Is my new dress really that bad?

I've been eyeing this dress up for ages but it was £50 so never purchased, I bagged it in the sale yesterday for £22. I love it, I've got black heeled sock boots that can dress it up a little, black ankle boots (optional tights) for casual wear. Can wear it with, without a belt. With or without a denim jacket. Might even get away with trainers. It seemed really versatile. I'm mid twenties and a size 8 if that matters.

Anyway my dickhead husband hates it and has ruined it for me. Says it looks like it belongs to a grandad. I feel a bit sad because of how long I've wanted it.

Opinions?

I'm a size 20 and would wear that with jeans and give no fucks as to what anybody thought...

OllysArmy · 30/08/2020 22:54

My DD is your age (early 20s) and a size 6 she can wear anything and that dress would look awful on her. I just showed her and her response was good god no never.

TitsOutForHarambe · 30/08/2020 22:56

When you're in your 20s and a size 8 you can wear whatever you want.

But I like it. Don't let DH ruin it for you. Wear it and feel good in it Grin

Nowhere fancy, a website called Nastygal. I bought a few bits off there a good few years ago which were surprisingly good quality and still going strong. I'm doubting myself now but hoping I atleast like one of the bits I ordered. I got quite a mixed bag of things. I've lived in sweatshirts and jeans since I had my son and wanted to start making more of an effort again but maybe I missed the mark!

Awful shapeless thing, but it’s your choice not mine or your husbands.

Tanfastic · 30/08/2020 22:59

I've seen much nicer dresses, don't even think it looks good on the model to be honest.

Haylsk · 30/08/2020 22:59

I think that what you’ve said it will look gorgeous - plus you love it you’ve said - so fuck anyone else !! Enjoy xx

happy97 · 30/08/2020 23:00

Dreadful

Timekeeper2 · 30/08/2020 23:02

@WorraLiberty Fair enough Blush I do tend to ram home the point too much. Sorry OP.

WhenPushComesToShove · 30/08/2020 23:02

Yes, horrible dress - sorry

africanantelope · 30/08/2020 23:03

I love it. I would 100% wear it if I were a size 8 xx

Kaiserin · 30/08/2020 23:06

Not my style, but what does it matter? Wear what you like.
And let your DH know that his favourite shirt makes him look like his gran.

IWantToBeAFairy · 30/08/2020 23:07

I'm sure you will look lovely in it!! If you like it and you feel good in it then other people's opinion don't matter. Just do you.

alltoomuchrightnow · 30/08/2020 23:08

It's very 90s, I wouldn't think looks good on anyone

Batmanandbobbin · 30/08/2020 23:09

I love it

Pollypocket89 · 30/08/2020 23:12

It's awful, but I have things I love that other people hate and I don't care cause I love them

UnaCorda · 30/08/2020 23:12

I wouldn't wear it myself, but with your age and build (unless perhaps you're very short) I'd guess you can carry it off.

If you like it I don't see any reason why you shouldn't wear it.

WellIWasInTheNeighbourhoo · 30/08/2020 23:15

Not my cup of tea, but I wouldnt wear what I wore 20 years ago either. If you like it and it looks good then go for it. And youre awfully young to have a dickhead husband who doesnt get you.

Candyfloss99 · 30/08/2020 23:16

Hate it.

CatBatCat · 30/08/2020 23:21

It's trendy but already out of fashion.

tara66 · 30/08/2020 23:24

Really awful - did they run out of both sorts of material? That's what it looks like. You could use it to send messages at sea - the old way.

PyongyangKipperbang · 30/08/2020 23:25

Couldnt wear it personally, but my size 8 19 year old DD could, so go for it.

However....sock boots? I have never seen them look good on anyone! I would go for matching fashion trainers.

cdtaylornats · 30/08/2020 23:26

Reminds me of the Star Trek episode Let That Be Your Last Battlefield

Sorry nut no it isn't a good look.

feelingfree17 · 30/08/2020 23:28

Mid twenties, size 8 - I am sure you will rock that look! Probs wouldn’t have paid full price, but great dress for £22

Enough4me · 30/08/2020 23:30

OP, I'm sure you would hate a lot of clothes in many of our wardrobes, and to be honest I wonder if your point is less about us and more about your DP being thoughtless. It is fine for him to have an opinion, but he has been really blunt.

Next time he burns a meal or wears an old Tshirt tell him bluntly it's shit, see him look sad and explain you were being as honest as he was about your dress but in future you could both be kinder. If he accepts you being blunt, then that's just the way he is and if you don't like it, don't ask him for opinions.
