Please help me find a Scotland elopement wedding dress....!

Hello!
Due to a change of wedding plans I’m looking for a fabulous dress to get married in, hopefully on the beach, in December, in Scotland - just the two of us. I’m having another more weddingy dress made which will be used for a big party next year - an Angelina Colarusso design. I don’t want to spend a huge amount as the other dress is expensive - maybe up to £5-600. I love the idea of a colour - green/blue and something that will waft gracefully in the force 10 hurricane we’ll most likely have on the day Grin. I’m 5’9” and size 14/16. Short waisted so prefer no waistbands. You lot were so helpful in persuading me to go with the “main” dress and I’m hoping the fab S&B bunch will come up trumps with a stunning, wafty number!

@Pangur2 - you got married there? Brilliant! Tell me more! We’re staying in the cottage...

Oh WOW!!! That is a stunning dress, it would have been amazing if you could have got a version of that made in velvet with the cape to go with for the Scottish leg of your nuptials but I understand you need a quick fix. Pity, I’d still enquire about getting a cape made, a good seamstress could make that in less than 2 days and no fitting required, one size fits all as they say!

NW2SW · 03/10/2020 14:26

Good lord @Phwooooar that dress is stonking! Have you warned your future DH? Poor guy won't know know what to do with himself Grin

Annoyingly out of stock, but do you mean this kind of style? Bias cut is super flattering for curves and the contrasting textures would be beautiful

I was thinking cape as soon as I read your post... the whole thing sounds absolutely brilliant and imo far more exciting and fun than all the 'normal' stuff

Woop!!!

Just had a quick scan of the thread as I love love love green dresses. Not sure how practical this would be in shipping terms but my contribution is this

No dress suggestions but just to encourage some optimism, I had all my wedding pictures taken in a remarkably rare beautiful December day on a Scottish beach, my dress was chiffon with tiny straps! It was cold but so worth it! Hope you are as lucky as we were (19 years ago)!

Your dress is so gorgeous @Phwooooar

Could you get someone local to make you something similar but in velvet with long sleeves? Cloak over the top

MaryLennoxsScowl · 03/10/2020 15:15

Go for it! I’m in Scotland - take a hip flask for emergency warming up! Look at this for inspiration - it’s a dress rather than skirt: www.lovemydress.net/blog/2015/03/richard-nicoll-wedding-dress-jumper-fashion-journalist-bride-scottish-wedding.html

Try Ghost for a huge range of lovely satin dresses, and Johnston’s of Elgin, Brora etc do great cashmere. The cloak is a fantastic idea too, or a tweed cape, maybe? Loads of places in Edinburgh make that kind of thing, try Walker Slater.

Phwooooar · 03/10/2020 15:56

@MaryLennoxsScowl
I’ve looked at Ghost - but maybe take another look if I’m wearing a jumper over the top..

@NW2SW it is rather stonking isn’t it - such a shame I can’t wear it to say “I do” but it will get worn next year.

Yes that skirt is what I imagined - or maybe a dress like that with a jumper over the top and then a cape?

More Nancy Mac red blue
Think they will make length/colour to order

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 03/10/2020 16:41

Don't think a Bombshell dress will work if you're short waisted (like I am)

lakeswimmer · 03/10/2020 16:59

OP I got married in the Lake District in December and had a long wool coat made to go over the top of my dress; I definitely recommend adding a coat/cloak/jacket to your outfit.

Our ceremony was inside but we incorporated a few outdoor things into the day and it was brilliant having a coat (I had gloves too) as I could enjoy the outdoor bits without shivering and the coat was glam so it was fun to wear as well as practical.

Pangur2 · 03/10/2020 17:09

@Phwooooar the cottage is lovely! It’s a short walk to the beach or an even shorter drive. Maybe have a backup plan for if it is pissing rain though; we had rain forecast and our back up was to get married in the cottage. The other couple in the big house who were getting married a day or two later ended up getting married inside instead of on the beach due to torrential rain. There’s a Facebook group for Crear; lots of people get married in winter and have crisp bright weather; it will be very cold but the photos are always lovely.
Afterwards we had loads of photos taken on the rocky hill next to the beach and an old dilapidated stone cottage just down the road from the wedding cottage. Great fun was had by all.

Are you paying extra for the bagpipe player? You totally should!

dahliaaa · 03/10/2020 17:42

@MaryLennoxsScowl that wedding is so beautiful !!

MorvaanReed · 03/10/2020 17:49

Long green dress, long sleeves

monkeyonthetable · 03/10/2020 17:52

@AsCoolAsKimDeal - that Nancy Mac blue dress you linked is my dream dress of all time. I just need an excuse to buy and wear it.

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 03/10/2020 18:09

@monkeyonthetable Gorgeous, isn't it. If I ever get married again... Wink

Isolatedizzy · 03/10/2020 18:09

Loving this thread! Such beautiful dresses & cloaks! I feel very invested in this! 😄

That's an idea. How about a really long heavy coat, fitted at the top, swishy at the bottom, with a really long floaty scarf to blow in the wind?
