Beauty Advent Calendars 2020

After a weird year, who is thinking about treating themselves? Can’t believe how quickly this has come round!

Nothing is out yet but some places are keeping waiting lists for notifications e.g. Cult Beauty. The John Lewis sneak peak looks promising. And I believe Body Shop is out the end of this month.

Any you will be looking out for? I’m thinking of splurging on a decent one this year — I had serious envy over Cult Beauty last year. I’ve also become a huge SpaceNK fan this year so I’ll have my eye out to see what they’re producing.

My big surprise hit last year was Holland and Barrett — super cheap and some brilliant items. If it’s as good this year I might end up with that as a bonus.

Bought the ASOS one! Mainly because I could get a 15% discount, and because of the Aveda product which I do use and recently bought, for £25. So I'm hoping it will be worth it.

clary · 10/09/2020 20:04

buckeejit I loved the Aurelia night oil from last year's Grazia calendar, also the Ormicsova (sp?) mousturiser. Rebought both of those.

Butterymuffin · 10/09/2020 20:10

The Aveda is great. Was converted after getting it in last year's M&S calendar . Actually, you might be onto something that it's worth getting the Asos just for that.

Did anyone get the Amazon one last year? I had it in 2018 and it was ok. Good for £30 during Black Friday week if they do that again, but I think last year it sold out before then.

allsideways · 10/09/2020 20:28

Love the Aveda product and my other fave from M&S last year is the Alpha-H rose cleanser, so gentle and effective. Booooooo about M&S this year Sad

frogface69 · 11/09/2020 00:58

I don’t know what to get this year. I buy for my sister and last year I bought the L’Occitane, she loved it. But it looks samey to me. Make up doesn’t interest her, she has enough and at 74 she just won’t use it.
The rituals one looks nice, but I don’t think it’s high end enough for her.
I save all year for this present so it has to be right.
Has anyone had The Decleor one ? Does it suit older skin ?
Decisions!

Housewife2010 · 11/09/2020 07:30

What's your budget? Espa, Elemis and The White Company are expensive but look lovely

buckeejit · 11/09/2020 07:55

The decleor one I bought a few years ago & loved it! Great as I could use everything. There are a few bits that I've not opened yet! All nice skincare-think it was one of the best.

I've toyed with white company & espa but not taken the plunge.

I have that aveda product but not used it, though planning to trial the curly girl method now for a wee while

CountryCob · 11/09/2020 08:47

The ASOS packaging being genuinely reusable as storage is a great idea, quite like the 15 day one’s contents.... Glossybox is lovely and I really liked it last year but the packaging is a bit too similar for me and the lipstick is the kind of cool neutral that makes me look dead...

doadeer · 11/09/2020 08:55

What would be best for a 16 year old who loves make up (but I want to include skincare as important to have a routine)

Housewife2010 · 11/09/2020 10:35

The John Lewis advent details are now on Really Ree. It's £150 and the sizes are rather small, but there is a lovely selection of products with makeup, skincare, fragrance, hair & body. The makeup is all very wearable and great brands. It only seems to contain one of the often compulsory advent items.

covidmonkey · 11/09/2020 10:53

Origins does 12 day calendar this year. I would get it but I have all the products in full or sample size and I don't need more sample sizes. The calendar is a good introduction to their products.

Floralbean · 11/09/2020 13:02

Ooo impressed student discount still works with asos for the calendar!

UpToonGirl · 11/09/2020 13:17

Not sure if it's been mentioned already as I've been avoiding this thread! John Lewis often reduce their calendar, I think the year before last I got it for £80 rather than £125. It's a risk though as it may sell out.

I am not buying a calendar this year so will have to live vicariously through you all - I did actually say last year I wasn't buying one and then ended up with the Space NK one as well as their GWP.

Bumbl · 11/09/2020 13:40

ASOS calendar has arrived but I think the boxes are a bit strange, I prefer the Look Fantastic ones from previous years with pull out drawers. But the plastic box thing it all comes in is actually quite useful.

Very tempted to open them all up now though!! I must resist.

frogface69 · 11/09/2020 13:55

Thank you for the suggestions.
I have £70 to spend so far.
The Decleor looks nicest out of what I have seen.

Housewife2010 · 11/09/2020 16:16

If they sell the Decleor on Feel Unique again this year, you could sign up to the free Feel Unique loyalty programme and choose Decleor as your favourite brand. You'd then get 10% off the price.

frogface69 · 11/09/2020 16:58

I’ll keep an eye out.
Thank you , ten percent off would be great.

AquaBaba · 13/09/2020 14:54

The demise of an M&S advent calendar is truly sad, even if I never used some of the products like that neck cream or elastiser thingy. Not a fan of their choice of perfumes either, they are sort of what I think of an old-lady perfume.
I bought Liberty GWP for the first time ever, and like most of the products enclosed. The perfume is pretty good. I took a gamble with the main purchase and bought Eau de Sisley 1. Sadly, I don't like it.
Won't be buying L'Occitane this year, had it for two years, and though I like their skin products, the calendar is very same-ish.
Most likely will get Boots no.7, as I have enough points to buy it, and their skin products are good. I just wish they didn't do festive nail polish, or those useless vouchers for skin consultation.

Parkmama · 13/09/2020 15:04

I thought the Nivea one was due out on 7th September from Amazon but it's haven't seen it yet, anyone found it?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/09/2020 15:13

Does anyone know when the H&B one is released ?

One of the Calendar preview sites said the 9th (which is wasn't) I signed up to the email .

TIA Xmas Smile

Luvacuppatea · 13/09/2020 16:35

@70isaLimitNotaTarget - I think I read somewhere that H&B will be released tomorrow, the 14th September, but I can’t remember where so it may not be happening 😂. Fingers crossed though - this is on my list now that there is no M&S! I just might indulge in another as well - have Liberty, Space NK and Fenwick on my list of ‘possibles’.........

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/09/2020 17:35

Thanks Luvacuppa I did a search , there's an article in The Mirror that says 14th .
I do an Advent for DD but it's getting trickier and worse this year because I don't feel inclined to go out looking for things .
The H&B has things we'd both use .

blackbutterfly4 · 13/09/2020 18:52

Holland and Barrett looks good - I watched an unboxing on YouTube so I think I will go for that.

Tempted to buy ASOS but it's quite expensive. I may buy the Soap &Glory one of it comes down, and I'll see what is included in No7 before making a decision. Still gutted about M&S.

CountryCob · 14/09/2020 07:12

Holland and Barrett is one I want also, checked just now and none for sale although I saw the 9 and 14 dates mentioned too. If you can get a student discount at all on the ASOS it is better value, I want the 12 day one but waiting for my code to come through before I buy it. Cannot see myself using a jade roller so that put me off the large one. Think the reusable packaging looks genuinely useful which impresses me about ASOS and like the product mix of the 12 day to add a bit of glamour to the H&B. So basically poised to buy those 2 but without actually completing either order....

covidmonkey · 14/09/2020 10:13

John Lewis calendar is on their webpage. Not available for order yet. Also Elemis has come out with one.
