Wedding guest help - yay or nay to this dress?

Dress in question!

I hate printed or vaguely 'occasiony' dresses of any kind and I'd actually wear this dress outside of a wedding setting. I've got a small wedding coming up end of August in a countryside venue and was wondering if this dress would look chic and not too casual.

Planning on wearing with some heeled gold sandals, gold jewellery and a little white crossbody bag.

Just to say it's would need a bra and a half Grin

DameFanny · 18/07/2020 21:43

That's polyester secondstar - bit sweaty for August

Disfordarkchocolate · 18/07/2020 21:44

I like it but the possibility of it been crumpled easily would put me off.

Franklyyes · 18/07/2020 21:45

No no no - holiday - yes - wedding omg no

kittensandcoffee · 18/07/2020 21:46

@fastnfurious Definitely a lot more me! And a lot of pinks to choose from (my fave colour). I will add to my list of contenders :)

Lovely dress but l wouldn't wear it for a wedding.

user1493494961 · 18/07/2020 21:49

I would say it's the opposite of elegant. It's very casual but it depends on what type of wedding it is. The colour's a bit 'pyjamas/hospital scrubs'.

SecondStarFromTheRight · 18/07/2020 21:50

@DameFanny Oops! Didn't check the fabric.

Germolenequeen · 18/07/2020 21:50

God no - they look like nightshirts 🙄

kittensandcoffee · 18/07/2020 21:53

The only reason I'm hesitant to go more 'wedding-y' is because everyone seems to be going so casual... the MOB is wearing a dress like [[https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1CN_Je7SWBuNjSszdq6zeSpXaC/Button-Front-Pockets-Mid-Calf-White-Dress-Spaghetti-Strap-Shirred-Back-Band-Cotton-Summer-Dresses-Striped.jpg]] (obvs not in white though).

fastnfurious · 18/07/2020 21:54

You've got to forget the mob and just wear something you love!! ;)

Wynston · 18/07/2020 22:04

Well as you asked.....its a no from me.
I do however like that pink midi dress @fastnfurious found.
And I also liked @Iwanttositundermyownvine found.

maddiemookins16mum · 18/07/2020 22:04

Nope. Not weddingy enough.

maddiemookins16mum · 18/07/2020 22:06

The pink one is far nicer.

Babs709 · 18/07/2020 22:06

Haha I love the MOB dress 😂 probably don’t wear that though. Honestly OP, wear the dress! I hate the second pink one though, it’s too frilly for me!

onedaysoonish · 18/07/2020 22:07

If the MoB is wearing that and other guests are in linen and it's boho etc as you've said then I think the first option is perfect - styled as in the links. I think you have really lovely taste OP!Smile

ExpectingToFly · 18/07/2020 22:09

It's a beautiful dress, you should get it and wear what you said with it! That's the kind of look I'd love to be able to pull off !

camsie · 18/07/2020 22:09

I'm in the too casual camp as well.
It's something I would throw over a bikini to get a casual poolside lunch.

Hardbackwriter · 18/07/2020 22:12

You know the style of the wedding so if it is really casual, then great, you've chosen some lovely casual dresses. A lot of people have a very fixed idea of 'wedding' in their head; I once started a thread asking for advice on a dress for a wedding and explained it would be full of v cool/trendy people and I was scared of looking mumsy (and that I was 30); people kept telling me I must wear a sleeveless, A-line dress from Hobbs 'because all your choices aren't as flattering and they aren't wedding-y' even though I kept explaining that at this sort of wedding the only guest wearing something like that would be the bride's great aunt.

SecondStarFromTheRight · 18/07/2020 22:14

One thing I'd say is that at all the good weddings I've been to, by the end of the night, my shoes are off as they hurt from dancing too much, I've usually left my bag at the table, and my hair is a lot wonkier than it was at the beginning. The only thing that keeps me looking half decent is a nice dress or jumpsuit. This might not apply to you at all but if you lose all the lovely accessories and styling then you'll just be wearing a slightly crumpled shirt dress come the end of the evening.

kittensandcoffee · 18/07/2020 22:18

Thanks all - a lot of mixed opinions to consider, haha! I'm think I'm gonna go with my gut on this one and try both the shirt dresses, and possibly also the Free People dress as I do quite like that one, too (thanks @fastnfurious).

BarbarAnna · 18/07/2020 22:21

I think many people lack imagination when it comes to weddings and wear boring, safe ‘weddingy’ choices. I think your first choice is lovely, with the right styling. You should go with your gut.

BlackSwan · 18/07/2020 22:22

My god. 3 months of lockdown and people have totally forgotten how to dress. Dress is appropriate for a stroll around the park. But nothing more.

CuppaZa · 18/07/2020 22:24

I think it’s lovely, and as long as you dress it up with some nice heels/accessories, it will be fine for a small wedding.
Thanks for posting @kittensandcoffee, I am going to buy it myself as I like it so much Smile
