Beauty Advent Calendars 2020

After a weird year, who is thinking about treating themselves? Can’t believe how quickly this has come round!

Nothing is out yet but some places are keeping waiting lists for notifications e.g. Cult Beauty. The John Lewis sneak peak looks promising. And I believe Body Shop is out the end of this month.

Any you will be looking out for? I’m thinking of splurging on a decent one this year — I had serious envy over Cult Beauty last year. I’ve also become a huge SpaceNK fan this year so I’ll have my eye out to see what they’re producing.

My big surprise hit last year was Holland and Barrett — super cheap and some brilliant items. If it’s as good this year I might end up with that as a bonus.

@OchonAgusOchonO I really enjoyed the ASOS calendar last year. Managed to get it cheaper in some kind of offer/sale and I thought it was much better than both M&S and Debenhams so I really hope they do one this year.

@Butterymuffin I know! I’m actually quite sad about it.

@stepmotherofone - I really enjoyed the ASOS calendar last year. Managed to get it cheaper in some kind of offer/sale and I thought it was much better than both M&S and Debenhams so I really hope they do one this year.

I'll have a look at that then. Is it make-up heavy? I prefer less make-up, although a couple of nice bits is good. Last year I got an amazing sparkly rose gold eyeliner and a bronze cream eye shadow i use as an eyeliner. I think they were both glossybox.

There needs to be better swapping - I hated the prai and chucked it then discovered my mum loves it. Ditto Percy and Reed - their products do nothing for me.

stepmotherofone · 05/09/2020 13:21

@OchonAgusOchonO it was quite a good mix last year of makeup/skincare/hair/body stuff.

buckeejit · 05/09/2020 13:32

ASOS was good last year - I bought it for the wet brush, (can never have too many), and elemis cream I think, (still unopened). The box is gorgeous, I loved it, like chipboard cork with colourful bits.

I may look for ASOS again & might be kind enough to make my friends a 12 days of Christmas with my unwanted bits. My holy grail things are tata harper, dennis gross, Aesop & aurelia

OchonAgusOchonO · 05/09/2020 13:38

I'll definitely have a look at asos. Dd had it the year before last but it was very make-up heavy that year so I didn't look last year.

PrincessWatermelon · 05/09/2020 13:48

Right. Advice please.

I love the look of the Liberty GWP and can't justify it and a calendar. Had thought to get the Cult Beauty one as a splurge this year.

However, it might be more sensible to pay £175 and get dreamy products and then reuse an empty calendar I have (I'll ask DH to do it) with the Liberty GWP.

If I do this, I will need recommendations on what to buy, as have never bought anything from Liberty's!

Thanks

Butterymuffin · 05/09/2020 14:07

@stepmotherofone Where did you see that M&S aren't doing the calendar? I can't find it anywhere and I am very surprised they would drop something that sells out every year and gets people into stores.

@PrincessWatermelon I don't see making my own calendar as a treat so in your position I would go Cult Beauty which looks good. Just my view!

FredaFox · 05/09/2020 14:12

I’ll get disappointed if there is no M&S one, it’s a good price and I was going to get one along with a more expensive one

PrincessWatermelon · 05/09/2020 14:12

@Butterymuffin yes, I guess you're right. But if DH put it in, then it would still be a surprise and I would have a bonus £175 worth of goods too.

And just look. I could get this 😲

Butterymuffin · 05/09/2020 14:15

@PrincessWatermelon It's just me! I know lots of people enjoy filling them. Think of me as devil's advocate..

PrincessWatermelon · 05/09/2020 14:17

I've looked again at Cult Beauty. I def want that calendar, esp if there is a thread for each day.

I want it all!!!!

Luvacuppatea · 05/09/2020 14:18

@Butterymuffin - Reallyree has announced that there is no M&S calendar on Twitter, plus there is a bit about it on her site now ☹️

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 05/09/2020 14:19

DD (19) gets the glossy box every month as a birthday present and absolutely loves it.

She got the Glossy box calendar last year and I'll be getting it for her again-huge hit!

PumpkinsAndBroomsticks · 05/09/2020 14:21

In very disappointed about the no advent calendar from M&S. I've tried quite a few calendars over the years and this was always the best in terms of value and variation. Look Fantastic looks good but it seems to have quite a lot of miniature sizes. The Elemis cream makes it worth the price though....

Floralbean · 05/09/2020 14:22

I actually like Glossybox, I've had a replacement box a few months ago which wasn't great, but I tend to use most of the stuff I get. I did subscribe on black Friday and it worked out at about £8 a box (including postage) which I don't think is too bad. I am tempted by the calendar, but really I do have a load of toiletries, make up, skincare to use already, so don't know.

buckeejit · 05/09/2020 14:26

@PrincessWatermelon definitely better to get something 'free'. I'm going for treats I like & dh will arrange them. Have lots of old empty calendars - May even sell a couple this year as they go for a fair bit on eBay.

I bought 2 Aesop handwashes which I may gift for Christmas. I love neom so big candle, nars blush-Gina as I haven't splurged in a blush for a while!

Oh that's right - they also had a summer set that was great value & another collection - so I bought that-will try to find it.

If you don't want things as gifts, what sort of products do you use & like to try?

buckeejit · 05/09/2020 14:37

Agh, it's out of stock now. Hope my order comes through as said the kit was worth $305 & had some nice bits including full size Aurelia night oil (which I love & lost my last one-had gone off by the time I found it again!)

Davine's hair milk is good, I'd probably get a tinted moisturiser

buckeejit · 05/09/2020 14:37

Also says last few GWP remaining

Housewife2010 · 05/09/2020 14:39

The Liberty GWP has lasted a long time this year. I remember about four years ago it sold out online by 2pm on the launch day.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 05/09/2020 14:45

No Advent Calendar 😡 Have M&S lost the plot?
I would have thought that the calendar would be a big money spinner as pp says it gets people in the stores to spend.

Butterymuffin · 05/09/2020 14:58

Thanks @Luvacuppatea though Shock at what seems a very strange decision by M&S. I always went into store to get mine and would spend more. Looking at Really Ree, the alternatives mentioned don't cut it for me - the gift box isn't the same as having a calendar to open daily, and the Autograph make up one and the Formula one are at higher price points. Maybe they've decided they wanted to up the prices for their seasonal offerings and the easiest way to do that is to remove the calendar from the equation. Disappointing and it is likely to mean I look elsewhere for a replacement. 2020 sucks, again!

Pomegranatepompom · 05/09/2020 15:30

Disappointed of no m and s calendar, think or probably generated a lot of sales.

IHeartSusanDey · 05/09/2020 16:03

The M&S Gift Box sounds like it is filled with all the junk we said we didn't like in calendars.

FredaFox · 05/09/2020 16:38

M&S isn't filled with junk but it can be repetitive contents with previous years but for £30 it's a steal.
I'm disappointed.
I'll miss the thread on here as we opened them daily
