Beauty Advent Calendars 2020

After a weird year, who is thinking about treating themselves? Can’t believe how quickly this has come round!

Nothing is out yet but some places are keeping waiting lists for notifications e.g. Cult Beauty. The John Lewis sneak peak looks promising. And I believe Body Shop is out the end of this month.

Any you will be looking out for? I’m thinking of splurging on a decent one this year — I had serious envy over Cult Beauty last year. I’ve also become a huge SpaceNK fan this year so I’ll have my eye out to see what they’re producing.

My big surprise hit last year was Holland and Barrett — super cheap and some brilliant items. If it’s as good this year I might end up with that as a bonus.

@Extracurricularfatigue was that to me? Those were last years contents.

Butterymuffin · 09/09/2020 18:31

I also got a Birchbox notification. It'll be £70 for subscribers and for VIP subscribers (which I am) it goes on sale this Sunday (13th). I got it on sale much later in the season last year, used it as my Jadvent and it was actually very good overall with a few standout products. This year they say it includes Nudestix, Sunday Riley, Bare Minerals, Benefit and Colour Wow and is worth £480. I might have to go for this one straight off this year now that M&S have left me in the lurch. I've ordered Look Fantastic instead of Glossy box this year (gulp) and used up my Glossy credit on that but I'll need at least a Jadvent one to get me through the post Christmas Covid comedown.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 09/09/2020 18:41

I'm waiting for the John Lewis & the Debenhams advent calendar details.
I am tempted by the Elemis one as I love their products especially the Pro Collagen Marine cream.
As mentioned previously am annoyed that isn't the usual M&S calendar.
I'm presuming the decision was made sometime in 2018 as the product is usually in development 18 months to 2 years before.
Think it's a massive own goal for M&S.

Nope, it was a PP talking about specific Cult Beauty products.

I find if I look at the long list of stuff, I can form an opinion on whether overall I want a calendar or not, but fairly easily forget specifics. Whereas when people start talking about individual things, I can't forget.

I had the Liberty one last year too. I quite liked the glossy eye shadow!

Pomegranatepompom · 09/09/2020 18:59

I’d be happy to send mine to you !

Extracurricularfatigue · 09/09/2020 19:00

That's kind but mine is barely used. Despite my love of these calendars, I don't wear huge amounts of make up, and this year even less so of course.

Butterymuffin · 09/09/2020 19:04

The ASOS 12 and 24 day calendars plus a men's 12 day one are now on sale! I'm torn as there is some good stuff in including one item people love on here, but for me they've also got a couple of things I steer clear of.

HallucinatingCat · 09/09/2020 19:06

The ASOS calendar is very similar to last year, in fact there are a few products that were in last year.

I feel so lost without M&S this year, the others just don't seem as good or as good value.

SliceOfFriedGold · 09/09/2020 20:05

Just got my first ever Liberty GWP and I'm delighted!

My Trish McEvoy eyeliner is dark blue, so I'm happy with that. I've tried it on the back of my hand and it is so creamy and smooth.

Really like the Carnal Flower perfume too - much, MUCH more than the D.S.Dourga for Duran Duran perfume which I gambled on (reduced from £75 to £35).

covidmonkey · 09/09/2020 20:41

I like the ASOS calendar. Full size product from my favourite brand that I haven't tried yet. I am not going to get the calendar though. Cheaper to buy the product.

FredaFox · 09/09/2020 21:51

Personally I don’t mind spoilers at this stage, nobody has bought a calendar and it’s a discussion on which have the best contents / best value for money
Agree on the daily opening threads that there should be a spoiler cut off
Anyway I might give ASOS a go instead of M&S
Thinking look fantastic as well, I missed out last year so had Birchbox instead

AprilLady · 09/09/2020 22:38

For those thinking of the ASOS calendar, it’s on sale now and you get a 15% discount typing in the code that appears on the site - for less than £65 I think it’s one of the better value offerings.

Sorry. Wrong thread. I've asked for it to be deleted.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 09/09/2020 22:57

And we thought choosing a beauty advent calendar was difficult 😂

OchonAgusOchonO · 09/09/2020 23:56

I just had a look at the ASOS one. I went on to the Irish/Euro site. They are charging €104 for it!!!!! That is £95!!!!!

I really hate the way some of these companies screw their euro customers. I guess I won't be buying that one then.

Bumbl · 10/09/2020 09:29

After all I said about having a year off, I do like the look of the ASOS one for the price!

Bananaman123 · 10/09/2020 15:39

Birchbox advent contents

OchonAgusOchonO · 10/09/2020 15:56

Birchbox looks good. And no black eyeliner! I'm sort of regretting buying the lookfantastic one now.

covidmonkey · 10/09/2020 16:21

@Bumbl I like ASOS as well. I think it's my favourite so far.

I am not that into Birchbox this year. I had it last year and that was good.

IHeartSusanDey · 10/09/2020 16:47

I think the Birchbox one looks great. Some interesting little products and brands that I haven't heard of before.

SymphonyofShadows · 10/09/2020 17:09

I was going to buy a Rituals one but I got cross that the current GWP on a £40 spend wasn’t included. Still might get the cheaper one though. I’ve already ordered Glossybox so that would be it for me.

buckeejit · 10/09/2020 18:18

I keep looking & hoping one of the calendars will catch my eye but there's nothing with even a third of the contents that I'm bothered about.

There's always eyeshadows, lip glosses/sticks etc that aren't my colours so dd has a lot of high end play makeup!

The red box is out soon I think so maybe I'll get that but am currently slathering creams on me left, right & centre to reduce my stocks.

This may not be the place to ask but have any of you come across anything that you think is amazing through advent/GWP? I loved a tata harper serum & Aurelia night oil-also odacite oil & Dennis gross eye cream, but have tried most of the products available & not bothered about others

MiaN · 10/09/2020 19:04

I love the sculpting powder from Space NK advent from last year - Kevin Aucoin. Paula's choice BHA was in Elle advent. Drunk Elephant - I tried TLS myself and did not like it and gave up on the brand. Tried protini and lala cream from Space NK GWP and love both, have purchased few times. Dr Dennis Gross vitamin C Serum

I like Space NK gwps, probably better than advent calendars as I get few full time products I actually want + new things to try
