Please help me find a Scotland elopement wedding dress....!

Hello!
Due to a change of wedding plans I’m looking for a fabulous dress to get married in, hopefully on the beach, in December, in Scotland - just the two of us. I’m having another more weddingy dress made which will be used for a big party next year - an Angelina Colarusso design. I don’t want to spend a huge amount as the other dress is expensive - maybe up to £5-600. I love the idea of a colour - green/blue and something that will waft gracefully in the force 10 hurricane we’ll most likely have on the day Grin. I’m 5’9” and size 14/16. Short waisted so prefer no waistbands. You lot were so helpful in persuading me to go with the “main” dress and I’m hoping the fab S&B bunch will come up trumps with a stunning, wafty number!

Have you stood on a beach in December in Scotland OP?

That could be why there is only going to be the two of them.

The registrar and witnesses have more sense.

Gorgeous champagne cashmere jumper plus tulle skirt plus lace-up pointy boots.... Lots of wild flowers....
Have a lovely day and more importantly, the rest of your life x

Lucked · 04/10/2020 19:59

Part of me just thinks just buy a white whistles or monsoon wedding dress, throw a tartan shawl around yourself, don a pair of wellies and be brave (and quick)!

You could be like a Hollywood star and have a massive ankle length down coat waiting in the wings for you to finish your lines😀

Love the lace on this one

I am now completely over invested in this thread - I would love to be choosing a wedding outfit again

@MintToBee - if that is you on your wedding day I think you look utterly fantastic.

@Bwlch - that made me laugh.

All the best @Phwooar it sounds like it is going to be lovely. Just need a serendipitous gust of wind and an on the ball photographer for full dresss cape in the wind look.

theotherfossilsister · 04/10/2020 21:12

The Vintage Laura Ashley one up thread is beautiful, there are also really similar ones with sweetheart necklines in deep green velvet.

BlenheimOrange · 04/10/2020 21:40

With a heavy velvet cloak over the top, a tulle skirt will skim not pouffe at the hip. I came on to say cashmere jumper and a long skirt but lots have beaten me to it! I’d do a cape like this one etsy.me/2biCAQS

DoctorTwo · 04/10/2020 22:05

I only opened this thread because my DB and DSIL got married in Gretna about 2 1/2 years ago. I arrived the day before looking like a hobo and my DB asked if I was going to his wedding looking that bad. Not to spoil things, no, no I didn't. Even my XW thought I looked amazing. I credit the chap in the mens' outfitterswhere I bought my suit. The tailor looked me up and down handed me a suit and told me to try it on, and holy hell I looked good. I bought it, best £200 I ever spent.

If I had any advice it would be to go to a specialist shop, tell her exactly what you want and an experienced fitter will choose the thing she thinks will suit best. Not that I'm knocking any of the wonderful pieces posted by pps, they're all beautiful.

That day was the only time I've ever seen DSIL in anything other than jeans and sweatshirt. :o She looked beautiful, as I'm sure you will.

Phwooooar · 04/10/2020 22:52

Thank you so much everyone for all your ideas, thoughts and humour! It’s wonderful being able to talk about it with you lot as my nearest and dearest don’t yet know of our dastardly plan Grin. As my dress for next year is more weddingy and champagne gold I’ve decided to go more bold with colour...

So! So far I have ordered the blue cloak and some long alpaca socks. That’s not going to be enough to wear so am still working on the skirt/dress/jumper combo. It’s very difficult when you can’t see and touch things - online shopping is fab but not necessarily in this instance!

@BasiliskStare I’m determined to get my need for a waft in so yes the photographer better be good. Apparently we also get to have a piper so his kilt may waft too.

Oh I dunno OP, just a cloak and some socks would certainly be different GrinGrin

monkeyonthetable · 05/10/2020 17:00

I'm sure many a man would be delighted to marry a lass on a blowy beach with nowt but a cloak and socks on!

Phwooooar · 05/10/2020 17:07

Well at the rate I'm going trying to decide what to wear let alone find it that may well happen! I might add a pair of earrings SmileWink

Wed2be shop on Glasgow does cheap(er) wedding dresses off the peg.

monkeyonthetable · 05/10/2020 19:41

And Chanel No5 Grin

That’s a good idea - a cheapish dress you can actually see and not devastating if trashed. They might do skirts too

You could hang them off your nips on a Scottish beach in December Smile
Phwooooar · 05/10/2020 21:46

@Lonny what a jolly good idea! I could have an embellished muff too! Grin

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 05/10/2020 21:47

I’ve always wanted a furry muff

Squiz81 · 05/10/2020 22:06

Could you get a white one in the style you like and dye it a more dramatic colour? 🤔

WouldBeGood · 05/10/2020 22:36

To be like Anna Karenina. Though she’s a poor role model for marriage come to think of it

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 05/10/2020 22:46

Oh my Christ, why didn't we think of a muff?! That has to happen.

DobbleWobble · 06/10/2020 07:27

How about something like this:
www.jjshouse.co.uk/A-Line-V-Neck-Floor-Length-Chiffon-Evening-Dress-017153653-g153653#/

I am a similar shape to you and expect this style would work with an hourglass figure. It comes in lots of colours so you could choose something to contrast with that blue cloak.

Loving this thread, your wedding will be fabulous x

Phwooooar · 06/10/2020 08:41

@Lonny when did you last see or visit a muff shop?

OP posts:
Phwooooar · 06/10/2020 08:45

@DobbleWobble I know that makes sense - and with the choice of colours - but I was hoping to find something more individual and not mass produced. I know that sounds silly (and I’m hardly going to bump into anyone wearing similar on the day 🤣🤣) but I want it to be more “me” like my original dress. It’s a good back up option in one of the blue shades though

OP posts:
Phwooooar · 06/10/2020 08:46

@Squiz81 that conjures up an image of vats of dye and my pathetic attempts at tye dying t shirts in my teens 🤣. BUT, it could be done if I found a fabric that dyes well!
