I sometimes put facial oil on as the last step- or sometimes as the only step!!! Depends on the oil and what I have going on. BTW I love the Grace facial oil by Lush.

Thanks! I think it was this particular product that just wasn't clear - their website says:

Massage 2-3 drops as needed into the face, neck and décolletage, morning and/or evening.

And that's repeated on Space NK etc. so the order wasn't clear (and suggests it's not just a nighttime thing). But then the Sephora website said this:

Apply three to four drops into face and neck, morning and/or evening. Massage until absorbed, and then follow with your favorite Sunday Riley treatment or moisturizer.

Hence my attempt to use moisturiser afterwards.
Oh well, it's finished now, so all a bit academic - I'll just have to remember when I get to the Espa one in my stash! Every day's a school day...

Pomegranatespompom · 19/01/2021 17:25

I don’t know if I’m really shiny but if I put oil on in the morning - my make up would slide off. I’d have followed what Sephora said too - confusing !

Pomegranatespompom · 19/01/2021 17:26

@CherryMargo my ‘why did I buy it ‘ column would be very long ...

ememem84 · 19/01/2021 20:56

Dove cream bath. Done. I dumped basically half the bottle in a bath just now and hopped in. Serious bubbles!!!!

Nice. Would buy but so many others to get through.

BlueSussex · 19/01/2021 21:24

OMG @BlueSussex do you remember the Vidal Sassoon shampoo & conditioner that smelled of almond???? It was released in the eighties and is still a very fond memory for moi.

@Experiment627 I know! I would pay anything really to get that back again Grin

I think I will make a spreadsheet. I should have done that when I went through everything and took mental stock of the state of it all but I think I was a bit overwhelmed. I do love a spreadsheet though...thanks for the tip. And I will add a "Why did I buy it?" column although I doubt I will remember with half of it. Sigh.

Hello lovely beauty product addicts!!!

I have some empties to report:

  • The Body Shop mango hand cream: I think this was from an advent. Really did not like the smell... but I cannot think it is right and am assuming that it was off...
  • Ted Baker lip balm: really not sure why I have persevered with this for so long - I do not like the smell (too sweet) and I do not like how it dries my lips out!!! So this is not an empty but is going!!! I am not even sure where this came from.., probably an advent or perhaps Father Christmas.
  • Amoorra Breathe shower bomb: this was in the H&B advent - quite pleasant when it got going... I wonder of they do other smells as I am not the biggest ecualyptus, peppermint and rosemary fan
  • Stila smudeg stick waterproof eye liner lionfish: so nice to try a brown eye liner but after just a few uses it is done as the "lead" won't come further out... so this is not an empty but a chuck

I am actually thinking about going through my make-up stash and getting rid of stuff that has been open for a while...this is a brave step forward for moi so wish me luck!

A few more empties. Liked everything except the iconic mascara which seemed very dry

22 out, 7 in.

I usually use an oil before my moisturiser, i only use it every other night though. Ive never tries it in my morning routine though, would worry id just look greasy!!

I also have 3 Ted Baker lip balm in my stash, it dries my lips out and the smell isnt my fave. It was a gift though, and i feel a little ungrateful for not liking them or using them upBlush

Empties;

  • Aveda Cherry Almond body scrub. Lovely scent, but not scrubby enough for me. For £30, i dont think its worth it. Would rather the Aesop £27 over this. It did the job though👍

-Ikoo Thermal hair treatment wrap. What a faff trying to fasten this down to my head!! And after all that faff, dont think it done much for my hair. Didnt notice a difference. I did use it up before expiry though!

-Sephora Pineapple sheet mask. This felt quite drying on my face, not one i enjoyed using.. Trying to use a mask 2-3 times a week to move through them all..

justilou1 · 20/01/2021 21:50

I am dubious about the claims made by many cosmetics companies that sell facial oils. In theory, your serums and moisturiser should be providing all the goodies you need. An oil is really an extra (occlusive) layer over the top to hold it all in place, protecting your precious skincare from basically evaporating in heated environments and when you go outside in the cold. I’m not one to think you need a super-luxurious, expensive oil for this purpose (because it’s not really adding nutrients, etc...) Just find one with a texture you like and see how you go! I would read the ingredients list of the expensive oils and assume that you’re reacting to the texture of the first ingredient as the carrier oil (maybe mixed with the second) and then the fragrance. The “nutrients” referred to in oils are very rarely absorbed by the skin. (Ingested if you’re talking about fish oil, etc...) If you find your moisturizer is evaporating overnight, you can get the same result (in theory) with a small dab of Vaseline. (I wouldn’t enjoy that at all.)

BookShark · 20/01/2021 22:46

BlueSussex a spreadsheet is vital! I have a second tab for when I've used things up, with a repurchase column against it. Otherwise I'll forget what I did/didn't like by the time I come to repurchase or get sucked into a minimum spend GWP deal

justilou1 · 21/01/2021 01:25

Three empties today! One sachet of Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm:- I’m glad I didn’t sell a kidney to buy a pot of this! It’s okay, but not as effective as I would have expected for that kind of price, plus it didn’t emulsify very well, wash off easily, and the scent of eucalyptus, which being Aussie, I quite like, is really quite overwhelming. Also suspect it could be irritating if used every day. No Two was the Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask Mousse. This was great! I rarely mask, but this is the most effective mask I have ever owned! It contains salicylic acid and lots of hardcore clay. Whenever I feel congested, this seems to unclog ze pores quick smart. I have already repurchased, but the 2X stronger format, as I tend to multi-mask, with this on the chin and nose and a hydrating mask everywhere else. (If I have one. Today is just thick moisturiser 🤪) Third empty is Oral B Diamond White Toothpaste. Pretty much the same as every other Oral B whitening toothpaste. I buy whatever’s cheapest and likely to help get coffee stains off my fangs. Ooooh... forgot... I have switched brands with deodorant to Dove men’s clinical strength “clean fresh” scent and finished one of those too. I wouldn’t rely on it for the 96 hours of anti-perspirant power it claims to have, but it smells nicer than the fake, aldehydic florals they seem to insist women MUST love to mask their pit-stink here. (Also men’s deodorant, razors, shaving lotions, etc approximately 30% cheaper in chemists here - pink tax???) I have finished that this morning and am going to hunt the men’s section for another new one.

Experiment627 · 21/01/2021 07:44

@justilou1 very interesting what you say about facial oils - I basically use mine to protect my skin for the nursery drop off in the morning - then I come hole and cleanse etc - I have only started doing this this winter - it is still dark (so no need for SPF) and it is blooming cold!!!!

I am normally a fan of spreadsheets but I am not feeling it for my stash... although I have started to catalouge products which I like in more detail- for my Etsy shop!!!!!

It is an outrage about how the prices of men and women's toiletries differ!! @justilou1 I may well try a men's deodorant next time I need to buy.
And don't get me started on the fact that tampons and pads have tax on them as they are considered luxury items 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Oh I am planning a mega s/sheet with tabs for each product!!! Will have loads of comments don't worry.

I will probably do one for my clothes too.

Fuck all else to do is there? Grin

Experiment627 · 21/01/2021 12:53

@BlueSussex I started catalouging my clothes in Pureple - which gives outfit suggestions too...

@Experiment627 you'll be glad to know that the VAT on sanitary products was removed in the uk on 1 January. 😊

LivingDeadGirlUK · 21/01/2021 15:55

Baylis and harding manderin soap finished, pretty drying and not very scented. Moving onto a radox shower gel.

I am not quite there... but nearly! @Ponks that is a lot of VAT you are owed back.

ememem84 · 21/01/2021 21:56

Eyeko mascara gone. Hated this. Was in the M&S beauty box. Won’t repurchase.

Another good reason for switching to reuseable pads - no vat.

The pink tax thing winds me up. Dhs deodourant has the same ingredients as mine. But. Mine is more spendy. May buy a mans one next.

Same with shampoo etc.

Caggie09 · 22/01/2021 13:20

26 out, 10 in.

Thats a good idea, might try a mans deodrant next! Ive just topped up on my Mitchums though, so wont be fir a while!

-SGX NYC Dry shampoo. Its okay, im quite lazy and wash my hair twice a week. So i quite like it when my dry shampoo tides me over for two days.. I find by the end of the day my hair starts looking oil slick again. Its a no from me!

  • Sephora Shea body butter. I never looked foward to using this, the scent wasnt the nicest. I found it too thick, and i like it thick! Took a while to sink in too. Just wasnt an enjoyable product for me..
  • By Terry Baume De Rose Lipbalm (gwp) I prefered it in the applicator form, like a gloss rather than the pot. Sometimes my lips felt a little dry in the morning too. Not sure its worth £40 at all.. Using a Malin & Goetz for £12 at the mo, and much prefer..
-Dr Roebucks Collagen boosting serum. I much prefer the texture of this hydrating serum to the typical sticky liquid. It doesnt pill with other serums, not greasy and sinks in perfectly. My only con is the packaging, the pump is hard to push down, so the harder you push, too much comes out. Which is wasteful, and i want my moneys worth! Ill repurchase when i can find a UK stockist, as seems to be discon over here in the uk!
CherryMargo · 22/01/2021 20:04

@BlueSussex making a spreadsheet for clothes is a great idea 👍 Last February I made an inventory of all of my clothes, shoes, bags and accessories, and the results shocked awakened me 👀 Since June I’ve been on a total no-buy.

@Experiment627 I’m definitely getting a closet management app later this year!

QueenPawPaws · 22/01/2021 20:13

@Experiment627 I like the men's dove deo
