Beauty Advent Calendars 2020

After a weird year, who is thinking about treating themselves? Can’t believe how quickly this has come round!

Nothing is out yet but some places are keeping waiting lists for notifications e.g. Cult Beauty. The John Lewis sneak peak looks promising. And I believe Body Shop is out the end of this month.

Any you will be looking out for? I’m thinking of splurging on a decent one this year — I had serious envy over Cult Beauty last year. I’ve also become a huge SpaceNK fan this year so I’ll have my eye out to see what they’re producing.

My big surprise hit last year was Holland and Barrett — super cheap and some brilliant items. If it’s as good this year I might end up with that as a bonus.

I bought the Asos one and it arrived today. I have justified the cost by deciding I will share it with my DD as she will use the eyelashes and some other bits that I won't. I'm seriously tempted by H&B one also! Didn't get one last year so I'm feeling quite excited to treat myself.

OchonAgusOchonO · 14/09/2020 13:25

I just watched a H&B unboxing and it looks really good. Dd got it last year and I will be getting it for her again this year.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 14/09/2020 17:52

Benefit 12 day one is out as well. Just got an email.

IHeartSusanDey · 16/09/2020 17:02

I caved and bought Elemis. Watched an unboxing with LadyWrites last night and thought it looked so fantastic that had to have it and I even dreamt about it! So I bought it. If anyone else would like to, Topcashback is doing 12% cash back (IIRC) on Elemis for the next few days.

blackbutterfly4 · 17/09/2020 09:04

I've watched an u boxing of the Glossy Box advent calendar and that looks good.... but it's £99 and I could probably just buy the things I want cheaper Confused I always end up with excess eye shadow, eye liner, make up brushes, blusher, highlighter etc from advent calendars so I'm trying to be more selective this year.

covidmonkey · 17/09/2020 09:35

L'occitane advent calendar launches 19th of September. Pictures available in their web page.

slipperyeel · 17/09/2020 09:44

Anyone know which is the best advent calendar for make up or at least has the least skincare? My rosacea reacts to pretty much everything but I love makeup and body stuff.

OchonAgusOchonO · 17/09/2020 10:23

@blackbutterfly4 - Look Fantastic does have a couple of the usual suspects, but other than that, looks good.

Birchbox doesn't look bad but has one wtf item and a few of the usuals.

OchonAgusOchonO · 17/09/2020 10:23

@slipperyeel - maybe Benefit or Bare Minerals.

Housewife2010 · 17/09/2020 11:14

Does anyone know when the Soap & Glory advent launches?

YorkieTheRabbit · 17/09/2020 12:29

Has anyone tried the Next Beauty Calendar? The product choices seem quite good, I usually get the M&S one, not sure how this compares.

Thesuzle · 17/09/2020 12:34

Actually sat in waiting for my Elemis one to turn up today, having had a few products over the years thought, sod it, I’m buying it for myself, husband would definitely not get the memo !

RozHuntleysStump · 17/09/2020 14:46

I just bought the Elemis one. £175 bloody hell fire. I’m having a shit time though so I deserve it.

Might also get the loccitane one and maybe white company.

IHeartSusanDey · 17/09/2020 16:44

My Elemis one is coming on Saturday. Because it's skin care I know I will use everything in it...it's usually make up that is wasted on me.

RozHuntleysStump · 17/09/2020 17:00

Yeah. I like Elemis. I have an Elemis facial every month so I know the products are good for me.

Spodge · 17/09/2020 18:15

The Elemis one is great. I caved, too. I use Elemis products and the value of the ones I actually want/use comes to just shy of £300 so paying £175 was a no-brainer. The others will be fun to try.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 17/09/2020 19:15

I was thinking that will all that's going on and my Mum being back to sheltering again (rapid rise in cases in Dublin at the moment), I might buy two advent boxes, one for Mum and one for me. It'll give her some interest in the run up to Christmas, which is usually a social whirl for her but might not be this year. Plus we will both have the same products so will have something to talk about.

Any recommendations? I've had the M&S one once in the past and it wouldn't be her thing. Neither of us wear much make up. She uses mostly Clarins skin care. I'm thinking maybe the Holland and Barrett one as it isn't too expensive or make-up heavy.

BunnyLovesBananas · 17/09/2020 19:30

I think I would want the Lush one but I can't decide whether I'm happy to spend £185 on it

I don't really need and make up or body products and I've thrown away so many bits from beauty boxes so the luxury ones just don't appeal to me but I know I'd use and enjoy the lush items

RozHuntleysStump · 17/09/2020 19:38

185 is a lot for bath bombs etc. I couldn’t get that. I think lush is way over priced.

covidmonkey · 17/09/2020 20:18

I got bodyshop one because I have loads of unused make up and creams left from last year.

Pheobeasy · 17/09/2020 20:55

I like lush stuff (not overly fond of the company mind), but they'd probably go off before I had the chance to use them, hah. I would rather buy a few bits i really want from there, I don't think the calendar actually works out any cheaper than buying the stuff (which is a nice perk of most of them of course).

www.superdrug.com/Make-Up/Face/Makeup-Sets/Revolution-You-Are-A-Star-Makeup-Gift-Set/p/797131

Shock Well that one looks amazing (although I'll wait till it's reduced.)

www.superdrug.com/Make-Up/Beauty-Advent-Calendars/Revolution-Advent-Calendar/p/796606

This one is the usual stuff, although I'm definitely waiting till it's half price. Grin

TheSeedsOfADream · 17/09/2020 21:13

I've gone for Look Fantastic which I'll share with DD, make up for her, skincare for me.

I'll get her one of her own as well, but only once they've been reduced end of Nov.
The Amazon one was surprisingly good and the Cath Kidston I got her last year was great.

BunnyLovesBananas · 17/09/2020 21:14

Yes I think I agree. Even £50 js more than I would usually spend in Lush in one go so j could just buy a few things I want.

I can't get excited about Revolution though these sets are often good value.

BunnyLovesBananas · 17/09/2020 21:20

I am surprised there won't be an m&s one. I've enjoyed it in the past but I wouldn't get it again anyway as I found the last one too similar.

I want a calendar but I can't think of one I want enough. A lot of them have some nice things but also lots I won't use. Even after swapping I have a box full of things that I haven't even used since last year.

I've decided Lush is too expensive. I quite fancy ESPA but haven't seen this year's yet. Body shop I'm kind of bored of but might give me something to open for a modest price!

Maybe a hotel chocolat one...

I did enjoy the swap threads but they're no good with no calendar!
