If someone else has already started one of these please direct me over. I’m not qualified to be the OP of these wonderful threads... but I typed the below and I will be heard Grin Wink

Neither the dress nor the tiara are my personal favourites.

But bloody hell it’s got class.

Granny’s dress and tiara turn it from ‘shameful secret wedding because daddy can’t be seen in public anymore’ to ‘intimate family occasion fully supported and loved by Grandmother, The Queen’. I think it’s a huge showing of support from the Queen to her granddaughter and that’s lovely.

Queen Victoria would be very amused.
She would pore over the Almanach de Gotha for hours trying to find suitable brides/bridegrooms for her family members & other royals she knew.

I could quite imagine a modern day QV running an aristo version of Match.com Grin

mrscampbellblackagain · 15/09/2020 19:18

I think Kate looked lovely today, very refreshed Wink

The dress is pretty and serves its purpose.

I want to see some new frocks and lordy the economy needs a kick up the bottom so I am all for Kate wearing some new stuff.

Horsemad · 15/09/2020 19:24

Very pretty wedding pics, I was wondering who the bride reminded me of and it was Marie Astrid I was trying to think of!

BlueThistles · 15/09/2020 19:26

it's the most beautiful dress I ever saw, on a Royal bride, absolutely stunning, the style the colour everything about it was just classically beautiful 🌺

Maireas · 15/09/2020 19:31

Tracy Beaker - it does make you wonder if some of these Hapsburgs and Hohenzollerns are still poring over the Almanack de Gotha!! I read that Princess Grace consulted it with her children in mind. An ambition never realised!

MotherofPearl · 15/09/2020 19:33

I know what you mean ginger. Leti and Max seem to do so many engagements a week, and seem much more accessible somehow.

And speaking of Max, here she is at the Prince's Day celebrations wearing a tiered mustard dress that few would look good in. I think she just about pulls it off?

MotherofPearl · 15/09/2020 19:34

Photos would help!

Though saying that @Maireas, Princess Caroline is married to Prince Ernst of Hanover (by all accounts a fairly repellent individual!) who presumably features in the Almanack de Gotha...

Maireas · 15/09/2020 19:48

Indeed @MotherofPearl, he certainly will feature! If only she could have lived to see that, it would have cheered her up after Philippe Junot. Caroline is now a Royal Highness, a step above Serene....

MotherofPearl · 15/09/2020 19:50

Though with his alcohol problems, getting in fights, and being snapped urinating outside a hospital, he doesn't sound like much of a catch!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 15/09/2020 20:04

What a an amazing dress!
Only Max could pull that off & the colour is fabulous!

Wonder if Max would like the Erdem mustard sofa dress ..............slinks away 😂

Oops didn't post the first time.

Would you like it again Grin

pandafunfactory · 15/09/2020 20:13

I don't love love love today's dress on Kate but it's pretty and fresh and she looked both comfortable and also appropriate for the multicultural visits she was doing. Neckline, sleeves, length all not going to offend anybody's sensibilities. That must and dresses like that very useful.

Maireas · 15/09/2020 20:23

Indeed, Tracy, but he is the Prince of Hanover! Love Max and her fabulous dress. That woman loves colour!

UkuleleRose · 15/09/2020 20:25

I don't actually hate this Erdem dress, but I love big, splashy florals and fluffy sleeves. The mustard monstrosity she wore at the Prince's Day celebrations is - well - monstrous.

Gabriella's wedding ensemble is gorgeous, especially the lace. The Adelaide Sapphire tiara is one of my favorites.

AppleKatie · 15/09/2020 21:01

I’m not a fan of Max’s dress, that’s a rare miss for me.

Kate looks good, I wonder if we’ll see more joint appearances because you get better pictures with two people who are allowed to stand next to each other? It makes such a difference, the distant/masks pics are so stilted.

Caroline is now a Royal Highness, a step above Serene....

Yes, but I've said it before and I'll say it again: I think it is a bit odd to prefer being a Royal Highness of a pretend monarchy than a Serene Highness of an actual one.

@MotherofPearl I'm afraid I don't know much about the Bourbon-Parmas except that they are an offshoot of the Spanish RF; I think some of them, or their supporters at least, claim that they should be on the Spanish throne.

MotherofPearl · 15/09/2020 21:19

Oh that is interesting Seneca. Can't imagine them unseating Silver Fox Felipe in a hurry!

Grin at "the mustard monstrosity"!

MotherofPearl · 15/09/2020 21:23

Tracy, you are cheeky tormenting us with your love of that Erdem horror!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 15/09/2020 21:28

GrinGrinGrin

I will be buying a new sofa in the next few months. Wonders if DFS, Ikea or John Lewis do something......

SenecaFallsRedux · 15/09/2020 21:31

Prince Carlos of Bourbon Parma is the Carlist claimant to the throne of Spain. Interestingly, he is a first cousin of King Wax; his mother is Princess Irene of the Netherlands, sister of Beatrix.

SenecaFallsRedux · 15/09/2020 21:33

As for that mustard Erdem, the 1970s are calling; they want their curtains back.

frugalkitty · 15/09/2020 21:49

I'm not sure even the 1970s want to claim that frock Seneca Grin

ChampagneCommunist · 15/09/2020 21:54

@Horsemad - the Dutch don't wear cycle helmets. No need with bikes having right of way and cycle paths everywhere
