Royal Style - I’m not qualified but you can’t cut me off when there’s a wedding dress to look at...

If someone else has already started one of these please direct me over. I’m not qualified to be the OP of these wonderful threads... but I typed the below and I will be heard Grin Wink

Neither the dress nor the tiara are my personal favourites.

But bloody hell it’s got class.

Granny’s dress and tiara turn it from ‘shameful secret wedding because daddy can’t be seen in public anymore’ to ‘intimate family occasion fully supported and loved by Grandmother, The Queen’. I think it’s a huge showing of support from the Queen to her granddaughter and that’s lovely.

@Gooseysgirl

Honestly I thought it was going to turn out to be in inexpensive M&S number!
Yes, I did too! In fact back in the day when tabbed sleeves were all the rage, M&S did dresses exactly like it. The button detail at the side is something extra, but presumably it’s a run and fell seam with added buttons, hardly earth shattering!
AppleKatie · 28/09/2020 21:52

Shock I’ve just clocked the price of that dress. It beggars belief. What on earth makes that a reasonable price for a admittedly nice if plain dress.

I wonder how Kate makes these pricing decisions ‘m&s trousers for this’ ‘all out for Attenborough’ etc... or do we think money has lost all meaning to her and it doesn’t feature in the decision making process at all?

Maireas · 28/09/2020 22:13

I have no idea how she makes clothing decisions at all - I'm trying to imagine the size of her wardrobe, the choice must be overwhelming!

itswinetime · 28/09/2020 23:57

I don't think Kate thinks about money at all...in fact I'm not sure how much she thinks about what's she's wearing full stop. I think it's more a long the lines of she says she likes x y and z and people go out and buy it in every available colour! Making sure to add the odd bit of high street in there for some 'thrifty Kate' headlines Then the outfits are laid out for her based on what her team think are right for the event. I don't get the feeling a lot of of thought goes into it on Kate's part at all....at least that's how it comes across.

That probably sounds more negative than I mean it too...I think it's probably what a lot of people would do in a similar situation. Like pp said it would be totally overwhelming any other way to me I struggle to pick from a normal sized wardrobe some days!

Royalinsider · 29/09/2020 00:01

Yeah, maybe @itswinetime minus the tours though, the team would think about those looks carefully. Based on interviews, we know that they start calling local designers as soon as the trips are decided.

itswinetime · 29/09/2020 00:25

Yes I think the tours are different they definitely feel a lot more thought most of the time. We all remember 50 shades of green of the Ireland tour Wink.

I'm still not sure how involved Kate gets personally though or if she just looks over the final outfits and says yea or no! The scale of organising something like that I would think it's impossible for her to be involved at every step and that's what her team are for.

AdaColeman · 29/09/2020 00:46

Oh dear! Malta 🇲🇹 is asking for the return of the fossil giant shark’s tooth Sir David gave to George. Sir David found it on a beach when on holiday in Malta 🇲🇹 back in the 1960s, but now Malta 🇲🇹 say he shouldn’t have removed it.

AngelaScandal · 29/09/2020 06:28

Awkward

banivani · 29/09/2020 08:17

@frugalkitty

Well if that's what clothes should really cost, I'll be over here wrapped in a towel! Grin
Exactly, this is why poor people wore rags! Yes I think I’ve said before that i struggle a bit with Kate’s message with clothes - this is a brand claiming to be luxurious sustainable made to last timeless bla bla. But in honesty I think it seems mostly pricey. I can see why the brand was picked for meeting DA ;) but it’s not a consistent message. Dry cleaning is not a good message. The brand doesn’t problematise or explain (word?) dry cleaning on the homepage. It’s so confusing.

It’s too much of a message to seem a coincidence yet not enough to seem thought through!

LadyEloise · 29/09/2020 09:51

Oh @AdaColeman Can you imagine William and Kate telling pleading with George he has to give the tooth back or there will be an international incident.
And George is not for turning the tooth in.GrinGrinGrin

AdaColeman · 29/09/2020 10:10

Well, returning the tooth to Malta would be a lesson in magnanimity and generosity for George, he would learn that the needs of his people must come before his own wishes; a good lesson in Kingship really!

LadyEloise · 29/09/2020 10:15

Try telling that to a seven year old with his "treasure". Smile

AdaColeman · 29/09/2020 10:24

I’m sure his thousand years of “Royal” bloodline will help George to be brave Eloise! Grin

I popped into Gabriela Hurst's shop about a year ago on the hunt for some forest green gloves. I'd never heard of her before and was stunned at how big the shop was.

The clothes were beautiful quality and it felt like the sort of shop you find in somewhere like Vienna, or Rome; tucked away, not flashy, catering to the discreet & wealthy, who look for superb quality things that last. It's sad that that dress may only be worn once.

They didn't have any forest green gloves for me but were very nice to me.

EastonSarah · 29/09/2020 10:51

Gabriela Hurst's brand sounds great (a good choice by Kate for an environmental event):

"Her approach to slow fashion, with an emphasis on high-quality, luxurious fabrics..."

"99% of her textiles are sustainable, reportsFinancial Times, and her commitment to zero waste, upcycling and eco-conscious processes is well-documented. She only uses certified natural fibres and viscose for her designs; utilizes leftover materials like cashmere and silk from previous collections for her accessories; and uses compostable packaging for the brand’s shipments. The company also aims to be plastic-free by 2019. “The two things I ask about every decision are: ‘is this sustainable and environmentally friendly?’ and ‘is this good for the long-term view?"

She was previously worn by Meghan. At the time, I recall that royalists said it was inappropriate for Meghan because the designer is a political activist and was pro Hillary.

Did you find some? That sounds right up my street!

Try paularowan.com
She does lovely leather gloves. The Rebecca come in forest green.

SpaceOP · 29/09/2020 17:35

Hi all, haven't been on here for ages and have name changed but can I just say.... LOVE HER HAIR. Even just those few inches lopped off make all the difference! (my obsession with her hair will give away who I am to old timers! Grin ) A few more inches would make me even happier, but god, I'm loving it.

In same way as I'm hating Meghan's hair getting longer and longer from what I can tell. But I've come to realise I almost always dislike ridiculously long hair! (and may have recently cut mine insanely short...!)

MotherofPearl · 29/09/2020 19:29

@BlingLoving is it you? Have missed you from the thread of late! Also @thisenglishlife.

I know @thisenglishlife and I both prefer Kate's hair darker...

MotherofPearl · 29/09/2020 19:38

Have we seen Kate at the Scouting event today? She's in her usual Scout event type outfit, with a new waistcoat and a new blue Massimo Dutti shirt.

SWFM has been out and about looking chic in black and white. She really is CPM's doppelgänger.

Maireas · 29/09/2020 19:41

Who is SWFM, MotherofPearl?

MotherofPearl · 29/09/2020 19:53

Princess Marie of Denmark, or as she has been (light-heatedly) dubbed on here Single White Female Marie for her uncanny resemblance of Crown Princess Mary.

MotherofPearl · 29/09/2020 19:54

resemblance to? resemblance of? Confused

Maireas · 29/09/2020 19:58

Ah. Kate, Princess Mary, Princess Marie... All soooo similar!
