Please help me find a Scotland elopement wedding dress....!

Hello!
Due to a change of wedding plans I’m looking for a fabulous dress to get married in, hopefully on the beach, in December, in Scotland - just the two of us. I’m having another more weddingy dress made which will be used for a big party next year - an Angelina Colarusso design. I don’t want to spend a huge amount as the other dress is expensive - maybe up to £5-600. I love the idea of a colour - green/blue and something that will waft gracefully in the force 10 hurricane we’ll most likely have on the day Grin. I’m 5’9” and size 14/16. Short waisted so prefer no waistbands. You lot were so helpful in persuading me to go with the “main” dress and I’m hoping the fab S&B bunch will come up trumps with a stunning, wafty number!

My first link doesn’t work, easy to find on ASOS though. I love the midnight blue colour

@Phwooooar These bridal skirts are from www.catherinedeane.co.uk. Would look lovely with a fitted v neck top. You could always go for pale outfit with a coloured coat/cape. Loving this thread 😊.

@Squiz81 love those Poldark dresses but think possibly a bit OTT for me for a wedding dress Grin

Capes are very romantic

I eloped and got married in Glencoe. I wore a long sleeved dress from Monsoon, Unicorn wellies and a thick woolen shawl.

Capes are gorgeous but if it's not perfect then you risk looking like an extra from LOTR. I love the tartan shawl @MintToBee! I was looking at similar yesterday but forgot to post, which is helpful Hmm

Spotted this too, it's short sleeve, but with the right cape could be slightly more Scotland proof.

this slip is a gorgeous shape and lots of colours - perfect for knit pairing. In fact Free People has quite a few stunning slip options, this one also caught my eye.

Phwooooar · 04/10/2020 13:08

Morning lovelies! Well I spent practically all night searching so have awful backache today from sitting hunched over iPad.

@MintToBee what a lovely pic - what time of year was that?

@NW2SW I love that dress!! The colour is amazing - wonder if you could wear a sweater over the top and then a cape..?

The results of my research - would be grateful for thoughts bearing in mind this is my “second outfit” and don’t want to spend a huge amount. It’s easy to get carried away. The pics are a nude slip dress (made to measure) with a cashmere jumper and the cream cloak (but thought this may be too glamorous for Scotland??) or the same dress in teal blue as per colour chart with the blue cloak and jumper to tone? But now you’ve shown me that Catherine Dean dress the jury is out again.. aaaaggghhhh!!

Can you squeeze in a beach outfit change and a third look Grin

I think you could get a jumper to work with the Catherine Deane dress. Like these maybe. Might be tricky to colour match, but a soft cream, dove grey could also work

It's the last size in that dress so I guess you could always try it. If it's not right then returns are free.

The slip/jumper/cape combo you've posted is absolutely lovely. And having a bespoke slip is a lovely and versatile momento.

@NW2SW I have those pics saved on Etsy - love them! I still love the tulle but having curvy hips is not a good look with tulle. Which colour slip/jumper/cape did you like? Neutral or blue?? Is that white cape too OTT ??

NW2SW · 04/10/2020 13:37

Both colour ways are gorgeous, either would be wonderful. The blue cloak is spectacular, if you were to go with that I'd be tempted ask for a sample of fabric and then order a few silk samples and see which you love. The teal blue you've chosen is beautiful but very similar to the cloak and I'd slightly worry that you'll lose the definition between the two, would keen to see if a slightly lighter shade would also work like waterfall, glacier or blue mint.

It's a tough call, but very exciting!

BasiliskStare · 04/10/2020 13:42

If you have that beautiful champagne dress for next year I would go for the blue cloak which I think would look rather striking on a beach - only my opinion & other opinions are available Grin - I think the white one looks a bit Narnia dressing up.I am sure this reflects more badly on me than how nice the cloak is. But I am sure it will be beautiful if you choose it. Flowers

Phwooooar · 04/10/2020 13:52

@NW2SW thank you - I agree. Will see if I can get samples

@BasiliskStare - that’s what I was worried about! It would deffo have to go in the dressing up box afterwards!!

Phwooooar · 04/10/2020 13:54

@NW2SW - I think the blue may go with the Catherine Deane which I’ve been trying to order to see what it’s like but Outnet have decided it’s Sunday and nothing happens on a Sunday...

OP posts:
NW2SW · 04/10/2020 14:15

Hmm always the way! I did buy my dress on The Outnet and their customer service is 24/7 I believe, if you're still struggling you can always call.

supercatlady · 04/10/2020 15:10

I love the blue cloak and the nude dress - a dove grey cashmere might tie them in?

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 04/10/2020 17:23

Some lovely dresses on Catherine Deane's website but arf at these wedding pics. Maybe not in Scotland in December.

Phwooooar · 04/10/2020 18:24

@AsCoolAsKimDeal - Grin I can categorically say that that won’t be happening. I wonder if they had a handy change of clothes?

I love the second of the pictures NW posted. This would look lovely with a soft grey.
