 20:53

I don't think you look huge but I think what you're wearing is super unflattering and would be on a size 8 person.

The huge t shirt gives you no shape, it's a washed out colour and the boots are nice but thr way you are wearing them cuts your leg In half and makes them look really short.

You have a body you could style so well! A nice shape. 🙏

Veterinari · 06/10/2020 21:01

You definitely need to emphasise your waist - you have a lovely balanced hourglass figure.

Dresses with a nipped in waist like wrap dresses would look brilliant.
If a dress is too scary then you need a wrap top with leggings or trousers

ScribblingMilly · 06/10/2020 21:01

Definitely try dresses again. You DO NOT look fat, OP - if you've been advised to lose weight for your health, great. But you LOOK attractive right now. What about a shirt dress with a long flared skirt & tie waist? Not UTT feminine but flattering?

ODFOx · 06/10/2020 21:02

The boots would look good with a midi skirt. Not so much with leggings. You have a tiny waist and it looks better in the first top: throw the second one away. Try some more tailored shapes.
You has enough a great figure with lovely proportions.

fallfallfall · 06/10/2020 21:03

well maybe i set the bar low.
you're clothes are clean and not misshapen from 101 washes. they color coordinate.
now i'm not a fan of the boots and would find the look nicer with runners.
you have a figure, nothing wrong with that. its up to you and only you if you want to loose weight. i can't imagine anyone judging you though. being a parent is always a challenge.

nzeire · 06/10/2020 21:05

Lovely shape! And beautiful graceful neck.

Not sure if that’s a lounging around the house outfit, or a going our outfit? Either way, you can do better!

Veterinari · 06/10/2020 21:12

Something like these - though I think you'd suit colour more

And lose the boots - they cut your legs in half

I don’t think you look fat, however your figure in the photos from the front and from the back look completely different! Unsure where this is due to how you’re posing or the clothing? You look straight up and down in one, and more feminine/shapely in the other.

I definitely think you could work on your posture.

The boots are awful sorry, they cut your legs off awkwardly and make them look a bit stumpy. Buy black boots as they will go with more, and you won’t get that sharp cut off whilst wearing black clothing so more flattering. I also think over the knee style boots look nicer on women your height, that length will make your outfits look more put together/stylish too.

damnitnotlistening · 06/10/2020 21:13

You look lovely. Your shape is fab. Lovely bum and thighs. Lovely little waist!!!
If you like those boots wear them. Smile

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 06/10/2020 21:16

OP you asked if you look "seriously fat". The answer is no, absolutely not. Even wearing unflattering clothes, it is obvious you have a good figure for your size and it looks like you are lucky to put weight on in all the right places.

It sounds like your family members have done a number on you, no wonder you find it so hard to love your body. You probably won't believe all these comments but I really hope you can try to take them at face value.

Someone upthread suggested joining the Style Sisterhood facebook group and I think that is a great idea. You will see lots of people post their very normal bodies in normal clothes. If you posted these pics in there then you would get so many positive comments but also suggestions on how to dress for your body. For one thing, the striped top ends at your widest point which draws attention to it. If you tucked it in you would look slimmer. For jeans, I know that Next and Levis do jeans specifically for hourglass figures, or you can buy them to fit your legs and get them cheaply tailored to fit your waist. So much more flattering than leggings.

Finally, the current trend for maxi dresses seems to me the ideal way to cover up your legs if you want to. If you keep the boots, then wearing them with long dresses would look great. (But not with trousers!)

And always always wear something fitted on the waist! (Tucked top, belted dress, etc)

buckeejit · 06/10/2020 21:26

You look amazing! The boots are awful though. I agree about being comfy while accentuating your best bits.

It starts early with the fat shaming & I think it does lead to a unhealthy cycle. I think it should be explained to children that making comments about other people's bodies, like 'mummy's fat bum' isn't nice, (although I've met many parents who find it funny or encourage it). Peppa pig & 'daddy's fat tummy' is something I find really frustrating!
I'm a childminder & a 7 year old child who started with me told my 5 year old dd that she was fat. She's not, although she is tall for her age but in proportion. It made me feel so sad and brought back awful memories from when I was a child & a few people commented, which made me feel that everyone else was thinking I was fat and looking back at photos, I was a normal sized child!

Anyway, I'd recommend getting your colours & style 'done' to boost your confidence & give you some direction on what you'll feel and look good in. Good luck!

purplesky18 · 06/10/2020 21:27

I think you are not going to find what you are looking for from this thread, people can compliment you but it sounds like you have horrifically low self esteem. You aren’t going to listen to a bunch of strangers tell you that you are definitely not fat if you don’t believe it yourself. You look great btw, I am a lot bigger than you with a similar figure shape, hourglass waist with wider legs and bottom. I still do not consider myself ‘fat’. You should dress better for your size however, try high waisted bottoms and a dramatic blouse with a french tuck, then those boots would look great. I strongly encourage getting help with the confidence issue first however, there are loads of workshops that can help you.

Griefmonster · 06/10/2020 21:30

I agree with PP who said you could work on your posture (I would try pilates as an overall body awareness/strengthenr) also a PP who li led to a lovely photo of a woman in jeans, white shirt and ankle booties with a pink cover up thing. I love the style and colours of that pic but I think the proportions are maybe a bit wrong for OP. I think you could do with either a shorter top with a longer opencover up (if layering) to get a glimpse of that enviable hourglass. I would go with a boyfriend cut jeans not skinnies. Or the wide leg, high waist trousers in a heavy cotton twill or similar. Then a shorter, more fitted or at least structured top. Definitely more colour and shape.

Ditch the boots. I've been there and tried and they just don't work on most people unless they are for pure practicality (as in actual horse riding). Ankle boots all the way. Or trainers.

londontobristol · 06/10/2020 21:52

You want genuine honesty - Here goes
You do look overweight but certainly not obese And a very normal weight
You do not however look "fat"
You have an amazing figure
You are 100% not a whale
The weight you do have works really well on you - you have a gorgeous sexy shape and you don't look flabby
Women who weigh less than you in many cases would not have your shape therefore the weight you are works very well on you and is very attractive
Take the style advice and ditch the boots
Yes if you want to, lose weight but you are very attractive as you are.

ThisIsAQuestion · 06/10/2020 22:41

Just wanted to say you look lovely OP Smile
If you're nervous about dresses but comfortable in leggings, why not try a tunic or dress over leggings? Short and fitted to your waist will show off your figure.
