Royal Style - I’m not qualified but you can’t cut me off when there’s a wedding dress to look at...

If someone else has already started one of these please direct me over. I’m not qualified to be the OP of these wonderful threads... but I typed the below and I will be heard Grin Wink

Neither the dress nor the tiara are my personal favourites.

But bloody hell it’s got class.

Granny’s dress and tiara turn it from ‘shameful secret wedding because daddy can’t be seen in public anymore’ to ‘intimate family occasion fully supported and loved by Grandmother, The Queen’. I think it’s a huge showing of support from the Queen to her granddaughter and that’s lovely.

@MotherofPearl I panicked too 😂 I don’t think I contribute enough of any value to be the OP though, so I’m very glad posters like you have turned up!

Exquisitely chic.

Secret wedding, small guest list, vintage dress - love all of it. So fitting.

Nice work Katie, thank you for new thread! I love that Beatrice chose a vintage dress what an absolutely super idea! She must be tiny to fit into it - back then women wore corsets and had such small waists. The dress is a bit fussy IMO (like all from that designer made for QE - again IMO) but the material is gorgeous and she looks amazing. I agree that the sleeves (from those photos) look a little meh? But they’d want sleeves for a church wedding.

They look so happy! Great choice. I hope we get some more photos, it’s not often you get new fresh photos of such a classic dress!

BBC have a pic of the dress as worn by HMQ, and the two official pics: lovely!

I love the photo of them coming-out under the floral arch! She looks stunning, love the re-wear, am not entirely sold on the add on at the bottom of the dress - it reminds me of my party dresses as a child in the late 70s! but am not sure what else could be done...

Well done to Beatrice for re-purposing granny's dress! I still can't decide whether she or Eugenie is the most beautiful royal bride. Interestingly both made unorthodox choices which proved real winners.

I love the dress and the overall look of the wedding. She looks very happy and very beautiful.

Different colour at the bottom might be due to the way the fabric has aged?
I agree the tiara doesnt quite match. Strathmore rose might have fitted the dress better?

Bea is a legend.

The dress was originally designed for a hooped skirt so that’s what it maybe looks more floaty than it should. But wow, nothing screams “This is my granddaughter” more than lending her your tiara and letting her cut up one of your dresses.

I love Bea’s Norman Hartnell dress, first worn to the premiere of Lawrence of Arabia. You can’t see on the still photos, but on the old newsreel clips you can see how the dress really glitters and sparkles, a fabulous choice by Bea.
I think the bold shape of Queen Mary’s tiara compliments the vertical lines of the appliqué decoration on the dress, and holds the ‘look’ together.
I’m not keen on the sleeves, though I understand why they were added, but I think the false hem has been done very well, (presumably Bea is a little taller than HM) and it doesn’t spoil the lines of the dress.

The flowers are gorgeous, a summer explosion!

( Did Margaret have an affair with Peter O’Toole? Did she meet him the night of the L of A premiere? What did the QMum say? I’ll never know the answers! )

Norman Hartnell certainly knew how to make a girl look glamorous. She looks absolutely lovely and happy. I too hope the bank breaking weddings go out of favour, it has all got a bit silly these days.

love it, very detailed embellishments but a simple shape, loved the sleeves, tiara really worked well and echoed the lines of the dress. the veil looked gorgeous and wispy. very well played Beatrice.

Great work from Kelly and Parvin. Angela Kelly has a real feel for the Queen's style legacy and they've done a beautiful job here.

I love it!

I wonder if she was inspired by Princess Madeleine, who wore one of her mother's old gowns to her wedding after party in 2013?

I think she looks wonderful. The dress was a complete surprise and the tiara is very lovely. Just pleased they found a way to have a very special ceremony in difficult times.

was this the planned dress all along? i know a good seamstress/team could do this kind of work but how much time is involved?
i'd like to know how quickly this event was put together.

I do think she looked beautiful and genuinely happy. Unusual for a royal bride to have a short sleeved wedding dress - I'm sure I read somewhere that they always have long sleeves. I guess with it being a private ceremony the "rules" might have been relaxed. I don't think the tiara is the prettiest I have seen - the one Eugenie wore was much nicer in my opinion - but I think its nice that it was the one that the Queen wore for her own wedding. Given the situation, that support from her grandmother must have meant a lot to Beatrice. I have no sympathy whatsoever for her father but none of that is her fault.

The papers are alleging it was all put together by the couples mothers in three weeks following the governments announcement about relaxing rules on weddings.

I rather suspect the royal family had a bit of advance notice on the rest of the general population though.

A lot of the planning- flowers, dress, ceremony etc... will have been fairly transferable and in place for the original May Date, albeit venue and scale changed a bit.
