Hello! This is week FIVE of the EIGHTH WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even thought it's Oct
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

Happy Monday everyone!

Hello. Well, it's my birthday today (41, sob!) so the day has started with a bacon sandwich and coffee in bed, from whence I am posting
I have had THE most wonderful presents, the best being 4 prints of the children, printed out on canvas and stretched across frames so I have a collection of four, they're gorgeous. What is a four called? Is there something after triptych? Anyway, I also had a mug with 'we love mummy' written on by the children and some fab books (Jamie Oliver and Nigel Slater's new book) and some Sanctuary stuff, bliss. And we're going out to dinner tonight. DH made a funny card with him in a Police sunglasses ad, v good. I might post some of them on my profile briefly.

Anyway, bootcamp wise I have been really terrible due to stress/boredom fatal combo although lunch yesterday was an enormous salad, albeit one with bacon and avocado in it (I thought of you Batters!) But at least I didn't drink much last night. My skin is terrible though, I think I find it much harder to drink enough water when I'm not at work.

Next week will be a challenge as I will be embarking on a 1hour 45 minutes commute each way. I think loo breaks are going to have to be planned as that's the outer limit of my bladder capacity - apols for tmi!

Sorry for being rubbish at starting new thread, never mind, we're fine here for now, yes?

I'm on holiday for a week now so don't have work/apathy/husband to stop me getting on the computer.

WWW - the picture made me snort - not sure if you are feeling blubbery, murderous, or a combination of both (as I am atm).

I finally reset my Moron, which I bought last year but have neglected since the beginning of this summer. Tis a good step as it motivates me to do mad things like race around the house, jog on the spot, skip without a rope etc etc to get my steps up. I love this weather atm and that motivated me to finally do some 'serious' walking this weekend.

Sobernow - 1000 calories is pretty much starvation mode surely. And are you avoiding carbs? From years of experience, too-low calories and/or low-carb diet means that your weight will vary more wildly if you deviate from it by the slightest iota - and I speak as someone who has lost many many stones (unfortunately the bit I am crap at is keeping it off ). Varying levels in your water and/or glycogen stores can show up in a very short time as several pounds (that's why people who go on liquid carb-free diets can lose a stone or more in a week).

Anyway, I am feeling slightly more positive, and have actually been less spotty these past few weeks - am wondering if this is all helped by taking primose oil, hmmmm....

Oh I LIKE that saying - "I'm younger than Madonna" ha ha ha. I will be buying a first class ticket and doing my make up on the train. Really not looking forward to it at all. Have already bought capacious bag so my heels/trainers can be swapped at will. Looking on the bright side I will be walking more during commute ansd I will have no time to eat! Marvellous!

Moonshine, I am blubbery and fat, was the message in the picture. Although when I have PMT the killer part applies too

Oh I have no time to eat much in the day-time - I am a saint. Trouble is I can make-up for it as soon as I am back at home .(At this point I am inwardly wailing 'I am a whale' a la Homer Simpson).

moonshine · 23/10/2007 09:49

Apologies for stupid hyphenation...

arfishy · 23/10/2007 11:22

LOL sobernow, you don't. I was told to eat little and often and absolutely never to skip breakfast (3 meals and 2 snacks per day). And that my exercise had to include weight training as the muscles will increase your metabolism much more than if you're just burning calories off with a cardio session.

I can post the details on how they worked out the calories I need per day and the point at which my metabolism would slow down if you like?

WWW - Happy Birthday (fab presents!) & Welcome back . I felt all sort of rudderless for a time then. Good luck for the commute-from-hell, although first class will make it an altogether more relaxing experience, I'm sure. Don't the trains have swish loos?

Sobernow, have you tried calculating your bmr - just google it, there are loads of calculators around (they may not be very accurate as they dono't account for frame and muscle but give you a fair idea). 800-1000 at rest calories is a gross under-estimate - one I tried calculated that for a bmr of 1000 calories you need to weigh about 66lbs and be 5ft!

hi all and belated happy birthday to WWW. You are 2 years older than me.

I have just put huge temptation in my path by having lots of fun size chocolate bars in the house to put in a pinata for DS' birthday tomorrow. My baby will be 3 I have already eaten about half a packet and the DCs have eaten some Haribo sweets and are bouncing off the walls...

moonshine · 23/10/2007 18:56

Sobernow - bmi and bmr are different. Your bmi is just about what it should be so it really does sound like you are eating too little . Try this one which, by the way, recommends that you shouldn't go under 1200 per day without medical supervision. But now I am being a bully, so I shall stop. It's just, in my world, 1000 cals a day only sounds like torture (but that is probably why I will never be slim!). To maintain my weight I need to eat about 2,300 cals!!

OK, I'm up at insane-o-clock to go to bootcamp. But I'll post when I get back. Actually, HORRORS I've got to go into the office and it's a 2 hour commute followed by tedious team meeting and then a one on one with annoying new boss about pointless business case. So will post all the maths on calculating everything later, probably in a huff

arfishy · 23/10/2007 20:23

PS Don't worry sobernow - I ate less than that for years. It was the only way I could stop putting on weight. Australia is teaching me the way forward [healthy buggers]

bamaHamaHorror · 24/10/2007 00:27

WWW - happy belated birthday! Glad you had a lovely day.
Sobernow - to put my two penn'th worth in about calorie intake, my dh has about 3 stone to lose and has recently signed up for the guardian eat right programme. We can't believe how much he has to eat, it seems it's about getting the right balance of veggies to high calorie foods and upping the exercise. He's lost a stone in 8 weeks.
Will draw a veil over my bootcamping 'effort' - got rather giddy with too much wine last night so will be donning sack cloth today (that may count as extra sun screen as well.)

WideWebWitch · 24/10/2007 09:30

Morning all. All the amount you need to eat stuff is interestng. I think it safe to assume I need to eat considerably less ha ha

Well yesterday not good, obv

bacon sandwich in bed
chocolates in bed
hotdog and onions in bed
When I finally got up at 4pm after a leisurely bath we went out for dinner where I had belly port and scallops, followed by duck breast on gingered beansprouts
accompanied by Champagne
and then ate some more chocolate when we got in
and drank one glass of wine but then realised I didn't want it so went to bed about 11pm
Wild, me!
