Beauty Advent Calendars 2020

After a weird year, who is thinking about treating themselves? Can’t believe how quickly this has come round!

Nothing is out yet but some places are keeping waiting lists for notifications e.g. Cult Beauty. The John Lewis sneak peak looks promising. And I believe Body Shop is out the end of this month.

Any you will be looking out for? I’m thinking of splurging on a decent one this year — I had serious envy over Cult Beauty last year. I’ve also become a huge SpaceNK fan this year so I’ll have my eye out to see what they’re producing.

My big surprise hit last year was Holland and Barrett — super cheap and some brilliant items. If it’s as good this year I might end up with that as a bonus.

Wow just seen there's no M&S one this year Shock that seems crazy as it's one of the few things they get right!

Just seen this link with more reviews on 2020 calendars (apologies if already been posted) www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/fashion-beauty/a564875/best-beauty-advent-calendars/

Re perfume advent calendars I wish too that you could buy one with samples from different brands. I couldn't justify a JM one and not actually that keen on most of the fragrances. Definitely will check out the 4160 as recommended above!

Floralbean · 08/09/2020 15:12

I've ordered glossybox too, I was boring and looked at the contents, and there's enough I'll actually use to justify the price for me. I'm hoping I'd have forgotten by the time it rolls around though so it's a surprise.

LadyGAgain · 08/09/2020 15:18

Has anyone had the John Lewis or a Elemis one? (I've only ever had M&S and I'm gutted) Grin

I always check all the contents before to make sure that I really want the majority. I've had Liberty a few times which I've loved but I'd never spend that much if I didn't know that it would be worth it. Once I've decided I avoid the contents lists. There's usually 6-8 weeks before December 1st so that you can try to forget!

Same. And given I have the memory of a goldfish, I've always forgotten the contents by the beginning of December.
BonfireStarter · 08/09/2020 17:53

@LadyGAgain I've had the Elemis one, the products lasted me ages and a good mix if skincare/bath/body. I'm also interested in the JL one.

IHeartSusanDey

Awww...Susan Dey was the reason I started watching LA Law...loved that.

When David Cassidy put out The Last Kiss I met him a few times and he was an absolute sweetheart. His end was so sad.

I'm so happy other people love Susan too. Isn't she just the best? David was a sweetheart when he was younger...I can well believe he was sensitive as Shirley Jones said. If only he could have enjoyed the fame and his career without always wishing it had been different. In the end, he was eaten up with alcoholic bitterness I think. I like to remember him as he was.

I see the Rituals calendar is out. I'm always so tempted but not giving in! I hope.

pearlypidge · 08/09/2020 18:06

I thought I had more or less decided - and then I saw the net a porter calendar details and now I don't know any more!

MotherofTerriers · 08/09/2020 18:22

oooo where did you find the net a porter details?

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 08/09/2020 19:04

@MotherofTerriers
Details of the Net-a-Porter advent calendar are here

MotherofTerriers · 08/09/2020 19:09

Thank you! I need to decide soon.........

Extracurricularfatigue · 08/09/2020 19:17

That calendar is another one with some of the repeating products I’ve noticed.

I’ve also been looking at everything in the boxes and although I know which ones I decided I liked the look of last week, I’ve already forgotten every detail.

doadeer · 08/09/2020 19:40

Oh God I just don't know.

I did love Space NK last year... But don't know whether to go as expensive this year. I want to buy Caroline Hirons winter kit and I have so much skincare!

Babysharkdoodoodood · 08/09/2020 20:13

Just bought the Rituals £89 advent. Will be here Friday.

Still haven't fully decided on my big one this year. Probably Selfridges tho.

Housewife2010 · 08/09/2020 21:11

I'm really impressed with Cult Beauty this year. Ideally I would replace the Huda palette with a Natasha Denona one in colours I'd wear. I'd also replace the Too Faced Lip Injection with a nice niche scent. But apart from that it's my favourite so far. There's no This Works Pillow Spray, Prai Neck Cream, black eyeliner, Stila mascara, Nars Orgasm or Laguna or CT Pillow Talk either which is a huge plus!

Eaumyword · 08/09/2020 22:08

I hadn't thought of the Rituals one (£59) I've always had the M&S one plus either L'Occitane or Body Shop. Last year I got Holland&Barrett, which was great. Would love a really luxe one but can't stretch to it.
Don't suppose anyone knows if you can get any discount on a Rituals one please? I think this year I might go for that one!

Pomegranatepompom · 09/09/2020 07:13

I haven’t look at glossy box before - it looks great. I just checked the m&s beauty box and not at all tempted.
I’m veering towards liberty, I was a bit disappointed with it last year (Bobbi Brown sample mascara and the weird shiny eyeshadow!) but it does look very tempting & improved this year.

Extracurricularfatigue · 09/09/2020 09:37

Could we not have spoilers on content please?

Housewife2010 · 09/09/2020 12:20

@Extracurricularfatigue

Could we not have spoilers on content please?
Maybe it's best to start a separate no spoiler advent thread. Most of us check the contents first so we know whether they are worth it or not (then try to forget what they were).
Extracurricularfatigue · 09/09/2020 12:29

I've checked all the contents myself, although have done an excellent job of forgetting them! But that doesn't mean we need to post about them, does it? We've always had no spoiler threads before, particularly this early. I'd imagine the majority of posters on here would rather not see posts about specific contents so maybe a separate spoilers thread would be the better answer, rather than the reverse.

Extracurricularfatigue · 09/09/2020 12:30

I wish MN would have an edit function - to be clear, the main threads have always been 'no spoiler' before.

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 09/09/2020 13:38

I had a couple of 'mystery boxes' from Look Fantastic earlier this year and was really impressed, so have gone for a subscription, and ordered the advent calendar (£15 off with subscription). All completely unnecessary, but I love a beauty advent calendar, even if I don't use half the stuff, it just feels like a real treat!

buckeejit · 09/09/2020 14:33

Whoop! Postie has arrived with Liberty fun & a perfect size bag for dc wet swimsuits!

I just got a notification about a Birchbox Calendar. No price or details yet.

Pomegranatepompom · 09/09/2020 18:18

@buckeejit that’s a good haul !
