Beauty Advent Calendars 2020

After a weird year, who is thinking about treating themselves? Can’t believe how quickly this has come round!

Nothing is out yet but some places are keeping waiting lists for notifications e.g. Cult Beauty. The John Lewis sneak peak looks promising. And I believe Body Shop is out the end of this month.

Any you will be looking out for? I’m thinking of splurging on a decent one this year — I had serious envy over Cult Beauty last year. I’ve also become a huge SpaceNK fan this year so I’ll have my eye out to see what they’re producing.

My big surprise hit last year was Holland and Barrett — super cheap and some brilliant items. If it’s as good this year I might end up with that as a bonus.

Definitely agree re the pillow spray and liberty always put in Susanne Kaufmann bath oils which I don’t really like.

Butterymuffin · 04/09/2020 22:23

@IHeartSusanDey Grin LOL, you've encapsulated the repeat offenders there! Though I am one of the rare folk who like the Eyeko mascara. Can we add Lord and Berry to the 'not again' list?

OchonAgusOchonO · 04/09/2020 22:41

I've never got one of the pillow sprays but would love one. None in the one I've just bought this year either.

I suppose I could actually buy one.

OchonAgusOchonO · 04/09/2020 22:42

@Butterymuffin - I love the Eyeko mascara tooGrin

Eaumyword · 04/09/2020 22:50

Me three, love the Eyeko mini mascaras! Not keen on pillow sprays, makeup brushes or any bright makeup. I thought the Holland&Barret calendar last year was spectacular for the price (with a discount on top!) Lots of fab skincare.

Ponks · 04/09/2020 22:58

😁Yes re the pillow spray and Nars Orgasm blusher, they always put me off a calendar.

ButteryPuffin · 04/09/2020 23:01

@OchonAgusOchonO bet there will be people looking to offload them on the swap thread come Boxing Day Wink

OchonAgusOchonO · 04/09/2020 23:10

Yeah. I look on wistfully at the s

OchonAgusOchonO · 04/09/2020 23:12

Not sure how I managed to press post there!

Anyway, I look on wistfully at the swap thread. I'm in Ireland so the international postage means it's not really worth it.

Maybe I'll start an ireland swap thread Smile

It’s the hair perfume that gets me. Yes it might be Byredo and cost £££ but I really have no need for it.

I have done a quick stocktake and have enough products to last me so it will have to be a really special advent calendar to tempt me this year.

IHeartSusanDey · 05/09/2020 08:12

Lol I don't like Eyeko...have too many already and I only really use the Hourglass mascara. My daughters love the Pillow Spray - they used to take it to sleepovers so they would be reminded of home before they fell asleep.

IHeartSusanDey · 05/09/2020 08:15

And yes, Lord and Berry! A definite no.🤣

Extracurricularfatigue · 05/09/2020 09:50

I have looked at all the contents this year, as I know I’ll forget most of them by December, and have spotted a couple of products that are going to this year’s high end repeaters. Interestingly they were in last year’s Cult Beauty, so maybe that’s the time lag!

FredaFox · 05/09/2020 10:55

Hate hate hate the eyeko and pillow spray , Also that throat cream M&S give at every opportunity, starts with p I think, I’ve got 4 of them sat in a basket

IHeartSusanDey · 05/09/2020 11:18

Yes, Prai I think it is called. It never did a single thing for my neck! The red Huda Beauty eyeshadow palette has cropped up a few times as well.

Costacoffeeplease · 05/09/2020 11:26

I love the prai neck cream, use it every day and the Percy and Reed wonder balm and no oil oil
Hate the little eyeko mascara
Don’t mind the pillow spray

FredaFox · 05/09/2020 11:52

Prai!! That's it!! Sick of it, useless

OchonAgusOchonO · 05/09/2020 12:16

I love the Percy and Reed wonder balm too.

stepmotherofone · 05/09/2020 12:29

No M&S calendar this year apparently!

buckeejit · 05/09/2020 12:33

I've ordered the Liberty GWP - really wanted to try the Aesop handwashes and ordered a big neom candle that I will 'gift' my to dh!

I love cleansers, don't use black eyeliner & don't use any hair products other than sls free shampoo!

Think I will ask dh to put the GWP stuff in an old Liberty calendar & maybe order some minis that I actually want to try & give myself a £50 budget for that. He bought me the Jo Malone calendar last year. Haven't wanted it for years & was a bit meh. The quality is nowhere near what it used to be, very little smell from anything!

I've bought calendars for years & think my favourite was decleor a few years ago. Everything usable & good quality. Also have a massive stash of allsorts to get through. Think I'll go sort some of it now, will just have a peek again at space nk GWP.....

OchonAgusOchonO · 05/09/2020 12:34

Really? I was thinking of getting a second cheap calendar so M&S or debenham's were the likely candidates as they were both cheap with a purchase.

Does anyone know if Debenham's will do one this year? I thought it was very good last year. I'm assuming they will still have an Irish website as they have pulled out of Ireland.

OchonAgusOchonO · 05/09/2020 12:40

Yes. I like cleansers too, so long as they're not wash off. And I have a ridiculous collection of black eye liners from gwp's and advent calendars. I'm too fair and too old to get away with wearing them. My daughter has refused to take them as she rarely wears black eye liner. Might offer to my niece.

Butterymuffin · 05/09/2020 12:54

What? NOOO! It's a staple for me. Plus the day by day thread on here is lovely. Say it isn't so! Shock

Same here. Let's face it, you can always use cleanser. I too have the collection of the inevitable black eyeliners. They come in handy once a year on World Book Day when you have to draw a Harry Potter scar onto a child's head.

Just asked my youngest can i draw a Harry Potter scar on his head. He, for some reason, has refused to let me. Maybe 17 is a bit old to have your mother drawing a Harry Potter scar on you.
