Beauty Advent Calendars 2020

After a weird year, who is thinking about treating themselves? Can’t believe how quickly this has come round!

Nothing is out yet but some places are keeping waiting lists for notifications e.g. Cult Beauty. The John Lewis sneak peak looks promising. And I believe Body Shop is out the end of this month.

Any you will be looking out for? I’m thinking of splurging on a decent one this year — I had serious envy over Cult Beauty last year. I’ve also become a huge SpaceNK fan this year so I’ll have my eye out to see what they’re producing.

My big surprise hit last year was Holland and Barrett — super cheap and some brilliant items. If it’s as good this year I might end up with that as a bonus.

Oh and for those who wish to berate us for spending on this: they can get lost. I make my money, I can spend it how I like. And I don’t need to justify that to anyone, particularly people on the internet.

Besides, life is way too short. Enjoy it!

I don't think anyone has berated anyone have they? Maybe a comment about the plastic but I'm sure we all recycle it.

ChilliBeanSauce · 22/09/2020 15:03

H&B have restocked, just ordered 2 advent calendars online !

doadeer · 22/09/2020 15:09

@Writersblock2

Hey all! Loving catching up reading how excited everyone is about the calendar releases. My H&B came just now and it looks great. It had some stellar products last year. I’ve also ordered the Look Fantastic one because I got it really cheap, not that it’s shipped yet. Hubby ordered the Lush one for me for Christmas and I’ll then open it in January. Exciting times.

I was tempted by Elemis and I use their products daily but I have so much stored up it seemed a waste. I’m now trying to decide between Cult Beauty and SpaceNk for my big one. Cult seems to have more but I have the palette and other bits and bobs. Plus on Space, I have £10 NDulge I can out towards it, and the spend will take me to Deluxe tier for next year.

Anyone any idea if the gwp will time with the calendar?

Last year space nk had those huge boxes with crackers in they were ace! Hope they have similar this year.
Housewife2010 · 22/09/2020 15:10

Latest in Beauty's will be out on 1st October. Instead of a traditional advent ( it will be their 9th year) they are doing a large box with 24 items. It will require a lot of will power to do a lucky dip.

Writersblock2 · 22/09/2020 16:36

@SunshineCake Last year I got told off On several occasions for having multiple because ‘some people can’t afford them.’

OP posts:
SunshineCake · 22/09/2020 16:38

That is silly. Even if you bought less it wouldn't make them more affordable for others Hmm.

EllaAlright · 22/09/2020 17:04

I remember a thread where someone had treated themselves to a Jo Malone calendar and someone came on to say she should have donated the money to charity instead.

Butterymuffin · 22/09/2020 17:33

We should reject all calendar shaming! Smile Seriously - and not that any of us have to justify ourselves in this way, but - I work hard, pay taxes, would pay more to properly fund services, I give to charity, and I recycle a LOT. Advent calendars are my reward to myself for all this and for having had a bloody hard year. I won't be made to feel bad about them. Plus I bet they have much less environmental impact than the mountains of PPE being worked through globally right now.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 22/09/2020 18:09

What's it got to do with complete strangers what you spend your money on, if you can afford it, have it & treat yourself!

H&M are doing an advent calendar for £24.99

Sunshine transman = biological woman, transwoman = b man. No surgery or physical transition required.

But yes, I bloody love a beauty advent calendar! And this year we deserve them even more fellow beauty lovers 😁

Anyone else find they often just hoard the contents?! Or is that just me?!

Lol yes...I got told off for acting like a child when I was excited about getting a couple of calendars and that she couldn't believe a grown woman was being so ridiculous.Grin

ThePictureInReno · 22/09/2020 18:22

LangShip I do! I love my horde of beautiful products. Just looking at them makes me feel happy. And when I use them it is the smell and the feel of them I love. They are amazing for getting to your senses.

PrincessWatermelon · 22/09/2020 18:35

I have a box in my room with all my bits in. Started from last year's calendars and then added to as I've bought extra bits (I didn't really need!). Like the Cult Beauty beginner box!!

DH asked if I'd used everything and I looked at him like he'd grown 2 heads. Of course not!

I love sifting through it and looking at them all. Smile

doadeer · 22/09/2020 18:45

I don't hoard I use everything! I have a beautiful facial, use lush body creams and candles every night. I've got chronic pain and life is pretty hard at the moment. My beauty moments are sacred and keep me sane and upbeat.

I do love Rituals so I think I'll get that plus space nk.

Have people gone big Rituals or small Rituals calendar?

I saw asos also have a good little guys kit if you have any sons / partners in need of a pamper!!

Thank you. So identifying is enough if surgery isn't wanted?
FredaFox · 22/09/2020 19:13

I don’t buy much all year but I get excited about Black Friday and my beauty advent calendars.
Pretty Little Thing arrived today, it was a panic buy 😂 still need to get my main one and if there’s a Black Friday bargain I can’t say I won’t get one for January 🤣

yoikes · 22/09/2020 19:22

Well, I run a foodbank and I got one of the H&B advent calendars which arrived today.

Does that make me evil? Honestly, some people baffle me! Like many people, I've had a tough few months and I need a treat!

I never bought an M&S one but did get an amazon one for a couple of years (£30)

Dailyhandtowelwash · 22/09/2020 19:45

I’m thoroughly fed up and feel no compunction at spending on a posh advent calendar. I have bought one item of clothing this year, and two eyeliner pencils for £2.49 each from Superdrug.

I’m looking at the Atelier Cologne and the Diptyque ones, for maximum obscene spend, as I do have quite a few previous calendar buys squirrelled away unopened from last year. Anyone had either of them in the past and have an opinion?

I have been looking at contents online by the way and found two This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Sprays! They are still out there.

AsPerMyLastEmail · 22/09/2020 19:48

I’ve certainly quite a bit of beauty advent calendar shaming and po-faced comments about waste & over-indulgence on here last year. I think it’s a bit shitty to come on to a friendly thread about people’s shared excitement over something and pour scorn on their pleasure, but hey, if that’s how some get their kicks...

Having said that, I do struggle with restricting myself and getting FOMO. When the Liberty Calendar was the only real luxury one a few years ago, it was much easier!

Last year’s Cult Beauty was amazing and an absolute treat. I’m disappointed though to see that this year’s contains a few of the same products or variations on a theme.

And every big spend beauty advent calendar seems to have the 15ml Augustus Bader night cream this year. I really like it but also adore being introduced to new things.

covidmonkey · 22/09/2020 19:50

I really would like a fragnance calendar but what I have found are way too expensive. I need to get new ones because I only have samples left. I had Mugler Angel one couple of years ago, which was nice but I am but bored of Angel now.

SymphonyofShadows · 22/09/2020 20:05

My Rituals £59 calendar has arrived. I’ve also got the Juliette Has A Gun tester set now. I’m going to try them one a day and see if any get nice comments. I had a squirt of ‘Not A Perfume’ and loved it.

I’m ignoring any negativity, I’ve been shielding after breast cancer so if any wants to come here and criticise they can GTF

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 22/09/2020 20:10

sunshine good question but a whole other thread! I'm aware it's a hotly debated topic so wouldn't want to derail this lovely one Wink but there's stuff on Feminist Chat if you fancy it, I'd recommend the "Break it Down for me" thread as a great starter x

I try and use everything!! But there's only so many creams/lotions/potions one can slap on at any one time!! I'm working on it...and just love getting new ones too.

Oooh. Where did you get the JHAG set and how much was it? I've got a few from the perfume society boxes.

Anyway my mastectomy's set for 14/10 with 4-6 weeks recovery and signed off now so I'm damned well going to spoil myself but FOMO is making me indecisive. So I'm going to use my rituals (big one) at Xmas and see if I can get one on Black Friday or sales for Jadvent. Last year I got the Paul & Joe one reduced right down, but can't see that they're doin one this year.
