Please help me find a Scotland elopement wedding dress....!

Hello!
Due to a change of wedding plans I’m looking for a fabulous dress to get married in, hopefully on the beach, in December, in Scotland - just the two of us. I’m having another more weddingy dress made which will be used for a big party next year - an Angelina Colarusso design. I don’t want to spend a huge amount as the other dress is expensive - maybe up to £5-600. I love the idea of a colour - green/blue and something that will waft gracefully in the force 10 hurricane we’ll most likely have on the day Grin. I’m 5’9” and size 14/16. Short waisted so prefer no waistbands. You lot were so helpful in persuading me to go with the “main” dress and I’m hoping the fab S&B bunch will come up trumps with a stunning, wafty number!

I knew where you were getting married from the Scotland/ beach reference, haha! I got married there too, on the beach in 2016! It was August and very cold, haha! You should get a lovely thick shawl or fluffy statement coat.
Are you staying in the little cottage or the bigger house? You’ll love it! Congratulations!

Pangur2 · 03/10/2020 11:55

@CoffeeBeansGalore omg that cape is amazing. Get that OP; when will you have the chance to wear something like that again? Wow!

FinallyHere · 03/10/2020 11:58

Would also recommend https://www.bombshellhq.com for beautiful dresses.

Given what the weather is likely to be like, I would put some focus on a really waterproof coat. These are beautifully cut from really lovely fabric and truly waterproof, not just showerproof.

I wager you will wear the coat more often than the dress. I have one of the olive green jackets and find my heart lifts when I see it's raining so I can wear it.

Runningdownthathill · 03/10/2020 12:15

Oh my God some of these dresses are to die for! That Dark Angel site is amazing! I love the coats.

Cooltalkin · 03/10/2020 12:45

My dear OP, it will almost certainly be wet and windy ( not cold ) on that beach in December. I know it very well as I have family who live nearby.

I was on a beach just south of there on a Beautiful sunny day LAST WEEK ( so late September ) . I was wearing windproof walking trousers, a fleece, waterproof jacket and Warm hat. My friend was cold as she was wearing the same but shorts and no hat.

Let me repeat - on a sunny day in September.

I totally get your vision of Chiffon, velvet and cashmere but they are not ideal fabrics for sand and rain, your beautiful outfit will likely be ruined.

Personally I’d plan to marry inside and have a walk on The beach and glass of champagne afterwards . Then You will be pleasantly surprised if you get a calm dry sunny day And can have the ceremony on the beach.

I agree about tulle and cashmere. A long tulle skirt like the Coast one (amazing price) in the ruby colour and a cropped ruby cashmere cardigan with a long ivory cloak - wow.

NW2SW · 03/10/2020 13:15

Needle & Thread are also a strong option for peak waftyness. Lots of long sleeve options, all in your budget

daretodenim · 03/10/2020 13:22

Long tulle skirt with cashmere polo neck jumper. Ski thermals underneath both with cashmere socks and wellies.

On top a hooded velvet cloak-coat from the dark website mentioned above.

The tulle skirt you can commission on Etsy relatively cheaply in almost any colour. Look at Belinda Robertson for cashmere, as well as Brora etc (not difficult really to find unless really specific about the exact colour tone).

Loving this thread!!

Rina66 · 03/10/2020 13:26

I agree with the cape option, with a fur trimmed hood - like the Scottish Widows advert lady.
I’d have it made, there must be lots of talented theatre costume makers out there who’d be grateful if the work. The cape could be lined in black watch tartan and maybe the dress made from the same fabric as the cape, the navy or the green of the black watch tartan with a full chiffon overlay in the same colour to give you the waftyness?

FoxParty · 03/10/2020 13:28

Have you looked at Needle and Thread? That's where i'll be getting any wedding dresses from I'm sure!

Rina66 · 03/10/2020 13:30

Velvet would be so gorgeous

Tulle and cashmere get my vote!

Do you know anyone who can sew? A cloak must be a fairly simple thing to make?

Phwooooar · 03/10/2020 14:00

@Rina66 - I love your idea but finding someone to do something like that would take quite a while. I really just need to get this done so I stop faffing. I’m still having to go to fittings for the dress I’m not going to be able to wear for the actual wedding. For those of you interested in beautiful dresses this is what I’m having made in a pale champagne gold

I love the idea of skirt, jumper and cloak. Tulle I think would make my hips look enormous as it’s quite sticky outy - I’m an hourglass shape. I need something that skims. What do we think about a heavy silk/matt satin skirt with cashmere jumper? There’s quite a few lovely cloaks on Etsy but haven’t found a non fussy lovely skirt

I find needle and thread a bit fussy and mostly with high necks which are no good for me with big norms. I did like the skirt which was linked to but it’s sold out.
