Is my new dress really that bad?

I've been eyeing this dress up for ages but it was £50 so never purchased, I bagged it in the sale yesterday for £22. I love it, I've got black heeled sock boots that can dress it up a little, black ankle boots (optional tights) for casual wear. Can wear it with, without a belt. With or without a denim jacket. Might even get away with trainers. It seemed really versatile. I'm mid twenties and a size 8 if that matters.

Anyway my dickhead husband hates it and has ruined it for me. Says it looks like it belongs to a grandad. I feel a bit sad because of how long I've wanted it.

Opinions?

Well I'm 52 and think it's awful so probably nice if you are 20s.

Onlythepoets · 30/08/2020 21:49

Not keen sorry.

ReallyLazy · 30/08/2020 21:49

Mid 20s, size 8? You can wear whatever you want!

Joopy · 30/08/2020 21:50

We need a photo of you wearing it!!!

joystir59 · 30/08/2020 21:50

I'm really not keen (I'm being polite)

MoverOfPaper · 30/08/2020 21:50

I love it. I think it’s a bargain and very versatile.
I’d not worry about what anyone else thinks but if you asked his opinion then you certainly got it! It’s only an opinion though.
Enjoy your dress and it will look fab with trainers.

Nodney · 30/08/2020 21:50

If you like it OP you should get it. Never mind what your husband thinks (nor anyone else actually!).

RhymesWithOrange · 30/08/2020 21:51

It's hideous but sounds like you'd look good in a potato sack so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Veterinari · 30/08/2020 21:51

Can we see you wearing it OP? I think it's a bit of a marmite dress but could look v cool on the right person

Lucygucy · 30/08/2020 21:52

I like the style but not the colours. But if you like it and it makes you feel good then wear it.
I'm sure if I was mid 20's and a size 8 I would wear it!

Palavah · 30/08/2020 21:52

If you don't iwn ar least one liece of clothing that you love but your OH hates then one of you isn't noticing what you wear. Make sure you get plenty of wear out of it when you're out without him, and if he tries to comment on it just ask him whether he's putting out a new collection this year.

trinity0097 · 30/08/2020 21:52

Personally I think it’s awful. Too short, too weird!

PegasusReturns · 30/08/2020 21:52

It’s awful - sorry.

You could do much much better.

PickAChew · 30/08/2020 21:53

I'd probably wear it with jeans, rather than as a dress.

My 70-odd year old father wouldn't be seen dead in it. It's not a brown checked shirt and wouldn't go with his brown slacks :o

Notapheasantplucker · 30/08/2020 21:53

I like it

DerbyshireGirly · 30/08/2020 21:54

No no no no no no no

Mylittlepony374 · 30/08/2020 21:54

If I was mid 20s and a size 8 I'd wear it.
I like it. I know my husband would hate it.

CoronaBollox · 30/08/2020 21:54

I like it

Iamthewombat · 30/08/2020 21:54

You can do better than that. I too am being polite.

Are you bothered because your husband thinks you have bad taste or because the frock is an anticlimax?

DramaAlpaca · 30/08/2020 21:55

I hate it, but if you like it and feel good in it that's what matters.

However, I know what you mean about something you like being ruined for you if your DH doesn't like it. My DH only ever comments negatively if he really, really hates something so when he does I listen.

Moo31 · 30/08/2020 21:56

I'm mid 30s and wouldn't wear it - I couldn't pull it off. If you have the confidence to pull it off then go for it!

Londoner90 · 30/08/2020 21:56

It looks great. I’m similar age as you and same size. I like it and would wear it, probably with a belt though ☺️

Groundhogdayzz · 30/08/2020 21:57

Love it, you’ll look fab in it if size 8 and it looks comfy without being overly dressy. I’d probably wear it over tights/black leggings in winter for a warmth.

SwedishEdith · 30/08/2020 21:57

I like it!

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 30/08/2020 21:57

Not keen on it at all tbh. Sorry OP. I think there's a reason why it was so heavily discounted. Saying all that - 1/2 and 1/2 looks are apparently on trend this season
