Is my new dress really that bad?

I've been eyeing this dress up for ages but it was £50 so never purchased, I bagged it in the sale yesterday for £22. I love it, I've got black heeled sock boots that can dress it up a little, black ankle boots (optional tights) for casual wear. Can wear it with, without a belt. With or without a denim jacket. Might even get away with trainers. It seemed really versatile. I'm mid twenties and a size 8 if that matters.

Anyway my dickhead husband hates it and has ruined it for me. Says it looks like it belongs to a grandad. I feel a bit sad because of how long I've wanted it.

Opinions?

I wouldn't wear it but I'm about 2 decades too old and as round as I am tall.
If I was you I would love it for all the reasons you stated.

tinyradish · 30/08/2020 21:59

I like it!

Dozer · 30/08/2020 21:59

Strongly dislike!

Awrite · 30/08/2020 22:00

I like it. For me, I'd prefer the beige to be another colour but I'm guessing it suits you.

Go for it.

Did you ask for your husband's honest opinion or did he volunteer it?

Iamthewombat · 30/08/2020 22:03

1/2 and 1/2 looks are apparently on trend this season

It’s a big trend for the Swiss Guards too.

Everysinglebloodytime · 30/08/2020 22:03

I wouldn't wear it but my very slim sister would and she'd look amazing

Ginfordinner · 30/08/2020 22:03

I really don't like it. Sorry.

narcdad45 · 30/08/2020 22:04

Yuk! Sorry op but looks hideous, also wtf are sick boots? Shows my age

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 30/08/2020 22:05

I really like it!

YouJustDoYou · 30/08/2020 22:08

Life is too short, op, to worry about the opinions of others when it's something that brings a little happiness in your life.

MadCattery · 30/08/2020 22:09

I’m too old to wear it now, but if I saw you out in it I would comment on how beautiful it is. Unusual, fresh, cute.

doublecheeseburgermediumfries · 30/08/2020 22:09

I like it! It will look cool with combat boots

doublecheeseburgermediumfries · 30/08/2020 22:10

Didn't click on the full picture 😂

ClinkyMonkey · 30/08/2020 22:10

Please don't listen to your DH. Wear it if you like it. My DP used to make remarks like that. 'That looks like your mum's curtains', 'my granny wore a dress like that', 'are those your dad's jeans?' etc. Ha, fucking ha ha. I used to feel very deflated, but I just ignored him and his smart remarks and wore whatever I wanted. He eventually got bored and rarely, if ever, says anything now. He's not exactly a style icon himself.

jeff1965 · 30/08/2020 22:10

I like it. I'd definitely buy it

I think it is cute, who cares what your DH thinks!

rottiemum88 · 30/08/2020 22:11

Sorry OP but I think it's awful. If you like it though then that's all that matters surely?

you’ll look fab in it if size 8

I also disagree with this comment completely. I'm a size 8 but would look horrendous in this dress, as would most people I imagine, including the model in the picture. Being a particular size doesn't automatically mean you'll look good in anything

LolaSmiles · 30/08/2020 22:11

I'm not keen on it.

Neveranynamesleft · 30/08/2020 22:12

It's a no from me. Too short and odd colours. Ok for lounging in the house maybe. Def not worth the money.

fizznchips · 30/08/2020 22:13

I had one similar to this in 1993, I thought I looked amazing! Grin

TokenGinger · 30/08/2020 22:13

I'm with dickhead husband. It's awful.

GalaxyGirl24 · 30/08/2020 22:13

Love it! I have been looking at loads like this for when I'm not pregnant! To wear with jeans and a bodysuit underneath

herrcomesthenamechanger · 30/08/2020 22:13

Sorry it's awful. But that actually doesn't matter. I LOVE a lot of awful stuff. My husband hates most of the stuff I love. Doesn't matter. Dress for you, choose what you love.

pictish · 30/08/2020 22:14

I like the cut, length and overall style of the dress but the colourway and jester effect with the quarters isn’t to my taste at all. If you like it you should keep and wear it.
