Is my new dress really that bad?

I've been eyeing this dress up for ages but it was £50 so never purchased, I bagged it in the sale yesterday for £22. I love it, I've got black heeled sock boots that can dress it up a little, black ankle boots (optional tights) for casual wear. Can wear it with, without a belt. With or without a denim jacket. Might even get away with trainers. It seemed really versatile. I'm mid twenties and a size 8 if that matters.

Anyway my dickhead husband hates it and has ruined it for me. Says it looks like it belongs to a grandad. I feel a bit sad because of how long I've wanted it.

Opinions?

Mid 30s here and I wouldn’t wear it.

I’m sure it looks Ok if you’re early twenties and/or really slim. Alas. I am not!

Estrellente · 30/08/2020 22:31

Cor.
Not for me, I’m afraid.

FOKKYFC · 30/08/2020 22:32

Good Lord. My rule of thumb is - if it doesn't look very good on the model . . .

Particularly dislike the royal blue sleeve with the 'faded denim' purple panel. Too close to look deliberately mismatched.

It kind of looks like a jockey's silk. I'm sure you're very attractive but I think this is a misstep.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 30/08/2020 22:33

I love it.

SentientAndCognisant · 30/08/2020 22:33

It’s great to bag a bargain, esp if you liked it at full price. good on you.

jessstan2 · 30/08/2020 22:33

It looks like some sort of artist's overall.

Ninkanink · 30/08/2020 22:33

I quite like it. And if you love it and can carry it off you should definitely wear it, and with confidence!

Lollypop701 · 30/08/2020 22:34

I like it. But that’s doesn’t matter. You like it, so rock it. It’s clothes, you’re not hurting anyone! What you wear is self expression, not everyone will agree but they don’t have to!!!

Tardigrade001 · 30/08/2020 22:34

I like it!

Happymum12345 · 30/08/2020 22:34

Never, ever, take any notice of what your dh thinks about your clothes. If you like it, wear it!

minmooch · 30/08/2020 22:35

I love it. Not for me though - I'm too old.

Please where it and love it!

minmooch · 30/08/2020 22:35

Wear it not where it!

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 30/08/2020 22:36

Sorry it's not really my taste
But mid 20s size 8 you'd look good in a bin bag

SonjaMorgan · 30/08/2020 22:36

I love it. I am too fat to pull off that kind of look.

YellowEllis · 30/08/2020 22:36

Mixed bag! Mainly negative but I'm not telling him that. We will see if I love it as much when it arrives.. I'll post a pic as and when. Everything on the site is on sale not just the dress Grin I don't mind if not everyone loves it but I don't want to walk down the street feeling like everyone is thinking^ wtf is she wearing^

Someone thin could hide quite a bit of baby in that.

SentientAndCognisant · 30/08/2020 22:37

Wear it, rock it your way and fuck what anyone else thinks

LittleDoritt · 30/08/2020 22:38

It's foul but at a size 8 in your mid twenties you could probably wear a bin bag and look amazing.

WinWinnieTheWay · 30/08/2020 22:39

If you're young and slim - belt it and wear with DMs.

FunnysInLaJardin · 30/08/2020 22:39

I love it and am sure you will look fab OP

user12345796 · 30/08/2020 22:39

My daughter in law would look amazing in it.

I would look like a deranged sack of potatoes.

Dullardmullard · 30/08/2020 22:40

I don't think the replies were mainly negative, as a lot of people seem to like it.

Try it with a few different things when it arrives and it could well look totally different on you.

I think half the problem here is that it really doesn't suit the model.

Meruem · 30/08/2020 22:40

Well I’m 50 and I like it! Although I’d wear it with leggings and a wide belt to cinch in the waist. You can definitely wear it at your age Who cares what your DH thinks? Clothes should make you happy. I’ve worn a few things others have raised eyebrows at and will continue to do so! I dress for me and no one else.

ThousandsAreSailing · 30/08/2020 22:41

I love it but I love mixed print and mixed colours like that
Where is it from?
