Wedding guest help - yay or nay to this dress?

Dress in question!

I hate printed or vaguely 'occasiony' dresses of any kind and I'd actually wear this dress outside of a wedding setting. I've got a small wedding coming up end of August in a countryside venue and was wondering if this dress would look chic and not too casual.

Planning on wearing with some heeled gold sandals, gold jewellery and a little white crossbody bag.

Far not car

Bubbletrouble43 · 18/07/2020 20:04

I love it. I think as long as your hair jewelry shoes etc is dressy it won't be too casual at all.

EventRider1 · 18/07/2020 20:18

I like it OP. I think with some nice wedges, a fancy belt and a clutch and it will look very elegant.
I can't stand wasting money on clothes that can't be worn more than a handful of times and only to special occasions. Would much rather buy something I could wear everyday and dress it up!

kittensandcoffee · 18/07/2020 20:39

Okay having seen what some of the other ladies are wearing (casual linen and cotton jersey sundresses), I'm actually veering back to the shirt dress. Pink dress would be too much.

I wouldn't wear that to a wedding, no

DameFanny · 18/07/2020 21:00

First dress will dress up a treat - maybe a wide belt? Much more elegant than the pink and the stripey thing someone linked to

DameFanny · 18/07/2020 21:02

Just taken another look. Yes, for posh, take out the drawstring and go with a nice wide leather belt.

midsomermurderess · 18/07/2020 21:06

The stripy one is a horror, what ever the occasion.

kittensandcoffee · 18/07/2020 21:11

Okay, probably the last option I'll post because I'm bored of dress-searching... MaxMara blue shirt dress - nicer than the French Connection?

OP posts:
DameFanny · 18/07/2020 21:18

It certainly looks more expensive, but also less relaxed. Why not try both and see which one suits you better?

hepburnmed · 18/07/2020 21:18

Maxmara - dreadful, sorry. Looks like it’s trying too hard... The pink is great.

fastnfurious · 18/07/2020 21:20

Really not sure about the last option... it reminds me of this...

NameChange84 · 18/07/2020 21:20

I don’t like that either. Just not feeling the shirt dress choice at all.

Ginfordinner · 18/07/2020 21:22

I'm sorry, but I just don't like any of the shirt dresses. The first one looks like a dressing gown, and the last one looks like something you would wear on the school run, and certainly is far too expensive for what it is.

Ginfordinner · 18/07/2020 21:26

Ooh. I like that one fastnfurious

Honeyroar · 18/07/2020 21:26

The first one looks like something you chuck over a bikini on a beach. The pink one is better but still a bit dressing gowny. The last one looks like a bloke’s shirt. Surely you could find something nicer.

DameFanny · 18/07/2020 21:30

You'd need exactly the right size and shape breasts to not fall out of the purple thing

kittensandcoffee · 18/07/2020 21:30

I dunno, I guess I just have really different tastes to most of the ladies on here. The Silkfred dress looks cheap to me (no offence @fastnfurious) - the colour, the polka-dots, the shininess of the material. I think the shirt dresses look elegant and classic and I know I'd get the wear out of them after the wedding. But I'll admit I'm in the minority with my opinion here!

DameFanny · 18/07/2020 21:34

I'm in your corner OP. I love the MaxMara, though I think the FC is sexier - and less to worry about around drunk people and their drinks

DameFanny · 18/07/2020 21:35

But for either you need to try them on and make sure the buttons are in the right place

Idontlikewednesdays · 18/07/2020 21:38

It’s lovely but way too casual for a wedding. Whatever you try and do to jazz it up won’t cover the fact that it’ll be a crumpled mess as soon as you sit down in it.

fastnfurious · 18/07/2020 21:40

No offence taken, How about this? If you scroll down to the reviews a woman wore it to a wedding and she looks stunning www.freepeople.com/uk/shop/love-of-life-midi-dress/?category=midi-dresses&color=266&type=REGULAR&quantity=1

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 18/07/2020 21:41

both the shirt dresses look like house coats!

the pink broderie anglaise is just about weddingy enough for a standard guest.
