Beauty Advent Calendars 2020

After a weird year, who is thinking about treating themselves? Can’t believe how quickly this has come round!

Nothing is out yet but some places are keeping waiting lists for notifications e.g. Cult Beauty. The John Lewis sneak peak looks promising. And I believe Body Shop is out the end of this month.

Any you will be looking out for? I’m thinking of splurging on a decent one this year — I had serious envy over Cult Beauty last year. I’ve also become a huge SpaceNK fan this year so I’ll have my eye out to see what they’re producing.

My big surprise hit last year was Holland and Barrett — super cheap and some brilliant items. If it’s as good this year I might end up with that as a bonus.

I may give espa a miss then - I can’t help thinking with limited real shopping, and usual Christmas activity options or may be a good year to get a decent calendar.

Eaumyword · 20/09/2020 14:47

I thought the same about the Rituals website! However, I persevered and was EXTREMELY glad I did as my £59 calendar has arrived. It is beautiful and so luxe looking. Can't wait to start opening and no way will I make it to 1st Dec!
We're a named house not a number too and I just put the street first, then house name and it was delivered just fine. Think my Hermes delivery man knows me well from all the Boden parcels though to be fair!Grin
The free gift code/email signup is exempt from the calendar, it's just for normal purchases. If you bought the calendar plus the qualifying €/£ of products, you'll get the gift.
I've forgiven them all this because this calendar is the absolute biz for the price.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/09/2020 14:57

Glad to hear that Eaumyword. I bought the cheaper one too, mainly because I liked the Amsterdam house look better than the snowscape one. I'm going to wait until December because I think it would be nice for Mum and I to each open our own at the same time. The run up to Christmas is always a massively social time for Mum with lots of parties etc but this year almost certainly won't be, so hopefully an advent calendar will give a little bit of Christmas spirit.

Eaumyword · 20/09/2020 15:01

How lovely!
Loving our can-do spirit of his thread. We WILL celebrate Christmas with all things smelling beautiful!Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/09/2020 15:19

I'm just waiting for somene to come along (like they usually do on the Advent threads) and berate us all for The Plastic Tat , The Mountain of Plastic, The Sheer Greed of Commercialism for Random Tat That We Don;'t Need , and Why Not Make A Huge Donation to a Food Bank Instead.

Well this year has been rubbish .
Easter was a bit rubbish
My 25th Silver Wedding Anniversary holiday was cancelled
My last holiday ( last year) was a disaster
All my Christmas plans on hold
My DS 21st will be low key

I will have a flipping Advent Calendar and no-one can take that from me .

Any Nay Sayers will be escorted Off Thread

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/09/2020 15:20

Oh and I work Face to Face NHS in PPE so I;m particularly aggrieved if someome tells me I cannot have my plastic tat wen I see the amount of plastic waste from PPE essential wear

Leafbeans · 20/09/2020 15:34

There will always be someone moaning, but really most advent calendars are recyclable or reusable, and most people tend to have a peek at the contents before buying to check if they will use the stuff inside. I do think we should all be doing our bit, but there's also room for fun too.

Housewife2010 · 20/09/2020 15:46

Such a waste on fripperies. 😉 There's nowt wrong with a bar of carbolic soap and a tub of lard.

chloechloe · 20/09/2020 15:49

You go ahead and enjoy your calendar 70, you really deserve it. It must be so hard having to work with PPE all day, every day. Congratulations on your 25th wedding anniversary, what an achievement!

There were a few at the beginning of the thread ranting among those lines but they quickly disappeared. I think many of the calendars are not that bad in terms of packaging. The high end ones especially tend to have mainly full or deluxe sizes and are packaged with just cardboard and paper and I see that many people keep the boxes to reuse. In the last few years I haven’t really bought any other beauty products during the year, I have just used up the contents of the calendars instead (admittedly I’ve had more than one). But I reckon that is more environmentally friendly than buying things again and again throughout the year.

chloechloe · 20/09/2020 15:55

Quite right housewife - just make sure you limit it to one bath a week with the whole family using the same water Grin

Eaumyword · 20/09/2020 16:54

Genuine S&B question @Housewife2010 Do you eat the lard, bathe in it or use it to moisturise with?GrinGrin
Or all of the above (*excellent multi use product and definitely eco friendly)Wink
I do love fripperies!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/09/2020 17:03

Good question Eau

I cannot eat or use lard because I'm a vegetarian.
I could put it in my fridge with a note saying "70 this is what you'll turn into if you don;t lay off the pies"

SymphonyofShadows · 20/09/2020 17:19

You lot are a bad influence! I’ve caved and bought the Rituals one now. No more shall I buy. Probably.

A photo of me would about do it, lol! Ooh another Rituals purchaser! I'm so excited as I've never tried Rituals before. I keep telling myself I'm being frugal by only buying the entry level model each time and only going for 2. Except I keep eyeing more up Blush
FredaFox · 20/09/2020 17:51

I’ve never used rituals products, the Amsterdam calendar looks great at 59.
What kind of products can I expect? Are they mostly creams? Thinking of getting one for my mum maybe

Housewife2010 · 20/09/2020 17:54

Lard is multi purpose. Think of Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream but even better because you can spread it on your toast too!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/09/2020 18:04

I like Rituals hand cream, it smells lovely. And they also sell green tea with rose, which is a bit odd but quite nice.

I haven't caved and opened it yet but I'm excited to see there is a lovely looking mix of tiny candles, body creams, bath&shower gels and the odd face serum. All good sizes and very few what I'd call 'filler products'. I'm so pleased with it.
IHeartSusanDey · 20/09/2020 18:26

Love your attitude 70. I can't tell you how much even the thought of a luxury advent calendar has lifted my spirits in the dark days we have had. I won't be guilt tripped either.

AnSionnachGlic · 20/09/2020 18:29

I have just been looking at the Rituals website and am so tempted! Is there a big difference between the 60e calendar and the 90euro one? Am I just paying extra for the 3d boxes/houses? I'm really impressed by the presentation and festive jingle...but don't know which to choose. Any advice please from seasoned Rituals users??

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/09/2020 18:48

This is a list of what's in both calendars. beautyadventcalendar.net/rituals-advent-calendars-2020/

Have a look at some YouTube vids...I guarantee you will have forgotten by December!!Grin for the price, I'd say they are both pretty lux. I would probably go for the expensive one as I just LOVE the little snowy village scene and to me, the look of it, the anticipation, is just as important as the products.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 20/09/2020 19:04

It's such a shame about M&S.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the number of people returning the items that they bought to qualify for the calendar purchase?

IHeartSusanDey · 20/09/2020 19:11

It's possible as last year they raised the price of the calendar and lowered the qualifying purchase. BUT the thing is they had built up such a loyal fan base who would have bought it for the craic, for relatives, for the joy of it, for playing along with threads in here....so they could have sold it for say £65 with no purchase and it would have sold out.

FredaFox · 20/09/2020 19:19

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar thanks for the link!
@Eaumyword it is tempting isn’t it!!

Think this might be the one for my mum
