I've always hated my body. I feel like a giant whale. Always have. I feel like I can't trust the views of friends and family to give me honest opinions because weight always seems so taboo to be honest about. I don't want false compliments but genuine honesty. Do I look seriously fat? What's your opinion of me in these images?

I ordered some new boots, as seen in the images in the comments. I always struggle to get boots from normal high street & supermarket places as I have huge calves. I finally found a standard pair that fit from the high street. I was thrilled that I could get them over my calves but I don't think they look right. I carry the majority of my weight on my thighs and calves. I hate my legs so much. I'm 5ft 4 too.

I am trying to lose weight but it's not exactly a fast process.

Thoughts?

You have a lovely figure. Genuinely lovely.

MsAnnFrope · 08/10/2020 15:13

I'll be honest. You look a lot like me. I'm only 5ft2 so I envy your extra height Smile.
I look overweight, not fat, not terrible but I would be healthier slimmer and I know it. I was effortlessly slim when I was young so I don't carry the negative fatphobic messages but I do carry the equally fatphobic ideal that slim=beautiful. And that as a woman being beautiful matters.

I have days when I hate my body (when I wear things that aren't comfortable, are too tight, I'm hormonal etc etc).

I also have days when I feel great - when I wear things which accentuate my hour glass figure, nipped in at the waist, not too high at the neck or I look all boobs, circle skirts or even a tulip skirt that skims my generous thighs!

I know that I need to lose weight and I am doing albeit soooo slowly but in the meantime I'm, working on making peace with my body. It is functional, I can hike the fells, I can dance, I can run with my child. I mean, god, it successfully birthed said child. I know it is hard to believe those messages instead of the negative focus on appearance but I would honestly try too.

Sending solidarity!

Hi, we all have a natural shape that generally we can't change (you can see it when you see little children (slim) at swimming lessons ,they have the same shape as their parents mostly-probably obvious but it was a revelation to me who hates my thighs, they are like my mum's). Your top and waist are slim and legs look heavier -sorry you asked for honesty but overall you look perfectly fine. The boots come up too high I think. I prefer them to finish a couple of inches below my knee and I agree better with a dress or skirt. I struggle to fit in long boots too -annoying .

Suzi888 · 08/10/2020 15:43

Tiny waist.
I wouldn’t call you fat at all.
How about boots with a heel to elongate your legs..
I think you need quite long, slim legs and be quite tall to carry off flat /low heel knee highs.
I hate that BMI thing, I take more notice of how I feel in myself and how I look in clothes.

Stomachpains · 08/10/2020 16:08

You have a lovely figure, but you are definitely dressing completely wrong for your body shape. As others have said: the boots cut your leg in half. Flat boots are tricky on anyone not blessed with long skinny legs - I'm 5'5 and won't wear them. Try boots with a bit of a heal or wedge, or just stick to trainers. If you have nice, small-ish feet you can wear trainers with a dress/skirt and still look fab.

lindyloo57 · 08/10/2020 16:30

you look great wish I had your bum, mine has sadly gone a bit flat.

Ffs she’s overweight by her own admission. If you think that’s a healthy normal weight you Need a head wobble
PartoftheProbl3m · 08/10/2020 21:29

She is thirteen stone. That’s overweight.

hettie555 · 08/10/2020 21:38

Congrats on losing a stone op and I love your paint too.

If you want my opinion I don't think those boots do much for you.

I also think if you lost another stone or two you would feel much happier with your body.

I've put on 1.5 stone this year (thanks lockdown) and it's drastically changed my body - I've gone from slim to dumpy - (not saying you're dumpy!) so if you could lose a bit more weight I really think you will feel the benefit in being about to dress your shape which is naturally lovely.

Let go of the negative comments from your relatives from the past, it's your body and it obviously serves you well with your physical job and the amount of swimming you do.

mamangelo · 08/10/2020 21:43

Honestly? You do look overweight to me but not massively so. I just don’t think you are slim, you look like a normal woman. You hold the weight well, have a waist and don’t look to have rolls. Your body is actually a lot like mine. I want to get my weight down slightly but don’t stress about it and enjoy my treats too much.

Being your ideal weight won’t fix your self esteem issues but it would boost your confidence in that you would have achieved a health goal that is important to you so I would continue the diet. Slow and steady wins the teddy!

Is lockdown getting to you? How is your mental health? Do you exercise? You need to rebuild your relationship with your body as clearly it is rock bottom right now. I have been there! I love yoga for connecting to myself and perspective. Also I try to respect my body as a machine.. 10% human is a good book, how not to die another. Focusing on being healthy helps me stop thinking of my body materialistically which in turn makes me happier and increases my self respect and self esteem

shinynewapple2020 · 09/10/2020 00:23

I think that black jeans / leggings probably look better with black boots . Will make your legs look longer .

You look great by the way .

Timetochoose123 · 09/10/2020 00:27

I'd think "wow amazing hour glass figure. I wish my bum looked as firm as hers, I wonder what butt exercises she does? She would looking really good in more figure clothes to show off her shape."

You’ve got a gorgeous figure. Proper hourglass with perfect curves. You might be overweight but you carry it well.
The boots don’t flatter you at all (sorry!). As a fellow shorty it’s hard to wear boots because normal calf length is up to our knees.

Also, I admire how brave you are to post pics here!

Justbenice1 · 09/10/2020 01:03

Lovely bum Grin

Happymum12345 · 09/10/2020 20:45

You honestly look lovely-& so does your home too! You certainly don’t look fat.

damnthatanxiety · 09/10/2020 22:16

Your body is great. The boots....not so much

nicslackey · 09/10/2020 22:18

I would kill for your figure. I also would like your kitchen.

RoSEbuds6 · 09/10/2020 22:27

You have a teeny waist!! I want a teeny waist Envy

To be honest OP you seem to have a classic hour glass figure and I would say you should dress for the shape you have. Am sure there are sites that can help - It was Trinny and Suzannah in my day.
Good luck!

DoorsAndWater · 10/10/2020 09:21

I looked at your figure and thought that you have a lovely shape and look great, then I realised we have pretty much the same figure and I’m really critical of mine so thank you, you’ve made me realise my shape is good too and I need to stop the negativity in my head Smile
