Beauty Advent Calendars 2020

After a weird year, who is thinking about treating themselves? Can’t believe how quickly this has come round!

Nothing is out yet but some places are keeping waiting lists for notifications e.g. Cult Beauty. The John Lewis sneak peak looks promising. And I believe Body Shop is out the end of this month.

Any you will be looking out for? I’m thinking of splurging on a decent one this year — I had serious envy over Cult Beauty last year. I’ve also become a huge SpaceNK fan this year so I’ll have my eye out to see what they’re producing.

My big surprise hit last year was Holland and Barrett — super cheap and some brilliant items. If it’s as good this year I might end up with that as a bonus.

I had M&S last year and I liked pillow spray :). I was pondering between bodyshop and M&S this year but went for bodyshop. Pity that they won't do it this year.

myfringeisovermynose · 05/09/2020 17:45

what no M&S calendar! ShockShock ShockShock
I came on here to moan about the Macmillan calendar being £85 at Boots this year (I am sure it was around £30 last year). Last year, I treated myself to two calendars and used Macmillan to brighten January. I can't justify more than £30-£40 and even then I have to bargain with myself - last year I gave up take away coffees to cover the cost.

PumpkinsAndBroomsticks · 05/09/2020 17:47

I'm sure the Macmillan calendar will be reduced as part of a star gift or special offer

FredaFox · 05/09/2020 18:08

Macmillan was about that I think but did get reduced to about £40 I think?

Butterymuffin · 05/09/2020 19:54

Last year's Macmillan was £40 according to Beautycalendar.net. That is quite a jump. The Amazon one usually starts out at £40 and gets discounted to £30 in Black Friday week so that might be worth looking at @myfringeisovermynose?

Housewife2010 · 05/09/2020 20:53

The Macmillan one is overpriced. It's £80 but the contents are only worth about £137. Only £2 is going to charity too.

Have you seen the Holland & Barratt one! It's £40 and I think it's excellent value - it all depends on whether you'd use most of the products though.
Housewife2010 · 05/09/2020 20:58

Latest in Beauty will be releasing a calendar again this year. They haven't released any details yet. Last year they also did a collaboration with Grazia and the year before with Elle.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 05/09/2020 22:44

I wonder why M&S aren't doing the usual Beauty Advent Calendar this year?
Too many men or fuddy duddies in senior management/board room who just don't 'get' what their customers want?
Or are M&S having sourcing problems?
Or is it actually a loss leader as too many people buy stuff to reach the spend limit to get the calendar for £25-£35 & then return the items they've bought?

Writersblock2 · 06/09/2020 11:05

I just popped back to read and this thread had jumped by 8 pages! Yay!
Anyway, since my last comment I purchased a load of stuff from SpaceNK (Olaplex and Bum Bum Cream ftw!) to get the gwp and I really love it. I’ve spent a crazy amount with SpaceNK this year and I’m close to Deluxe tier on my NDulge account, and with £10 in points I might just get the SpaceNK calendar. I do love the look of Cult Beauty though. Ugh...

I also got LookFantastic for £66 with a discount code so it would have been rude not to (expired now, it only worked for a couple of hours). Only other ones I am tempted by are the John Lewis or Elemis. But I’ll wait and see nearer the time.

Discount code for LF? Understand it's finished now, but would you be kind enough to say where to look just in case it comes up again please? £66 is AMAZING!

Butterymuffin · 06/09/2020 12:51

I know it's just continuing to moan but I've just looked at the details for the 12 day Autograph calendar that M&S are doing. Two of the three items in the photo are ones that have featured in the calendar in the last few years - bronzer and the mini tube of the luminosity primer. If that's indicative of the sizes of the content then £75 seems over priced to me for only 12 days and some small sizes. The beauty edit box coming out in October does indeed feature familiar names from the calendar, including Eyeko mascara Wink, Percy and Reed etc. At £20 if you spend £30 elsewhere, and with a stated worth of over £120, that seems much better value than the Autograph calendar, but for me lacks the excitement of the usual calendar and misses out the best bits of that. So it will be a hard pass from me for both, and a Paddington hard stare at M&S for, IMO, fucking up their previously reliable festive offer.

FredaFox · 06/09/2020 12:55

I’ve tweeted M&S saying it’s disappointing no calendar and got this reply “Hi, please keep an eye across our social media pages for more info over the next few months :)”
Still not hopeful though

Writersblock2 · 06/09/2020 13:01

@Eaumyword It was AC21. It have 22% off the site including the calendar. I don’t know if it was accidental because it came down pretty quickly. But it’s worth trying each time they give the overnight discounts. It was an emailed code.

So disappointed there won't be a M&S one SadConfused
Does anyone know if you can get a discount on the look fantastic one if you get the beauty box?

pmac62 · 06/09/2020 13:15

I have posted a referralcode on the Christmas referralthread but if people would like here it is
www.lookfantastic.com/referrals.list?applyCode=PATRICIA-RHOQ
It gives £5 off a £25 spend

Kez0777 · 06/09/2020 13:29

I've just looked at the look fantastic website and it says beauty box subscribers will get an early access email and £15 off but I haven't had one 🤔 has anyone else?
Although £70 is still more than I'd normally spend on one

OchonAgusOchonO · 06/09/2020 13:29

@Kez0777 - Does anyone know if you can get a discount on the look fantastic one if you get the beauty box?

Yes you can. I put both the advent calendar and the one month subscription in my basket and used the code ADVENTNEWSUBS. I got €15 off the calendar so the box effectively cost me €5. I think you do better in sterling. I then cancelled the subscription once they shipped the box, which was within a couple of hours.

Ah sorry meant I am a 12 month subscriber (although been 2 years now 🤣) but that's a great tip for others. Thank you

As far as I know, subscribers get the discount too. Have you tried junk mail for an email with a code?

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 06/09/2020 14:17

Gutted no M and S calender this year - it's the only one I could ever afford but I loved it :( What an end to 2020

MysweetAudrina · 06/09/2020 14:37

I just pre ordered the LF one. I have gotten the M&S one the last few years but also got the Debenhams one last year for Jadvent and enjoyed the contents more than the M&S one and it was around the same price with in store spend so worth considering for those who will miss out on the M&S one.

Eaumyword · 06/09/2020 14:46

Thanks Writers and others for discount codes x

OchonAgusOchonO · 06/09/2020 15:04

@MysweetAudrina - yes. I'm hoping for the debenham's one too. I wasn't as patient as you though. I opened both in December. I might do January this time.
