Beauty Advent Calendars 2020

After a weird year, who is thinking about treating themselves? Can’t believe how quickly this has come round!

Nothing is out yet but some places are keeping waiting lists for notifications e.g. Cult Beauty. The John Lewis sneak peak looks promising. And I believe Body Shop is out the end of this month.

Any you will be looking out for? I’m thinking of splurging on a decent one this year — I had serious envy over Cult Beauty last year. I’ve also become a huge SpaceNK fan this year so I’ll have my eye out to see what they’re producing.

My big surprise hit last year was Holland and Barrett — super cheap and some brilliant items. If it’s as good this year I might end up with that as a bonus.

Very sad about the M&S one - not doing one is a big mistake I think.

Anyway after last year when I missed out I made sure I got my H&B one early. Just bought the Look Fantastic one as well as I now have to share my calendar with my teenager Grin

OchonAgusOchonO · 19/09/2020 10:04

Just got an email from H&S. They won't have any more on stock.

Focusanddetermination · 19/09/2020 10:46

Ah thank you

OchonAgusOchonO · 19/09/2020 11:34

I phoned our local H&B and they will have them in stock in a week or two so should hopefully be possible to get.

anon444877 · 19/09/2020 12:27

Did anyone get the look fantastic email with espadrille calendar for £91? (Says RRP £130). Does that sound like a good deal and did anyone have it last year?

anon444877 · 19/09/2020 12:36

Espa - random auto-correct!

Focusanddetermination · 19/09/2020 13:15

I just got an email about the Elemis one, looks good

Costacoffeeplease · 19/09/2020 13:43

I had Espa last year, it was ok but quite small sizes

snowplop · 19/09/2020 21:34

I had Espa a few years ago. Every product was really lovely but they were all, as Costacoffeeplease said, small samples. I looked at last year's contents and they seemed to be exactly the same so I stuck with M and S instead. This year I'll be opening H and B and keeping an eye on the JL and Fenwick's ones - if they go down considerably in price I'll grab one of those.

SunshineCake · 19/09/2020 21:48

I really enjoyed the thread last year and bought the M&S one, my first calendar. The contents came in handy through lock down and I still have quite a few bits. So far would only buy two products, and one isn't available but it has served a purpose and may buy another one this year. Not sure which yet but I'm more about toiletries than make up.

Housewife2010 · 20/09/2020 08:18

I've ordered the Holland & Barrett. I had it last year. I didn't find it exciting but I used nearly all of the items. The contents were all useful and it was great value for money. I really like the look of Glossybox this year. The palette looks fantastic.

SymphonyofShadows · 20/09/2020 09:26

Could anyone please tell me Jo Malone usually does that raffle thing where you can win a GWP? I want some perfume so I’ll wait and have a crack at that.

notheragain4 · 20/09/2020 09:36

I've got look fantastic. Eyeing up Charlotte Tilbury and White Company!

Eaumyword · 20/09/2020 10:09

I've gone right off Jo Malone. I looked forward to those GWP raffles so much! They really were exciting. They've now raised the qualifying purchase price so much it's only worth doing if you are happy to spend a lot. Watch out for sneaky inserts of 100ml sizes as opposed to full size 'prizes'.

SymphonyofShadows · 20/09/2020 10:51

Thanks Eaumyword I’ve ordered a discovery set from Juliette Has A Gun, so I may find that I prefer one of those before the raffle. Also can’t justify £300 on the JM calendar

Eaumyword · 20/09/2020 11:13

Ooh please report back! I've heard of that brand but don't know anything about them.
No, once upon a time, I'd have drooled over the Jo Malone calendar but it just doesn't appeal any more, mainly because I prefer more gourmand/floral scents. Plus, the lack of scent sillage drives me nuts!Angry

SymphonyofShadows · 20/09/2020 11:25

Will do. I’m also interested in Molecule

TheSeedsOfADream · 20/09/2020 11:26

JHAG is pretty good for sillage. I have the sample sets which are good value. Atelier Cologne also do a great sample set. And a calendar!

I'd forgotten about Rituals. I might keep my fingers crossed for that one going down in price nearer December. I'm in Italy and stock is sometimes better for international companies.

Chloe- the Elemis was what swing me for the LF!

Housewife2010 · 20/09/2020 11:40

The Lookfantastic looks great but I was put off because 5/6 of the items are for oily/blemished skin. Mine is dry.

SunshineCake · 20/09/2020 11:48

I posted then read the thread so no M & S calendar. What are they playing at? Last year I bought the Formula box too as it was half price iirc. I have requested an email for when Holland & Barrett comes back in stock but now I don't know if they are. One may have been a typo saying it isn't (H&S) and then mother poster rang and they will be Confused.

OchonAgusOchonO · 20/09/2020 11:53

@SunshineCake - both those posts were from me and yes, H&S was a typo. So no more online but they will be in stock in store in the next week or two. However, I'm in Ireland so UK may be different.

Housewife2010 · 20/09/2020 11:53

I bought my H&B advent in the shop last year after they'd sold out online.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/09/2020 11:58

I've decided to get the Rituals calendar for my Mum and myself. It's cheaper in Euros than Sterling which feels like a win, I'm much more used to things being far more expensive in Euros. There would be a possibility of finding the H&B one in a shop but we are not planning to go out anywhere near a shop for the next few weeks.

SymphonyofShadows · 20/09/2020 12:21

I think M&S might still be doing a Formula set, or something similar. I got it half price too. Haven’t really started using it but it’s in my store, I like the night cream.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/09/2020 12:21

Fucking hell, the Rituals website is a bit of a shambles, isn't it? There is a free gift for signing up to their newsletter emails, but the code doesn't work. Then it wouldn't let me sign up to be a member, so I had to do a guest checkout. Then the website assumes that every country is the same as The Netherlands, so it will only accept houses with numbers (which I do have, but a significant number of Irish homes don't) and it prevents me from having my address correct, for instance the number is put after the street and I can't put in my suburb, just my city.
