Hello! This is week FIVE of the EIGHTH WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even thought it's Oct
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

Happy Monday everyone!

Hello everyone, thank you for all the kind words. Now, to make you all feel better about what you've been eating and drinking, here's today's damage:

toast x 2, Marmite
enormous chicken sandwich in Mexican restaurant with chips
sweets
and we're having an Indian take away tonight

90 mins ex bike rather than walking
Lots of water/weak tea yy
handcream yy

Eat healthily - Ish.
Be happy - TGI Friday tomorrow.

unknownrebelbang · 11/10/2007 19:53

aren't going your way

arfishy · 12/10/2007 04:14

Sorry about your cat Rosmerta

Ate:

Weetbix & mix raisins/nuts with skimmed milk
Wholemeal bread with 1 egg and cucumber (no butter/mayo)
Handful of macadamia nuts (approved protein snack)
Stir-fry with chicken, mange-tout, broccoli, carrot, pepper, baby sweetcorn, ginger. Small amount of plum sauce and 3 tablespoons rice.

Went for a facial as part of my reward scheme for attending bootcamp. It was lovely and all sort of ladies-who-lunch until I woke myself up snoring . Then it went Britney.

This morning I was up again at 5 to go to the gym. To my horror my trainer, the rather extremely hunky Scott has been replaced by the evil Goebbels of the trainer world Victoria. I didn't think it was possible to smash your average heart rate record by 13 bmp in one session. It was HORRIBLE.

bamamama · 12/10/2007 05:35

arfishy (fellow nightshift bootcamper) - I really don't know how you're managing it esp now you have a horrible trainer and I'm not suprised you fell asleep!
Ros - sorry to hear about your cat, hope you're ok and I hope you ds is having a better night.
Marina - we're only here for a year and we're 2 months into that already so I don't really have time to be homesick! We thought for a few days this week that we might be here for 4 years but is turns out that there are loads of academics who'd like 3 years of no admin or teaching so dh didn't get the research post he applied for. So. Back to Blighty next Summer for us it is!
Went for a bike ride this morning and was attacked by two different magpies (this is quite common here, it's not just me).
Have taken my eye off the ball wine wise so will indulge this weekend and start properly again next week.

Have a good Friday all - Cerys - stop training and start eating pasta - good luck for Sunday.

bamamama · 12/10/2007 05:38

Arfishy - If you were spending one night in Sydney, arriving early afternoon and flying out early the following morning, which area would you stay in to get a flavour of the city (with all the limitations travelling with an 18 month old brings?) - any recommendations?

arfishy · 12/10/2007 06:05

Hi Bam, I didn't realise you were an overnighter . Now. Afternoon in Sydney. That's a good one. Where are you coming from?

If I had an afternoon here with an 18mo I'd probably do Darling Harbour & Darling Park. They've very close the centre - 5 minutes walk and have a huge park with swings and sandpits and slides, fine for littlies plus the aquarium and loads and loads of waterside (not literally on the water, set back a way and fenced so not too scary with toddlers) restaurants and cafes. Lots of birds and water and fountains and things. Next to the park is the Chinese Gardens and slightly further down Paddy's markets and Chinatown, which is fun.

www.darlingharbour.com/sydney-At_a_Glance.htm

If you stay in the CBD you'd be able to do this and also take a stroll around the opera house, which is lovely, or do a ferry ride across the harbour from Circular Quay.

bamamama · 12/10/2007 06:15

arfishy - I appear to be the only MNer in Canberra! Thanks for the suggestions - we're passing through Sydney on the way to NZ in December, just didn't want to arrive and spend all afternoon deciding what to do! Now, do you get a mid afternoon bowl of mungbeans or some such?

tortoiseSHELL · 12/10/2007 08:46

arfishy, that sounds horrible! But just think of all the good it is doing you! You will be super slim by Christmas!!!

arfishy · 12/10/2007 09:40

LOL have you been peeking at my eating plan? I'm currently 'feasting' on a huge plate of veg, with 2 tablespoons of baba-ghannouje and 4 falafel. I have a packet of Tempeh in the fridge that I keep eyeing suspiciously. I think I'm going to have to ask Franny for help.

Oooh Canberra eh? Glad I didn't send you off to see the 'roos then. Although there are some at the Wildlife World next to the Aquarium, but it's rubbish and costs megabucks.

Yes indeedy Tortoise. If I'm not slim by Christmas I will do something very unpleasant to Victoria. And it will probably involve a cross trainer and that nasty piece of kit with the cables, weights and stretchy elastic. And me screaming about her heart rate.

WideWebWitch · 12/10/2007 13:52

Arfy, wtf is baba-ghannouje?

all of you are lovely, thanks for all the kind words here.

I feel happier today, having bawled a lot last night. I feel a failure, that's my problem but never mind, onwards! Acton beckons and it could be worse, I could have NO offers and be unemployed in 2 weeks time but I am not. The glass is half full. And actually, I could do 6 months or longer in that role, save a load of cash and consider taking the school summer holidays off next year, before dd starts school ( where did THAT time go?! Eeek) next September.

So, as displacement activity I have cleaned my house from top to bottom this morning and dd and I did a big supermarket shop and I've done ALL the washing so the house is clean and at least my domestic life feels organised. Dd is a poppet and is snoring on the sofa as I type this. I have a work related thing to go to tonight, that I'm not particularly looking forward to but after that the weekend beckons...

Have eaten toast and have just had lovely brown lentils with 1tsp olive oil, some lemon juice, a sliver of feta, a drop of Tabasco and salt and pepper, it was gorgeous.
That amount of housework must count as exercise I reckon
Not enough water but there's time to put that right
Will use sunscreen later

Dd and I are going for a stroll by the river this afternoon so that'll be nice.

Eww at the magpie attacks, that sounds scary
Happy Friday everyone

Oh www, my fellow job-hunter, lots of sympathy from me, and glad you are feeling a bit better today. Wow on domestic organisation front! Very impressive.

I'm still in job-seeker hell but have been eating healthily, have had no booze since Saturday night and am losing weight through caffeine-fuelled living-on-nerves! Aaaaaarrrrrgghh!!!

On the down side, have been too busy to go to Pilates or even walk into work, so very under-exercised.

WideWebWitch · 12/10/2007 14:04

Dino, you had loads of second ints this week didn;t you? How did they go? I had one interview which was more like a kicking in that I was GRILLED on a product I don't know, didn't profess to know and is completely outside my experience. I should have said 'er, I don't know and I think I should leave now since you're not asking me about my area of expertise' but I stupidly blundered on for an hour and then cried all the way home. Stupid fking wankers!
How do you do that caffeine fuelled thing then? My downfall has been coming home and drinking wine...

OP posts:
Dinosaur · 12/10/2007 14:08

I've had three second interviews this week and have a third interview followed by lunch on Monday.

I think they've been going okay but I find it hard to tell what they really think of me.

I've quite enjoyed it in a funny sort of way but now I feel like it is dragging on a bit and I want an end to it.

Am going for another first interview next week for a slightly different role that might be more of a career step-up.

I haven't drunk this much coffee in ages! Last time I was drinking this much coffee I was still a heavy smoker, that's how long ago it is!

It's been easy not to drink in the evenings as neither DH nor I have been very well and the DSs have all had turns at being ill too. Gah.

WideWebWitch · 12/10/2007 14:12

Wow that all sounds great Dino, I hope you get the one you want the most. Followed by lunch sounds really positive. They don't invite you to lunch if they don't like you! Good luck
I almost got a pang of wanting to smoke this week I was so stressed but recognised it for being something I wasn't going to give into. not that there's anywhere you CAN smoke these days!

Dinosaur · 12/10/2007 14:27

Thanks, www .

I sat down briefly outside a Coffee Republic this morning and there was an ashtray absolutely stuffed with fag ends, one of which was still smouldering. Reminded me of just what a disgusting habit it is - blugh!

Marina · 12/10/2007 16:43

OMG dino I didn't know you were job-hunting too ...but you are still at your current place, right? Fingers crossed you (both) find just the right thing very soon

Dinosaur · 12/10/2007 17:12

Marina, I am still here, yes. It is all very stressful at the moment but I very much hope to catch up with you soon x

unknownrebelbang · 12/10/2007 21:09

Hope you get a successful outcome Dinosaur.

Arfishy - well I managed a 5 am awakening yesterday, lol, but that's about all I matched of your routine!

Sunscreen yy
No booze yy
90 mins ex bike rather than walking
Lots of water/weak tea yy
handcream yy
bed early - YES!!! In bed by 11 pm last night.
Eat healthily - Ish. Got fed up of fruit today though. Love fruit and make a point of eating loads because I dislike most veg, but today I just got fed up.
Be happy - It's Friday! No walking on eggshells at work til Monday, yay.

arfishy · 12/10/2007 22:03

Sorry about all the job hunting nightmares everybody.

Well it's Saturday and I've had a lie-in until 6am, which I'm actually pathetically grateful for, not least because I don't have to see the evil Victoria today.

DD has been diagnosed with tonsillitis poor thing but she's been very brave (don't ask how I came up with chickenpox). She's off pre-school for 10 days though, it's a viral one apparently.

WWW - Baba Ghannouje is a middle-eastern dip made from chargrilled aubergine and sesame paste & garlic. It's v.nice. We have lots of Lebanese & Turkish stuff here.

Well, I've had no wine for 3 WEEKS .

Went to bed at 9.30, had lots of water. Used my lovely clarins body oil. Need to sort out my feet. Am happy but bored.
