I've always hated my body. I feel like a giant whale. Always have. I feel like I can't trust the views of friends and family to give me honest opinions because weight always seems so taboo to be honest about. I don't want false compliments but genuine honesty. Do I look seriously fat? What's your opinion of me in these images?

I ordered some new boots, as seen in the images in the comments. I always struggle to get boots from normal high street & supermarket places as I have huge calves. I finally found a standard pair that fit from the high street. I was thrilled that I could get them over my calves but I don't think they look right. I carry the majority of my weight on my thighs and calves. I hate my legs so much. I'm 5ft 4 too.

I am trying to lose weight but it's not exactly a fast process.

Thoughts?

Oh, and to answer your original question - no, you don't look fat in those photos. You just seem a bit fed up with how you're dressing Flowers

nevernotstruggling · 06/10/2020 22:49

First impressions are that the loose t shirt in the boots pic is the most unflattering garment. The more fitted striped one in the first set of pics is nice and shows a curvy proportioned normal figure. I would have guessed size 14.

Buy whatever boots you like and try to enjoy your lovely figure a bit more x

Kaylia76 · 06/10/2020 22:51

My first thought was that you look like someone who I’d think has their shit together. I know this is a style thread, but that’s what I thought!

Woundedadmiral · 06/10/2020 22:52

I think you look great!

I couldn't wear boots that high and I don't know many normal people who could. They look great but don't look the perfect fit for your calf length. In my view, something shorter would be great. Personally, I think a more biker-esque feel would work better.

If it was me, I'd capitalise on your shoulders and waist with fitted tops. The top you're wearing hides your great bust and waist. I would avoid tops that stop where yours is stopping because it looks like you're trying to hide your body and there's absolutely no need! Either go lower (so it hangs from the bust to mid thigh, tunic style) or stop higher. A fitted jacket that stops at the waist with a fitted top/shirt coming slightly lower would be perfect.

A slightly flared skirt that stops a good amount above the knee (very important!) would accentuate your waist and lengthen the distance between waist and knee. This is what I'd do every time, with dark or statement high dernier tights.

I'd also wear fine jewellery, highlights/lowlights (whatever makes your hair feel great) and if you're going to wear jeans, boot cut and a small heel.

notmyhusbandsproperty · 06/10/2020 22:53

You are 🔥! I would kill for your figure. Xxxx

Woundedadmiral · 06/10/2020 22:57

The boots aren’t flattering, you need to find the thinnest part of your leg (usually ankle) and have them cut off there.

I don't agree, you need a lot of height or doll like tininess for that to work out. She needs boots that are neat over the ankle that stop just above the widest part of the calf.

POP7777777 · 06/10/2020 23:00

Honestly, you don't look fat. You look really smart (as does your home)!

SheeshazAZ09 · 06/10/2020 23:07

Nowt wrong with your body, you just need flattering clothes. A dress with fitted wrap top skimming the hips and accentuating the waist. Dark opaque tights and ankle boots with low heel if you don’t like heels. Also like me, you need a seriously structured bra that hoists you up and gives a defined shape. This will instantly make you look slimmer. Ditch the baggy tops—they make ppl look much bigger than they are.

KenDodd · 06/10/2020 23:20

I can't believe this thread.
You look average for the UK, which is fat. But I think you already know that op, because it sounds like you haven't completely lost sight of what a healthy weight is, unlike most people on this thread. Don't ignore the numbers, ignore the people who tell you to ignore the numbers.
And I'm not being mean, you're slimmer than me.

PickAChew · 06/10/2020 23:33

Slightly jealous of your waist. I've never had one, at any weight!

The boots cut you off in the wrong place to flatter, as does wearing a pale top with the dark leggings. Having less contrast would emphasise your lovely hourglass shape more, with more vertical lines and less noticeable horizontal cut off.

PickAChew · 06/10/2020 23:38

@IamPeppaPig

Someone used to tell me I had a beautiful face and it was a shame my body ruined it and that I should lose weight. Especially as when my DC starts primary, I don't want him being teased because of the size of me. Hah. Well, I don't think my face is so beautiful anymore. I've got fat hamster cheeks now. 😂
I hope that arsehole is out of your life, now.
Etinox · 07/10/2020 07:07

@Gingerkittykat

I would say learn to love your body instead of asking random strangers on the internet for validation.
That’s not what’s going on here @Gingerkittykat (as well as unkind and unnecessary)
justgivein · 07/10/2020 07:28

Look I've skimmed this thread on the way to gardening forum.SmileBlokes opinion can't believe your asking this question you look amazing, nothing to worry about seriously why your asking with a bod like that.

JingleCatJingle · 07/10/2020 07:38

I’ve hated my legs for years, much like you, but one day I realised that as plump as they are, I’m actually so lucky.
My legs are healthy, I can walk, I can even run on occasion. They take me where I need to go. They don’t need to be shapely, toned or fake tanned. They just need to be healthy and help get me from A to B.
Love your legs and consider there are tonnes of people out there who would love to have healthy functioning legs.

DesignerDesigner · 07/10/2020 07:44

OP I think it's actually quite sad and dangerous that so many posters are normalising the fact you are overweight. It's why most people in the UK are overweight now.

You don't look overweight that much because you carry your weight on your bum, thighs and upper arms- not your yummy.

That's slightly better for your health but you have been advised medically that you are obese so those people aren't telling lies.

You are very much a similar shape and size to a friend who was told the same- BMI of 30.

FWIW I am half an inch shorter than you and weight 8st., BMI 19. I am small boned and appreciate that you are a bigger build, but you can appreciate the difference.

I really don't want to hurt your feelings and am just waiting for the MN vipers to flame me, but you do need to get your BMI down to somewhere between 18.5 and 25.

As I said, I really don't want to be unkind but I have to be honest as you have asked.

DesignerDesigner · 07/10/2020 07:45

@KenDodd I'm glad it's not just me, but no one likes to hear.

EarlGreyJenny · 07/10/2020 07:45

Haven't read the full thread but just wanted to say you look absolutely not fat. I've read your posts and it sounds like you've been unlucky enough to meet some unkind arseholes and now you have massive insecurities. Even your user name... please work on your own body image, for your sake as well as your DC so this pattern doesn't continue.

You look totally in proportion with a flat tummy and decent bum (lucky you, I've got diddly squat). You look like you hide in your clothes and if you had a friend you trusted to restyle you I bet you would look the bomb.

DesignerDesigner · 07/10/2020 07:47

@EarlGreyJenny The OP goes for weigh-ins, medically it seems, and she is told she needs to lose weight Read the thread? She is 5 4" and weighs over 13st.

KnitFastDieWarm · 07/10/2020 07:51

OP I think it's actually quite sad and dangerous that so many posters are normalising the fact you are overweight. It's why most people in the UK are overweight now.

As a fat person in the process of losing weight, i actually agree with this in principle. But losing weight for health reasons doesn’t mean you can’t love your body as it is while you’re in the process of making changes. I’ve been every size between 8 and 18, and while I am losing weight for my health, I’ve always loved my body at every size and i think everyone should be encouraged to. It’s actually easier to make healthy lifestyle changes when you’re in a position of wanting to take care of yourself and feeling positive about your self image.

The OP may need to lose weight for her health - i don’t know, i’m not her GP - but independently of that she has every right to feel confident about herself just as she is.

IamPeppaPig · 07/10/2020 07:52

@DesignerDesigner Thank you. I do appreciate your honesty and would very much like to get my BMI down to normal range, or for now, at least out of the obese category! But just to clarify, I've never been told by anyone medically to lose weight for health reasons. I weigh myself and have imputed my own numbers onto the online NHS BMI calculator which told me I was obese. I don't go to weigh ins or anything like that.

OP posts:
KnitFastDieWarm · 07/10/2020 07:54

As an example - I love exercising. If i hated my body, i’d be far less likely to go the gym regularly because i’d feel self conscious. As it is, me and my lycra clad size 16 arse hit the squat rack every day Grin

Encouraging healthy habits is one thing, shaming people is another. The first comes from a place of care, the second (as the OP has experienced from her family) comes from a place of unpleasantness.

IamPeppaPig · 07/10/2020 08:01

@KnitFastDieWarm Thanks!

I do a manual job two hours a day that's basically a full body work out that I get paid for. I love it! I also swim for 45 minutes four times a week. Not particularly for weight loss purposes but just because I love swimming and it's great for my health and wellbeing. Though I do walk very quickly to the pool so I can dunk my legs as fast as possible so no one sees them!

I read that bit. Obviously being obese is a bad idea all round and good on her for losing the weight for her health, more should do the same. But I was commenting on how she looked, which in my view is in proportion. I'm more concerned about how she feels, which reads as pretty unhappy with herself. She needs to lose weight to get her to a healthy range, but she needs to recognise she's not as unattractive a shape as she's clearly been made to feel.

ScrapThatThen · 07/10/2020 08:10

An hourglass medium with a nice shape to your thighs.

Incrediblytired · 07/10/2020 08:14

You are either hourglass or pear shaped.

The boots are nice but not with that outfit. If you had a dress over leggings it would work - a fit and flare type dress, something nipped at the waist.

I also have chunky legs and find a wide calf high boot works best - next do some every winter and you want them to be a bit loose around the calf. Something like this www.next.co.uk/G81176s10/238290?dp=a&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhumKlveh7AIV14BQBh3txwB-EAQYAyABEgLDtfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
