Royal Style - I’m not qualified but you can’t cut me off when there’s a wedding dress to look at...

If someone else has already started one of these please direct me over. I’m not qualified to be the OP of these wonderful threads... but I typed the below and I will be heard Grin Wink

Neither the dress nor the tiara are my personal favourites.

But bloody hell it’s got class.

Granny’s dress and tiara turn it from ‘shameful secret wedding because daddy can’t be seen in public anymore’ to ‘intimate family occasion fully supported and loved by Grandmother, The Queen’. I think it’s a huge showing of support from the Queen to her granddaughter and that’s lovely.

☹️ I've missed the documentary, any good? Worth watching on catch up?

AppleKatie · 29/07/2020 23:19

Loving the turtle broach/brooch (I’m having a middle of the night spelling dilemma) and Anne teaching the Queen to use Zoom.

Kate could take some style tips from Camilla who clearly gives very few fucks and wears a comfortable denim dress that doesn’t fit

Kate it something more fitted and less ditsy would be great - streamlined, sleek, plainer colours, less fussy. Letizia is great at this.

thisenglishlife · 30/07/2020 21:57

Here's a few simpler looks that I think work quite well.

Those are good looks on Kate english I agree she can do simple looks her way but I hope after the summer break we see a fresher look.

I know there is print involved still but this is still one of my favourite Kate looks, it's totally appropriate but feels modern I know her boots are bone of contention with some though.

I enjoyed the Anne documentary, but don't expect anything ground breaking it's very much in the style of the Charles documentaries last year or so. A feel good bit of royal fluff but with the added joy of Anne's humour!

I totally agree Carrot.

These are some of my favourite Kate outfits (daywear) which are more streamlined and chic imo.

Fantastic picks @MotherofPearl

She looks beautiful in the Khaki outfit (the hair colour, length and style are perfect), the trousers are a bit too long though. Would love to see her wearing more similar outfits.

The second outfit is good and smart, she's pictured at an airport and so that was worn for a flight. The back of that dress is rather racy as I recall (Mouret dress), one of ther reasons for the jacket!

Love the last outfit (that Gucci dress especially!), minus the pearl nipple/boob pockets!

British Royals are not very good as Chairty patrons (good read):

MotherofPearl · 31/07/2020 09:52

Thanks @thisenglishlife. I like some of those casual looks of hers you posted.

My best of those outfits though are the white Zimmerman and the royal blue one with the black waistband. Both really suit her.

Gooseysgirl · 01/08/2020 22:53

Oh FFS those journos are utter bastards to comment like that about CP Amalia!

justasking111 · 01/08/2020 23:14

Agreed I prefer the streamlined suits on DC, the ditzy prints with funny little collars are too twee for me. I thought Diana cracked the smart suits too.

Spudlet · 03/08/2020 12:51

I definitely prefer the more streamlined looks but I think I do understand the motivation for some of the dresses... if she’s going to be working with children then a sharper look would've a bit out of place, I think. I feel like she’s going for quite a ‘mum’ sort of look, albeit a mum with a huge budget, a summer fete to open and a hairdresser on speed dial, as opposed to a more businesslike look.

However it seems to me that many of her recent dress designers need to listen to Coco Chanel and just remove one thing before they let those things out! There always seems to be a lot going on with them. A but much for my taste.

justasking111 · 03/08/2020 13:15

When working with children I would have thought skinnies and a shirt would be better than a dress, I am crawling on floor with grand kids these days lol

gingercat02 · 04/08/2020 08:18

Not S&B but ex King Jan Carlos has run away from the Spanish courts BBC News - www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-53642283 Poor Felipe thar won't help his popularity (or lack of) with the Spanish people

Horsemad · 04/08/2020 08:44

Hmm, I saw that too, @gingercat02. 🤨

justasking111 · 04/08/2020 09:40

Hasn't he always been a jack the lad though?

Horsemad · 04/08/2020 10:04

Or a Don Juan?

Marlboroughdreams · 04/08/2020 10:09

I find that rather sad, if I'm being honest. To have gone from saving your country from a coup, to what is in effect another exile.

frugalkitty · 04/08/2020 10:39

It's not just the love of ladies that's behind this though, there's allegations of some serious corruption too (again).

AdaColeman · 04/08/2020 12:18

It all started going wrong for Juan Carlos when he had to be rescued from Botswana when injured on an elephant hunt, he was president of Spain's branch of WWF at the time. The huge cost of the trip, and who had paid for it, resulted in enquiries into his finances.
He is rumoured to be in the Dominican Republic now.

paradyning · 04/08/2020 12:40

There's a place in hell reserved for those that hunt elephants. Prison would do though.

gingercat02 · 04/08/2020 13:18

Generally not a pleasant man imho. Adultery, fraud and lots of shady stories over the years. He was only King because Franco choose him as he thought he would stick to his fascist plans and his father was too liberal and was bypassed

AppleKatie · 04/08/2020 14:37

Not a nice story 😟

We need some fluffy fashion to cheer us up. Has the queen gone to Balmoral yet?

Just seen that they're on way there now.,,
