Is my new dress really that bad?

I've been eyeing this dress up for ages but it was £50 so never purchased, I bagged it in the sale yesterday for £22. I love it, I've got black heeled sock boots that can dress it up a little, black ankle boots (optional tights) for casual wear. Can wear it with, without a belt. With or without a denim jacket. Might even get away with trainers. It seemed really versatile. I'm mid twenties and a size 8 if that matters.

Anyway my dickhead husband hates it and has ruined it for me. Says it looks like it belongs to a grandad. I feel a bit sad because of how long I've wanted it.

Opinions?

OP I'm the same age and size and I love it. would style exactly the same as you've said you would.

inappropriateraspberry · 30/08/2020 22:41

Not my choice, but I can picture it looking good on the right person.

BottomOfMyPencilCase · 30/08/2020 22:42

I quite like mismatched dresses and have one. My DH doesn't like it and my DM always looks at me oddly when I wear it but, if anything, that just adds to my enjoyment. Only true fashionistas can see the beauty in them Grin Wink I hope you love it when it arrives.

YellowEllis · 30/08/2020 22:42

I bought nearly £200 worth of stuff for £90 so I'm pretty happy which almost guarantees I'll hate everything I bought when it arrived Grin

I must be a dickhead too then, because that is beyond hideous! I even went urgh! out loud when it showed up on the screen. I've seen some terrible dresses before, but that really defines the word hideous to a T ...or H.

PufferFish · 30/08/2020 22:43

It's not my thing - but then if I was a size 8 I'd probably go everywhere in a bikini (grin)

SentientAndCognisant · 30/08/2020 22:44

What site are you on?asos?

rorosemary · 30/08/2020 22:44

I really don't like the colours, reminds me of 70s workman shirts. But I'm 41 and not very fashionable so it might be my age showing.

I did once see a woman in a similar type dress but in green all over, with coloured tights and green cowboy boots and I loved the look on her. So I do like the shape.

Peachy1381 · 30/08/2020 22:44

Not a fan personally but if you like it that is all that matters.

Thefaceofboe · 30/08/2020 22:44

I like it too!

SionnachRua · 30/08/2020 22:44

I'm Team Husband - don't like it at all. Would probably look nice on some Instagrammers grid but struggling to picture it on regular people!

WorraLiberty · 30/08/2020 22:44

Well to be fair, that post does make you sound like one.

Over egging the pudding somewhat there.

bellie710 · 30/08/2020 22:46

It is not my cup of tea, but I am not a size 8 or in my 20's! Could be an age thing :)

Icequeen01 · 30/08/2020 22:46

Sorry but I think it's awful. Where on earth would you wear that?

MitziK · 30/08/2020 22:46

That's a dress?

I've got knickers that cover more of my arse than that.

I'd want a bit on context to his comments. If it's because he thinks you should be wearing low cut bodycon minidresses and old fashioned stilettos, he can fuck right off. If he thinks you should be wearing floor length polyester ditzy prints, he can fuck of with that.

If he genuinely doesn't dictate what you wear but thinks it's bloody awful because it is, it's a fair opinion.

xanthippe8 · 30/08/2020 22:46

I'm too old for that now, but would've gone for it many moons/dress sizes ago. I hope you love it, sod what other people think!

ErinBrockovich · 30/08/2020 22:47

Team DH (sorry!)

Shelby30 · 30/08/2020 22:47

I don't like it sorry. Even the model doesn't look great in it. If it was all the one colour and more fitted it might be a bit better.

silverPersephone · 30/08/2020 22:47

Can you say where it is from?

RozHuntleysStump · 30/08/2020 22:48

Hideous

MJMG2015 · 30/08/2020 22:49

@RamblingRam

I wouldn't wear it but I'm about 2 decades too old and as round as I am tall. If I was you I would love it for all the reasons you stated.
Me too!

But definitely would have worn it with ankle boots or trainers when I was your age & had a good figure!!

If it feels good on, wear it!

Since when was your DH any kind of women's clothes guru??

fuandylp · 30/08/2020 22:49

I think it looks awful, sorry.
But, that said, you might look great in it.
And your dickhead husband should try to be less rude.

Folicky · 30/08/2020 22:50

I like it. If you've got good enough pins that will be beautiful. There's something boho, chic, not trying to hard, but sexy about it. Sometimes men don't understand clothes that aren't fitted.

fallfallfall · 30/08/2020 22:53

depression era sewn at home from scraps. certainly suited to covid 19.
i can see it's appeal.

ThousandsAreSailing · 30/08/2020 22:53

OP where is it from?
