Hello! This is week FIVE of the EIGHTH WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even thought it's Oct
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

Happy Monday everyone!

Marina · 15/10/2007 15:03

but not having a good day bootcamp wise

legalalien · 15/10/2007 15:48

Here I am (and about time too). Lengthy absences largely due to the fact that (i) busy at work; (ii) DH no longer away during the week and hogs computer on weekday evenings; (iii) intended to MNet on Saturday morning but was sidetracked by (ridiculous though this sounds), DS managed to headbutt me while sitting on the sofa at around 10am, and nearly broke my nose (cue, gore, ice, headache.....). Am still not entirely sure it's not broken. he has a very hard head.

Anyway, on bootcamp front, all more or less OK except for renegade bottle of champagne shared with friends.

bamamama - off to NZ for any reason - where are you going? let me know if you need any tips (haven't been home for ages but have plenty of friends there still!)

www/dino - you are very brave going for job interviews. Dino -for the record, I've always done OK at city law firms toting a dodgy looking outdoorsy backpack so agree with anniemac's comment on the other thread about male lawyers not being very focussed on fashion! best of luck!

otherwise commiserations on various life crises / inconveniences / sick children......

cerys · 15/10/2007 17:44

hello, fellow bootcampers, just to let you know I ran the half marathon yesterday and survived . My goal was to do under 3 hours (told you I was slow) and I did 2 hours 49 minutes so was ecstatic. My DH did 1 hour 45 minutes and ran most of it on a twisted ankle , and my brother did a great time too.

We are all a bit tired today and the children are overwrought and tearful so will post more later.

Marina · 15/10/2007 19:44

Well done to you all Cerys

Marina · 15/10/2007 19:45

And ouchies at your poor nose legalalien

arfishy · 15/10/2007 21:05

Oh well done Cerys! [bootcamp hero emoticon]

Oh nasty Legal. How's the nose today? I've just remembered you're from the telco world. I've got to go to big corporate relaunch at Luna Park tonight. We have a new enthusiastic CEO from Canada. I am sulking. A) It's after 5.30 and B) It's compulsory and C) It's going to be catatonically boring and D) I don't care about the sodding company, I'm a contractor.

FFS. If I'm going to actually be out in the evening I'd rather be in a wine bar or restaurant quite frankly. And I'm going to get home just in time for bed as I have to be up at 5 for bootcamp. [strop]

Anyoo. Thanks for asking about results Batters. Yes, my winegut has gone down and people are starting to ask if I've lost weight. I do think ditching wine has probably contributed to this quite a lot.

Erm food yesterday (am supposed to eat 5 times per day to keep my metabolism up)

Poached egg on toast (no butter)
Salad with egg & little bit of ham
Fruit & nut snack bar
Wholemeal roll with philly & cucumber
Chicken stirfry with broccoli, pepper, mangetout and 2 tablespoons rice.

Did creams & suncreams & lots of water. Pedometer low as housebound with DD.

unknownrebelbang · 15/10/2007 21:39

ouch! legalalien.

Well done Cerys.

Just scraped another 1lb off. Have had a weekend off foodwise, without going too silly. Back on track today.

Sunscreen yy
No booze yy
90 mins ex bike rather than walking
Lots of water/weak tea yy
handcream yy
bed early - maintaining a reasonable time.
Eat healthily - Ish. back on the fruit.
Be happy - hmm, stroppy boys and work's a mare. oh hum.

bamaHamaHorror · 16/10/2007 05:20

hello all. Cerys, well done on the run! Legalalien, hope you're recovered.

Bootcamping terribly at the moment. Wedding anniversary yesterday so loads of wine and steak and chocolate. Have been better today and considering 6 weeks off the vino to give my liver a rest. Dh is trying to lose weight so will help him too. Not sure I could manage 6 whole weeks though....

where is everyone else???

hello eveyone,
my home PC is still down so visits are rare and fleeting at the moment. I need to get to an internet cafe to check my personal emails too.

Bootcamping is getting better on the exercise front once again but am struggling with comfort eating between the end of school and dinner time!

Family life is calmer at the moment but in sorting dd out I seem to be losing control of my own life

Will try to look in each day from work.
happy Tuesday everyone

winnie · 16/10/2007 10:13

cerys, well done on the marathon

WideWebWitch · 16/10/2007 10:28

Hello, hello! Sorry, I haven't been here I've been BAAAAAD.

Ouch at headbut, ow, that sounds horrible.
Batters, glad you had a lovely weekend
cerys well done on marathon
well done on 1lb unknownrelbang
Arfy, can't you tell them NO as you're a contractor? Well done on doing bootcamp proper

The weekend was bliss once I got past Friday night - it was at a place where you are supposed to dance on the tables, and there's one sitting for food and you have a flag to wave if you want a waiter and omg it was excrutiating, I HATE those sort of places, enforced office jollity, hen nights galore, it was just ewww, ewww, ewww.

They play very loud music and there are loads of groups at long trestle tables and it's full of hen parties, leaving dos and lots of desperate women in small items of clothing, you get the idea - you just KNOW there will be at least 4 of them crying in the loos at some point "but I loooove him "

And then they say "RIGHT, IN A MINUTE WE WILL TAKE THE TABLECLOTHS OFF AND YOU CAN DANCE ON THE TABLES!!!!" and then, ha ha, "GO WILD BUT NOT TOO WILD BECAUSE OF HEALTH AND SAFETY, ANYONE DANCING TOO CRAZILY WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE" Hilarious. Anyway, I was sober because I was driving and the only way to have survived it would have been to get pissed so I fled at 10.45 and came home and put my pyjamas on.

Ate loads at weekend, drank loads. Never mind. Lovely weather today and I am at home with full childcare for the rest of tihs week except Fridy, when dd will be here so I just bought £20 of magazines and will retire to bed with them shortly. Bliss!

OP posts:
winnie · 16/10/2007 10:51

www, your Friday evening sounds like my idea of a nightmare. Poor you. Glad you enjoyed the rest of the weekend. Am of magazine fest as I have banned myself from buying magazines at the moment

legalalien · 16/10/2007 19:32

arfishy - resisting the urge to spend a bunch of time googling for telco vendors with canadian CEOs, but only just resisting, so you'll have to put me out of my misery some time.

bamamama - if you're going to do six weeks wine free you had better start now, given that it will soon be summer / xmas season and you will undoubtedly want to drink lots of quality nz wine if you're heading to nz (let me know if you want any recommendations)

www - work get together sounds like my idea of hell as well. might be worth making a note of this as a question to ask in interviews (so - is there anything you'd like to ask us about the firm? Yes - what did you do for your last Xmas function?)

thanks to all for sympathy about nose. still sore and jury out as to whether I should do a "safety check" with doctor (time starved legal alien tosses up relative merits of spending hour on doctor visit to avoid bumpy nose vs spending hour looking for trench coat (suggestions still welcomed). surely glasses will cover up bumpy bridge of nose for rest of lifetime.......

unknownrebelbang · 16/10/2007 22:24

DH has fixed the tension on my exercise bike......it's now blardy hard work, lol.

Sunscreen yy
No booze yy
30 mins ex bike rather than walking
Lots of water/weak tea yy
handcream yy
bed early - maintaining a reasonable time.
Eat healthily - Ish. back on the fruit.
Be happy - well DH is at least. They've had Ofsted in today (he's chair of govs). He's saying nothing, but beaming from ear to ear.

arfishy · 17/10/2007 05:54

As it turns out my work launch was excellent. And it would have been morally wrong for me to have turned down the lashings of free wine. I think I stayed within my calorie limit but I'm not sure if I should confess to the evil Victoria. In fact I KNOW I'm not going to confess to [the evil] Victoria. I will invent a nutritious tempeh concoction for my food diary instead.

I MUST do my feet.

Legal - Ericsson now, formerly Optus & Nokia.

WWW - Glad things are looking up

yesterday I had major meltdown about not having achieved anything in my adult life I am too young to have a mid life crisis and quite frankly I haven't got the time Oh woe is me... ha ha

Bootcamp momentum has upped a gear today and I've bought a shiny new notebook for recording EVERYTHING I have found in the past that writing down all that I consume does help.

Onwards & upwards and all that

Batters, money saving is on hold due to stress and boredom

Winnie, you HAVE achieved loads and you're right, you don't have time for a mid life crisis.

Quite Arfy re free wine, rude not to

am at home, in pyjamas, watchnig Phil and Fern (which INEVER do, even when I am here) and feeling reasonably happy. Fat, obv, but happy.

hello microcommunity

sorry haven't been round for a while, have been v mixed with eating, drinking etc but kicked off today with a tub of porridge from Eat so feeling vaguely virtuous.

have been doing plenty of walking

re: foot cream? have made new discovery (well actually given to me by a podiatrist) calmurid - EVEN BETTER THAN FLEXITOL (but pricier - about £12 a biggish tube)

may nip back to Eat and get their smoked mackerel salad for lunch (with beetroot and sweet potato salads)

tortoiseSHELL · 17/10/2007 11:08

Hello all, glad everyone seems to be more positive this week - www, enjoy your week! legalalien, sorry about your nose - ouch! My mum broke her nose (she thinks) coming out of a dog grooming parlour, tripped over and landed straight on it, blood EVERYWHERE! Hope it feels better soon.

Winnie, no midlife crises allowed! xxx to you!

arfishy, evil Victorias should always have the truth hidden from them!

Just come back from ds1's harvest festival - it was SO lovely, I love his school so much! It was his play as well, and he was very sweet, he got 2 laughs! And he spoke nice and clearly and remembered everything he had to do (he was Oliver in Oliver's vegetables). So I was proud Mummy!
