I've always hated my body. I feel like a giant whale. Always have. I feel like I can't trust the views of friends and family to give me honest opinions because weight always seems so taboo to be honest about. I don't want false compliments but genuine honesty. Do I look seriously fat? What's your opinion of me in these images?

I ordered some new boots, as seen in the images in the comments. I always struggle to get boots from normal high street & supermarket places as I have huge calves. I finally found a standard pair that fit from the high street. I was thrilled that I could get them over my calves but I don't think they look right. I carry the majority of my weight on my thighs and calves. I hate my legs so much. I'm 5ft 4 too.

I am trying to lose weight but it's not exactly a fast process.

Thoughts?

I don't think you look fat at all! Agree with a PP that ankle boots might suit you better. I am a similar shape to you and I just can't wear knee boots though I love them on other people.
Also have a look at the Facebook group, Style Sisterhood. Loads of people on there , all different shapes, sizes and colourings. Lots on dressing for your body shape and some professional stylists there too, who will often offer advice. It's a lovely friendly group, give it a go!

IamPeppaPig · 06/10/2020 17:17

@amusedtodeath1 yes, I'm just gone down to a 16 from an 18. But I definitely carry most of it on my legs. I have a 2 year old who says 'Mummys fat bum'😂

You have a great figure. But your posture may be working against you - your self consciousness is maybe making you hide yourself?

I like to pretend I'm Wonder Woman and stand like her in places I feel shy or self conscious (e.g. school playground for pick up time) or at home when I'm feeling negative. I don't care what other people think though so am happy to stand like that to benefit me. Try it! You will definitely feel and look better with the confidence the stance gives you.

@IamPeppaPig

I don't own any skirts or dresses I always thought they looked shit on me because of my fat legs. I've spent the last 5 years living in mens XXL t shirts and baggy joggers.
Donate those tops and buy some that fit and make you look and feel good
HermioneWeasley · 06/10/2020 17:20

You don’t look overweight at all, you’ve got a cracking figure and, to be frank, a very perky bum.

Agree the boots aren’t doing anything for you in that outfit.

IamPeppaPig · 06/10/2020 17:20

@bananallamas A parent and a Grandparent always used to tell me I was fat and needed to lose weight. A friend also said once that I was fat. I've been self conscious since I was a young teen sadly.

I'm a size 22/24 and there are so gorgeous clothes out there. You need an online shopping trip!

lowbudgetnigella · 06/10/2020 17:22

I like the boots, wish I could get high street ones, no chance at all my legs are so chunky. I'd wear them with a skirt or dress though , you'd look great in a short cord or denim skirt and shorter chunky jumper or fitted top and long skirt. Or tunic/button through dress

dudsville · 06/10/2020 17:22

Lovely figure, fabulous waist. Relax your shoulders?

PartoftheProbl3m · 06/10/2020 17:24

I agree, that the boots don’t do anything for you. I’d do an ankle boot with a bit of flesh showing and rolled up jeans- would look better. Also I would be bin T-shirts and get a jumper or something with a collar

PlanDeRaccordement · 06/10/2020 17:24

Nothing wrong with your legs and bum. They are strong and beautiful. You have good muscle definition which I am actually jealous of.

dudsville · 06/10/2020 17:25

That comment is about the 2nd pics, you raised your shoulders up awkwardly. You didn't do that in the first pics.

Londonmummy66 · 06/10/2020 17:25

I am a similar shape to you and also have chunky calves. I do wear dresses and skirts but I tend to keep them knee length or just below and wear with long black boots and black opaques. I find wideish crops or culottes with a high heeled sock boot that goes up under the hem works quite well on me - this gives the impression of long legs.

I have big boobs - probably a bit bigger than yours and like you a hollow back. This means that anything loose adds a couple of dress sizes - try and get something that clings a bit below the bust to show that you dip in there. I have some nice rib knit henley t shirts from Gap that look good over a tight fitting vest top.

PartoftheProbl3m · 06/10/2020 17:26

I’m going to break the mould here. Why not join a slimming club or something and just do it? Lose the weight. You’ll feel transformed I tell you. Now your kids are older it’s a great time - you can go out for walks snd pram pushes.

Whatnameisgood · 06/10/2020 17:27

The boots are too high. They seem to go right up to your knee and there should be a gap. It looks odd

Janevaljane · 06/10/2020 17:29

You look similar in weight to me. My legs are slimmer but my stomach is fatter and my waist has disappeared.

Ditch the boots and emphasise your nice waist!!

Poppyismyfavourite · 06/10/2020 17:31

there is a waist there - you need something that accentuates it! Wrap dress maybe? V neck is flattering and the wrap-ness will draw the eye to the waist. Hemline finishing just below the knee...

IntermittentParps · 06/10/2020 17:31

I think you look great.

Maybe try on some dresses? I used to work with someone with a similar body shape to you and she mostly wore trousers and jumpers, which (without wanting to be rude to either of you) made her look quite 'round' in shape; but when she occasionally wore a dress the difference was incredible – they skimmed her shape and she looked longer and 'neater' somehow. If I remember right, the style of them was quite straight, sort of sheaths, but not super-fitted. But maybe try a few styles.

And as far as tops go, I agree with pps the more fitted one looks better on you.
I'm afraid I agree the boots are not super-flattering either, but I think that's because you've got them on with trousers and IMO long boots go better with dresses/skirts. As for the fit of them, the fact is people are all different shapes and sizes and 'standard' cuts of clothes and shoes just don't work for a lot of people. I have lanky legs and often feel that boots 'gape' too much round my legs and look like I'm a child with Dad's wellies on Grin Don't sweat it!

Savemyusername · 06/10/2020 17:32

Yes the boots are too high. They are right on your knee instead of under.

Janevaljane · 06/10/2020 17:33

You'd look great in the maxi/midi dresses around at the moment

Othering · 06/10/2020 17:35

I am very critical of my own weight and much prefer to be very slim, so that's the lens I'm looking through. With that in mind, no, i don't think you look huge at all but another stone off would make you look and feel great. You only really have to be a couple of stone overweight to tip in to the obese category.

ItsNotNormalLove · 06/10/2020 17:35

Wow. I'm sorry I've not read every post but had to reply because I also see myself as fat and people tell me I'm not and I don't believe them.

OP honestly, I know it's hard to trust a stranger, but I'm in the same boat so please believe me: you have a tiny waist, a lovely shaped bum (not fat at all!), no visible tummy, and your legs look fine to me. Like a PP said, the slightly tighter striped top fits you much better. I'm not a fan of the brown boots but they might look better in black? Also I once read (might've been Gok Wan) that us short people shouldn't wear things that appear to cut our legs in half visually. Which these boots definitely do, but might only be because they're brown so it's more noticeable.
I'm about a size 18 and currently trying to lose weight and honestly if I could get to your size/shape I'd be happy.

VenusTiger · 06/10/2020 17:37

You wanted honesty: you've got a lovely shape, nipped-in waist, defined hips - you certainly don't 'look' fat to me. I do think you're choosing the 'wrong' style of clothes though tbf - I wouldn't wear skin tight bottoms if I didn't like my legs - I would wear flowing skirts, knee length or maxi to give some movement and will flow with your upper body shape - if you keep the boots, they'd look lovely with a midi-length A-line skirt - something that hangs from the hips and shows off your bust and waist - belts are great too. Step away from the leggings though imo. and any other skinny type trousers you might have. Invest in some winter tights and go for skirts and dresses.

NancyPickford · 06/10/2020 17:38

Lovely waist, no belly, nice arse - honestly the only thing I'd comment on is the height of the boots! You also look taller than your height for some reason. You should dress for an hourglass figure, it's fabulous and I don't think you look like a 16.
And on a separate note - what is the colour of your wall at the back, it looks great with that white door!

MoonDelay · 06/10/2020 17:40

Not seeing any fat to be honest. You've got a great figure 🤷‍♀️
