Please help me find a Scotland elopement wedding dress....!

Hello!
Due to a change of wedding plans I’m looking for a fabulous dress to get married in, hopefully on the beach, in December, in Scotland - just the two of us. I’m having another more weddingy dress made which will be used for a big party next year - an Angelina Colarusso design. I don’t want to spend a huge amount as the other dress is expensive - maybe up to £5-600. I love the idea of a colour - green/blue and something that will waft gracefully in the force 10 hurricane we’ll most likely have on the day Grin. I’m 5’9” and size 14/16. Short waisted so prefer no waistbands. You lot were so helpful in persuading me to go with the “main” dress and I’m hoping the fab S&B bunch will come up trumps with a stunning, wafty number!

I bigly approve of that blue dress, it's lovely.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 07/10/2020 14:52

Hi OP, quiet afternoon in the office so I'm browsing . . .

Anyhoo, have a look at phase eight occasion dresses. There are some gorgeous ideas at not silly money

Poppy8690 · 07/10/2020 17:41

@Phwooooar - random question but is this in Kilberry by any chance? We had a “wee wedding” there and it was amazing! I would 100% recommend wellies with whatever dress you choose!

cleat · 07/10/2020 18:03

If you're channeling your inner Demelza, you've got a whole load of Poldark type dresses on Etsy here... bearing in mind all the actors also wore multiple thermals underneath too! Have a magical and beautiful day! www.etsy.com/uk/market/poldark_costumes

Phwooooar · 07/10/2020 18:24

@Poppy8690 I think it could well be the same place - at Crear? Would love to know more if it was. It's been a bit of an impulsive decision for us just to go on and do it!!

So many pretty things! Those boots! Love this type of thread. Your dress for next year is fabulous and I'm sure that whatever you choose to wear in December will be equally beautiful. Btw, what colour of muff could Maggie have but blue?😂

Poppy8690 · 07/10/2020 19:01

Yes it’s the same place! We had our ceremony on the beach too - it’s a little walk from the accommodation and if it’s been raining it’s muddy hence the wellies! I changed into sandals and then barefoot for a paddle but we got married in the summer and we were graced with a lovely day. If you want any specific qs answered happy to help!

ThistleTits · 07/10/2020 19:33

Have you ever been on a Scottish beach in December? I have and I'd would suggest the warmest down coat you can find.

Lucked · 08/10/2020 16:48

Some nice dresses at farfetch

here

and here

The second one is only available in an 18 but could potentially be altered.

NW2SW · 08/10/2020 17:38

@Lucked the ombré effect on the Marchesa is stunning!

Slip dress and sweater

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 09/10/2020 20:47

Gorgeous pink bias cut with thermals potential

Downton57 · 09/10/2020 21:22

This would be lovely with a winter evergreens bouquet. ivy-oak.com/collections/maxi-dresses/products/buttoned-maxi-dress-red-clay-i114319f7078-r24

@AsCoolAsKimDeal - lovely choices! I’m tempted by the skirt/jumper anyway regardless of wedding. I really want long though with a bit of drama/wafting potential.

I’m getting quotes from Etsy sellers to make this - to make with sleeves or to wear with jumper if I can find one the right colour. Definitely not strapless! I’ll have plenty of room for thermals too Grin

Could you buy a dress to start with & then get someone to add the extras you want? This looks a similar style

Wee bit over budget but plenty thermals could be tucked under here! It could be worn many times too....

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 10/10/2020 17:43

White, wouldn't mix with seawater and £££ but how gorgeous is this feather skirt

Phwooooar · 10/10/2020 20:25

@AsCoolAsKim I LOVE that! I wonder how much it is? Feathers and sea water are a match made in heaven - if I chuck oil over the feathers? 🤣

Love your ceremony dress! It's so glamorous.

When does the cape arrive?

Phwooooar · 09/11/2020 09:36

@Princess - thank you! Just hope I get to wear it one day [and that I can still fit into it after lockdown snacking..]. The cloak isn’t going to arrive. I had to cancel it as it wasn’t going to arrive in time. So I haven’t got an outer layer Shock. My mum has offered my grandmother’s vintage mink cape and whilst I’m happy to wear vintage fur that belonged to my grandmother I’m not sure if I want to get eggs or worse thrown at me

I bought this as it was such a bargain and it looks amazing! However, it needs some kind of boob support but not possible to wear a bra if you look at the back. Also needs something over the top to keep me warm! This would be my back up dress if the one I’m having made in Russia somewhere doesn’t work or arrives too late.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 09/11/2020 15:31

I got a strapless basque thingy with a low back for my wedding, so they do exist. Try searching for backless basques and see if anything looks decent. Stick-on bras do not work - I wore one to a Christmas party once and it unstuck walking to the restaurant and wouldn’t go back on! I wasn’t even at the dancing stage of the party.

Phwooooar · 09/11/2020 16:11

@MaryLennox that’s hilarious. I doubt a stick on would work for me - I’m 36F/G 🤣. I’ll have a look for basques. Also will need thermals - wonder if they come in strapless basque form 😬

So now you've got three wedding dresses @Phwooooar? It's an ADDICTION Grin

Phwooooar · 09/11/2020 22:26

@AsCoolAsKimDeal 🤣🤣 and what’s wrong with an addiction? I’ve got one white one - didn’t originally want white but as a “spare” it was a bargain 😬, my original one in production which I can’t wear on a freezing beach so will save for a party some time this century and a blue one off Etsy also in production 😂. Had to have an emergency back up in case the blue one is a disaster. Who knows whether we’ll be able to get married anyway? May as well just collect dresses 🤷‍♀️
