WWW's six week 10yy boot camp, Oct 2007 already

WideWebWitch · 01/10/2007 07:09

Hello! This is week FIVE of the EIGHTH WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even thought it's Oct
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

Happy Monday everyone!

and should add, took eggs from the garden in for the harvest display!

unknownrebelbang · 17/10/2007 21:34

Evening all.

Can't remember the last time I bought a magazine, so am envious of your £20 worth www! What's a good read these days?

Hope you're feeling better today winnie.

Sunscreen yy
No booze yy
30 mins ex bike rather than walking.
Lots of water/weak tea yy
handcream yy
bed early - maintaining a reasonable time.
Eat healthily - hmm, not good today, blasted sweets at karate combined with hanging around.
Be happy - yeah, guess so, but tired.

arfishy · 17/10/2007 21:51

Oooh Shell. That's fab chicken news [chicken envy] and well done DS!

Welcome back bundle, you old-timer you. Thanks for the tip-off for the feet. Mine are in a state and it's now slingback season.

Last night for dinner I had a bowl of steamed veggies as penance so hopefully I haven't derailed myself with the wine. Not least because our Irish friends are coming to stay this weekend and it's always a boozy affair (the boys have beer for breakfast. The last 2 times DP has spent most of Sunday asleep on the living room floor after a boozy breakfast, drooling [I'll be doing the parenting then you alco])

How's the nose Legal?

Rightio. I'm off to start the day with a nutritious breakfast of weet-bix and raisins.

I WILL do my feet and remember the pedometer.

bamaHamaHorror · 18/10/2007 12:37

hello all. Felt rubbish all day in that sicky-not-quite-right-and-a-bit-washed-out kind of way. Walked all the way up to the war memorial and was helped with my buggy by a white haired tour guide and I couldn't help but wonder if it was legalalien's fil (as I believe he works there rather than random guessing). However how could you ask????! Anyway, managed to placate ds with a museli bar while the last post was being played and was suitably impressed by it all.
Not much to report bootcamp-wise (can you tell??) hoping I feel better tomorrow just so that life with a 16 month old who gets the old mcdonald book out every 3 minutes is less exhausting....

winnie · 18/10/2007 15:09

bamaHamaHorror (love the name). Hope you are feeling better soon. How do you ask? I've been in similar situations thanks to mn. I've been tempted to ask but it is just too complicated.

Arfishy, I am assuming you will not be reporting back to the 'evil Victoria' on the plans for the weekend

Unknownrebelbang, you are doing really well. Fab

TS, I remain deeply of the chickens. Hope your Mum is ok. Ds's harvest festival sounds lovely. Wallow in proud mummy moment.

WWW, saving money whilst stressed and bored is hell. Hope you are feeling better.

Batters, thanks I will take a look but I mustn't sign up as I am trying to budget too. (Famous last words.)

I had a good day yesterday. Ticked all the boxes but for sunscreen. I went for a lovely evening walk under the stars which pushed the MORON count up. It's ds's birthday today so we will be having pizza and cake tonight though.

tortoiseSHELL · 18/10/2007 15:58

(Is it just me that now can't think of the name |Victoria without the prefix 'the evil'?

winnie - my mum is fine, it was a while ago, legalalien just reminded me of it. Legalalien, hope your nose is all recovered.

I'm guessing www is wading through the magazines. Hope you're enjoying it www!

I took ds1 swimming last night (he had his lesson) so I managed some proper swimming for once, although was having to dodge lunatic teenagers....

Afterwards I took ds1 into the big pool at his request, and he swam a good 5m unaided, out of his depth - this is such good progress for him, as before the summer he was totally phobic of the big pool and wouldn't put his face in. Last night he was swimming with face in the water, confident at being out of his depth. SUCH a relief for me!

Hope you're feeling better bamahamahorror.

Thanks winnie. How old's DS today? It's DS2's birthday tomorrow - he'll be 11.

Good news about ds tortoiseshell.

Can I just say at this point that I'm soooo glad I'm a Vikki, not Victoria .

Sunscreen yy
No booze yy
60 mins ex bike rather than walking. Forgot to mention the games night at beavers last night, wasn't that athletic but it got the heart-rate going, lol.
Lots of water/weak tea yy
handcream yy
bed early - was a little later last night but not too bad.
Eat healthily - hmm, not too bad today, and I resisted loads at Tesco tonight.
Be happy - yeah, no work tomorrow!

arfishy · 19/10/2007 07:26

Another morning with the evil Victoria [not Vikki ]. I'll share today's routine with you for a snapshot of my bootcamp hell.

10 minutes on exercise bike heartbeat over 170 (think scarlet face).
60 second recovery then
10 minutes as fast as you can on treadmill to beat personal best with Evil Victoria standing next to you goading you about how slow you are
60 second recovery then
50 press ups
50 chin ups
50 sit-ups
50 squat thrusts with 5kg dumbbells
60 second recovery then
10 minutes pumping with heartbeat at 180 bpm on evil cross trainer with Victoria standing next to you complaining that your rpm isn't high enough (next time I WILL throw up on her)
60 second recovery time then
400 jabs on punchbag
50 high kicks on punchbag
50 crunches
50 situps
END

And to my horror at the end she announced that tomorrow is weigh and measure day. Ooooh Nooooooo. If I haven't lost whatever percent of bodyfat she's expecting I'm toast.

So to cheer myself up I nipped into French Connection and bought a luverly dress (and a skirt and top), because after a workout I feel slim. I realised of course that after tomorrows weigh in I might feel fat again and then I won't like my new stuff. So steamed veg tonight it is.

Pedometer at around 9,000. Haven't done feet. Have done tax return [pat on back], which bizarrely involved me measuring the house. Have done sunscreen, am happy mainly due to excessive spending, have had water, no booze. Am going to bed by 9.30 out of sheer boredom. Tonight I will do my nails. In fact, I'm off to the chemist to get foot stuff and nail stuff. And a pumpkin for dinner.

Any news on Legal's nose? WWW's magazine stash? Shell's chickens?

Winnie - rest assured, Evil Victoria will NOT be privvy to my plans. Deffo no wine on Sun as I have bootcamp on Mon, so hopefully will keep the consumption down.

bamaHamaHorror · 19/10/2007 07:43

hello all, Arfishy does the evil Victoria look really haggard slim, blonde and unhappy? That's what I'm picturing. Like Gillian McKeith's niece (or something).
I'm feeling better today so went out for a long walk this morning. Walked past a bunch of women kick boxing in the park, forced my (shy) self to go and ask if it was an organised 'do' and am now sort of signed up for a weekly workout in the park. That should help the bootcamp methinks. Anyway, walking a minimum of 15,000 steps per day (32,000 on Tuesday) so either I am becoming fitter or my moron is broken
Hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend. Finished your mags yet www?
Where is DoCB? T/shell, good for your ds and swimming plus the harvest festival. I know I've got a few years before I'm in amongst the nativity as it were but I know I'm going to cry!

Enjoy your Friday - it's nearly wine o'clock here. (yep the no booze for 6 weeks plan has fallen at the first hurdle )

tigermoth · 19/10/2007 08:17

Just popping my head round the door to say a quick hello.

WWW, I have never heard of restaurants actually enabling people to dance on tables - how yuck! I've missed a lot of your your work/interview angst but sorry to hear of it.

I am also around at home for a lot of half term so have more mumsnet time - this thread is on my active list as well

TS, glad you enjoyed the swim. I must get back to it. I love it when I go but leave it a couple of weeks and the thought of going stops me

legalalien, hope your nose is ok. I obviously missed that.

Batters, enjoy your lunch

Unknownrebelbang, ds was 7 yesterday. We are marvel comic(ed) out! Happy Birthday to your ds

Arfishy, at your bootcamp proper
Lol at bamaHamaHorror "haggard, slim, blonde and unhappy" (although whats wrong with blonde?
And 32,000 steps fantastic. Well done you. I am in awe.

Hello Tigermoth.

Hope Duchess is ok X

Yesterday, despite pizza and cake bootcamp was mostly ok. Have lost weight this week so that has to be a good thing.

Thank goodness it's wineday though

moonshine · 19/10/2007 11:48

Hello all - have been absent as my part-time job has been very much full time this week and I just flop when I get home although still have to do lots of domestic stuff (like making an alien costume for book week - gawd I am crap at things like that). Day off for me today, although I need to collect ds from nursery soon. i should be going for a long workout session but I am luxuriating in doing nothing much as it's the first time in a long time that I have 2 hours all to myself.

So, haven't really been getting enough sleep (especially quality sleep), have not been eating as well as I promised, and managed to quaff nearly a whole bottle of wine last night in record time (that's my wind down method).

Am at your routine Arfishy and am at bamaHamaHorror's 32,000 steps in one day. My record is 23,000 and that included walking for hours one day when my sil was looking after the kids for the weekend.

I'm feeling quite inadequate and not worthy at all of fellow bootcampers. And yes, good job it is wineday (again!).

unknownrebelbang · 19/10/2007 19:16

Arfishy, that would be the death of me!

Sunscreen yy
No booze yy
45 mins ex bike, plus a pleasant stroll (about an hour) with the lads today, whilst out and about.
Lots of water/weak tea - need to drink some more.
handcream yy
bed early - Need to catch up tonight.
Eat healthily - croissants for breakfast, stodgy (but lovely) picnic lunch. Omelette for dinner, when DH returns.
Be happy - yeah, lovely day with DS2 and DS3. Shame DS1 had to go to school, lol.

bamaHamaHorror · 20/10/2007 04:18

ah but moonshine you're working - I have no excuse for not doing loads of walking - I'm just making the most of being off work at the moment..
Winnie, happy belated birthday to ds and well done on the weight loss. I've nothing against blondes in principle but I suppose being bullied throughout school for being a ginger I'm slightly bitter
Today I have bought trainers. They are hideous but needs must. I'm toying with the idea of going for a run later.
As an aside, bootcamp is now pervading my unconscious hours too. Last night I dreamt www came round to my house to complain about the speed and accuracy of my typing! She was strangely faceless.....
Enjoy your weekend!

legalalien · 20/10/2007 11:15

Hi all,

Have managed to have an injury-free Saturday morning today, also DH insisted that I stay in bed and have a sleep in (first one (for me at least) in three years of parenthood so still in shock). Also have had long shower and braced self to put on pair of winter trousers that I have been avoiding so far - they JUST fit (actually they probably fit fine, but I have been avoiding fitting clothes for a while so am feeling self conscious in them. From memory though, they stretch a bit after a couple of wears.)

Arfishy, am wondering if there's some way that you could "resell" your bootcamp points to us less-than-virtuous microcommunists? Re ericsson - I had thought that they were mostly in melbourne but guess you're project based. have only ever dealt with them in nz, where everyone involved was an ex-pat swede, and they used to get together on weekends, have spit roasts and drink lots of beer.

Bama' - can't see how you could avoid walking in Canberra, and expect that the distance is doubled by the weird, curly road system that they have (for those who haven't been to Canberra, it's a massive experiment in urban planning - see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canberra#Urban_structure. I've become wildly disoriented every time I've been there.

I trust the two of you are kitted out in England colours in honour of the rugby? (all the aussies I know are supporting England over SA, btw, but are not optimistic).

sobernow - congrats on the job, and good to see someone else measuring their success by clothes-fitability.

  • right, toddler returning to the house - must dash.....
unknownrebelbang · 21/10/2007 13:58

I got a couple of compliments last night! Off people that see me regularly. Plus an admiring glance (coupled with a snigger when he remembered I was dressed up for a wedding and would miss the rugby, lol).

This is working for me at the moment. I've kept up with the exercise bike, and although the food I consume could be better, I'm being more sensible about what I eat.

Bedtime has proved successful. I've managed to get to bed at a reasonable time for several days running, and it is making a big difference.

We're away for a few days tomorrow. I will miss my exercise bike (really) but weather permitting, intend to do a bit of walking each day. I always eat more sensibly on holiday (think it's the lack of stress when we're away iykwim) and I sleep more too, so hopefully I will come back feeling contented and refreshed.

arfishy · 22/10/2007 08:05

Woo-hoo! In two weeks have lost 21cm (alas not all from my capacious backside) and 2% of my bodyfat. Evil Victoria's cunning plan is clearly working.

On the subject of the routine being the death of people - yes it's the death of me too, not being a fit/sporty type. But I duly showed up at crack-of-dawn o'clock this morning for another session. [virtuous]

Evil Victoria's website photos show her very slim and fit looking (yes, and blonde). Alas in reality she is rather porky with too short-shorts and acne. I am charitably assuming an injury.

Legal - congrats on the lie-in and injury-free weekend

Bama - how on earth do you do 32,000 steps? (well done btw!)

Unknown - how nice to get compliments!

There is a lovely Nemo display at the Aquarium Legal. You have to try to find Nemo and his daddy (live ones). We love the aquarium and have a years pass. Not least because at the end is the winning combination of small soft play centre and a bar .

Sorry to hear about DS . Avo on toast is perfectly acceptable. Healthy fats and wholegrains (I do hope it was wholegrain [stern look]).

Sobernow - do you think you might be sensitive to lactose or something? It's not possible to put on 2lb of fat that quickly (well, I suppose I could try ), but I'm wondering if you're intolerant which has caused bloating or something [vague]? And on my bootcamp thingy they are pretty hot on nutrition, and they've put me on much, much higher calories than I've been for years. I spent years living on around 1,000 per day (habit, lots of salads, no wine trying to maintain WW weight loss) and they want me to eat 2,000 and still lose weight!!!! I had to draw the line sightly and am eating 1500 - this is the minimum to stop my metabolism dropping. It is working though, although combined with exercise.

WWW - come back to the fold!! We need you.
